The ongoing federal investigation in sexual assault cases filed against Weinstein will look more deeply into the manner in which the producer went about in the movie business.

A total of 112 films will be showcased in the upcoming edition. It includes movies like 'Untouchable' and director Chiwetel Ejiofor`s debut 'The Boy Who Harnessed The Wind'.

One of the highlights will be director Ryan White`s 'Ask Dr. Ruth', which will aim to focus on a new angle from the life of the famed sex therapist.

The film fest will be graced by the who`s who of Hollywood, which includes Jake Gyllenhaal, Toni Collette, Julianne Moore, Jim Parsons, Michelle Williams, Jon Hamm, Rose Byrne, and Keira Knightley to name a few.

Sundance Film Festival will be held from January 24, 2019, to February 3, 2019.

On November 25, New York`s Manhattan district attorney dropped a financial crime case against Hollywood producer, in connection with settling his sexual assault victims.

On November 01, an aspiring actor accused the filmmaker of sexually assaulting her when she was 16-year-old.

The former Polish model, identified as Jane Doe, in the court papers, said that in 2002, she met Weinstein for a business lunch and later ended up at his apartment in Soho, where he 'aggressively' demanded sex from her.

Notably, more than 80 women, including actresses Angelina Jolie, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Rose McGowan, have revealed similar stories about the movie mogul.

Some accused him of using physical force to compel them to have sex, while others said he offered roles in movies to actors in exchange of sexual favours and also threatened to ruin their careers if they did not fulfill his demands.

Sundance 2019: Documentary on Harvey Weinstein to premiere at the festival

The highly acclaimed documentary 'Lovesick' which is about two HIV+ singles finding true love in each other through a 'matchmaking' doctor premiered at the JIO MAMI Mumbai Film Festival, Monday.

Directed by Ann S Kim and Priya Giri Desai, the 70-min documentary follows Padma Shri recipient Dr Suniti Solomon, who discovered India's first case of HIV in 1986.

'Lovesick' chronicles her way to help fight the epidemic: by becoming a matchmaker to the spouses for her HIV+ patients.

"I read an article about Dr Suniti and I turned around to Ann and said, 'Don't you think it'll make a great movie?' She had spent time in India studying and travelling and I'm an Indian American who grew up in California and spent all my summers in Bangalore.

"We both had an understanding of this place. We thought let's go to India and connect with the doctor. The worst thing that can happen is we will get a fun trip out of it, the best thing is we can find a great story," Priya said after the premiere.

The duo began filming in 2008 and finished the film in 2013, a post which it took them nearly four years to edit nearly 250 hours of footage.

"We travelled to all over India to find such couples. We went to Gujarat, rural parts of Tamil Nadu and Karnataka. We talked to a dozen of HIV+ people and we found some stories which were part of the earlier cut," the duo said.

The film shows Dr. Solomon and two of her patients? Manu and Karthik ? as they fight secrecy and stigma while searching for love.

"But in our edit when we took advice from people we realised the story was about Dr Suniti, Karthik and Manu. But we spent a lot of time traveling and trying to find these stories," Ann said.

'Lovesick' features in MAMI in the 'Discovering India' section.

Fresh claims of spot-fixing hit international cricket in a documentary released Sunday but the ICC refuted the "assertion" that it does not take corruption in the sport seriously and once again questioned the broadcaster's refusal to share the raw footage.

A report on Al Jazeera channel's website stated that "the evidence, from 2011 and 2012, points to a small group of England players allegedly carrying out spot-fixes in seven matches; Australia players in five matches; Pakistan players in three, with players from other teams carrying out spot-fixes in one match.

"As with the first programme we have and will continue to ask for the cooperation of the broadcaster. We have made repeated efforts to engage with the broadcaster as it can play such a crucial part in the full and thorough investigation it has called for," ICC Anti-Corruption GM Alex Marshall said in a statement.

The ICC has been seeking footage of the sting carried out by the channel since it was first aired earlier this year. However, it claims to have got no cooperation from the channel.

"We do welcome the commitment from the broadcaster to share the files with Interpol and, I hope, other law enforcement agencies who can act upon the information and support us in ridding the sport of these criminals," he added.

The channel's report further claimed that the matches in which fixes were allegedly carried out included an England-India encounter at Lord's Cricket Ground, a South Africa-Australia match in Cape Town and several games during England's series against Pakistan in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

"The files suggest that the suspected fixes were usually carried out by batsmen who agreed to underperform. Some of the world's most famous players were batting when the fixes allegedly occurred. Many of the matches appear to include multiple fixes, making a total of 26 fixes in the 15 matches," said the report.

The channel claimed that its dossier includes photographs of Mumbai-born Dubai based alleged match-fixer Aneel Munawar and his associates hovering near, and purportedly talking to, international cricket players such as Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and Umar Akmal during the T20 World Cup in Sri Lanka in 2012.

But the channel made it clear that there is no suggestion that these players were involved in any wrongdoing.

"As you would expect we will again take the contents of the programme and any allegations it may make seriously and will investigate fully.

However, I must refute the assertion that cricket does not take the issue of corruption seriously, we have more resources than ever before working to rid our sport of corruption," Marshall said.

"The investigation into these allegations has already commenced and will run alongside a number of other live unrelated investigations.

When considering the claims, we will work with professional independent betting analysts."

Fresh spot-fixing claims in documentary; ICC demands footage again

Two adrenaline junkies setting off to row across the Atlantic were ready for a challenge. But when disaster struck they got a glimpse of the horrors faced by people who take to the sea out of desperation rather than a thirst for adventure.

Their story is told in "Beyond the Raging Sea", a documentary presented at the Cannes Film Festival about the doomed attempt by mountaineer Omar Samra and professional triathlete Omar Nour, both Egyptians, to complete the 3,000-mile (4,800 km) Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge.

After their rowing boat is flipped over by giant waves, the men are left with nothing but a malfunctioning inflatable lifeboat and no way of knowing that their location device had failed, making it unlikely they would be found in the middle of the ocean.

The film uses footage filmed by the two men and by their eventual rescuers - the crew of a passing cargo ship. Produced in association with the U.N. High Commission for Refugees, it compares the pair`s adventure with the risks taken by hundreds of thousands of migrants every year.

"For 13 hours we were in their shoes," Samra told Reuters in an interview. "We only experienced a fraction of what refugees go through and these things happen on a weekly basis."

Director Marco Orsini hopes the film will bring public attention back to the refugee crisis in the Mediterranean, by getting the audience to root for the two Omars` survival and then showing news footage of migrant rescues.

"After time, after so much footage of dead bodies washing up on the shores ... you just become desensitized to the whole issue," he said.

"I realise that this film can have an impact on people, on how they view the plight of refugees, and that’s what it’s all about.”

The Cannes Film Festival runs to May 19.

Wearing a floral dress and no hat, Queen Elizabeth strolls in dappled sunlight through the garden at Buckingham Palace with an old acquaintance, making quips and even mentioning the prospect of her own demise in a light-hearted way.

The scene, filmed last summer for a documentary due to be broadcast in Britain next week, offers an unusually informal glimpse of the 91-year-old monarch, who has given very little away of her inner self during her 66-year reign.

She is seen walking and chatting with David Attenborough, also 91, a much-loved naturalist and broadcaster known for lavish series like "Planet Earth" and "Blue Planet".

The pair discuss a conservation project to create a network of native forests across all 53 Commonwealth countries -- the subject of the new documentary -- and muse about how there might be many new trees in Buckingham Palace garden in 50 years.

"Might easily be, yes," the queen says. Then, after a pause, she adds with a smile: "I won't be here though".

Attenborough chuckles but does not dwell on the remark, instead commenting on a nearby sundial positioned in the shade of a tree, rendering it useless.

"Isn't it good, yes," the queen says, before flashing a wide grin at a person standing off camera. "Had we thought of that, that it was planted in the shade?" she asks with a chuckle, adding: "It wasn't in the shade originally, I'm sure."

The queen then suggests the sundial could be moved, to which Attenborough responds that it depends whether she wishes to know the time or not.

The documentary, "The Queen's Green Planet", is scheduled for broadcast on ITV on Monday. It also features other members of the royal family as well as the actress and campaigner Angelina Jolie, who has taken part in the environmental project and is shown describing the queen as "a lovely lady".

Sounds like President Trump

In a separate excerpt from the queen's walk with Attenborough, released by ITV ahead of broadcast, the quiet of the palace garden is broken by the noise of a helicopter hovering overhead.

"Why do they always go round and round when you want to talk?" the queen asks, adding: "Sounds like President Trump, or President Obama", apparently referring to the aircraft used by the US&nbsppresidents during visits to her.

During another light-hearted moment, the monarch spots a sapling bent over at an alarming angle, remarking: "Somebody sat on it I think, at the garden party".

The queen and Attenborough have known each other for many years as the broadcaster, who has been making nature programmes since the 1950s and continues to draw millions of viewers with every new one, has received a series of royal honours over the years.

The two nonagenarians appear relaxed together, with little of the formality and rigid deference often seen in people addressing the monarch.

The pair look at trees planted in the palace garden to mark the birth of the queen's children, and Attenborough is seen squatting down to read the plaques as they try and work out which tree corresponds to which prince or princess.

The queen, who routinely receives gifts from visitors from every corner of the planet, comments that the garden has benefitted from many gifts of roses and other plants.

"You know, I've been quite difficult to give presents to, so," she says, drawing laughter from Attenborough. "Of course they've said 'Oh well, let's give her a plant ... or a tree or something.' Which is very nice to have."

Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has agreed to release the impending documentary on Nobel laureate Amartya Sen titled "The Argumentative Indian".

The documentary was in the middle of a controversy last year in July when Suman Ghosh, National Award-winning director refused to abide by CBFC Kolkata diktat of beeping four words in the film -- cow, Gujarat, Hindutva and Hindu.

Ghosh announced Friday that the CBFC agreed to the release of his documentary in its entirety, including the four words that the board's regional office had objected to earlier.

Ghosh told PTI in Kolkata: "CBFC chairman Prasoon Joshi watched 'The Argumentative Indian' in Mumbai yesterday along with other board members and gave his consent to the words. After seeing the film yesterday, Joshi held a discussion with me and said 'the film can be released without any cuts."

The documentary is essentially an hour long and is shot in two parts in 2002 and 2017 -- has Sen talking about the social choice theory, development economics, philosophy and the rise of right-wing nationalism across the world, including India.

Ghosh added in his statement, "I am happy that the CBFC respects the freedom of expression in arts. Joshi told me he got to learn a lot about the Nobel laureate through my documentary."

He is now hoping to get a written communication on the matter from the board.

Sources in CBFC Kolkata, however, spoke on the issue and said that the matter is currently being handled by the chairman and that the regional office had no say in the matter now.

Actor-producer Jackky Bhagnani calls the movie, India's first Hindi sci-fi film which deals with the sensitive topic of rising pollution. In a previous media interaction, he said, "Carbon is first Hindi sci-fi film, I don't know if you will like the film or not when you watch it. But you won't be able to say that this movie was an imitation of any Hollywood film. This is our own version."

Apart from Jackky, Prachi can be seen in a lead role. Talking about her experience, she said, "The first time when the director and writer met me I didn't even take a second to think about it. I was actually blown by the idea, just as much as everyone else is going to be when they watch the trailer.

She also spoke about the subject as: "It is sci-fi but not in the entertainment space. We aren't going to show you a cool world about fictional characters or superheroes. It isn't anything of that sort. Carbon is about you and me in the real world and what we could face in 2067."

The actors feel that the movie is well-timed and that it is made to make people aware and responsible and not with a sensibility to get awards.

Carbon: India's first Hindi sci-fi short film

To many of his patients he was the saviour who rescued them from the misery of unbearable pain, but to others he was an amoral drug dealer who played fast and loose with people's lives.

The story of William Hurwitz's imprisonment for excessively prescribing painkillers is indicative of America's burgeoning opioid crisis, and the dilemma it presents doctors seeking to manage pain responsibly.

"Dr Feelgood," which premiered last week at the Los Angeles Film Festival, examines what has been described as the worst drug crisis in US history through the lens of Hurwitz's trial in 2004 for trafficking.

"He's a demon -- what he's done to my family and the other families," said Paul Nye, whose wife overdosed on the potent opioid OxyContin and died.

"He gave her 200 OxyContin pills the first time she saw him. Two weeks later he doubled that, two weeks later something like four times that," adds Nye, whose his wife had been suffering from back pain.

The documentary follows the physician's run-ins with the authorities, his conviction in 2004, his appeal and the retrial which saw his 25-year prison sentence reduced to four.

It also lays bare the quandary for doctors duty-bound to relieve pain and yet required by law to take into account the possible ill effects of over-prescribing or supplying drugs to the wrong people.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, opioids -- including prescription pain relievers and heroin -- killed more than 28,000 people in the US in 2014, more than in any other year on record.

Death rates are higher than those from road accidents or AIDS at its peak, and the crisis has prompted urgent calls for action.

Personal responsibility

The epidemic has been growing gradually since the 1990s but really took a firm foothold in the public consciousness in April when the rock musician Prince died of an overdose.

In the late 1990s and early 2000s, Hurwitz was one of America's pre-eminent specialists in pain and its treatment with pharmaceuticals.

He came to the notice of the Virginia Board of Medicine, who suspended his license on several occasions, and eventually the police, when two patients died and it became clear his pills were reaching the black market.

Yet Hurwitz was a polarizing figure who was as much lauded as condemned.

"I was bedridden -- I was wearing diapers," says Molly Shaw, one of the physician's patients who was suffering chronic pain due to a condition of the nervous system.

Tears streaming down her cheeks, Shaw described her pain as worse than childbirth, but says Hurwitz "really gave me my life back".

"The thrust of the film is to say it's not as simple as 'pharmaceutical companies and doctors created a nation of addicts'," first-time director Eve Marson told AFP.

The 34-year-old says she was made aware of America's opioid problem by friends who were medics and every day saw people addicted to pills.

"If you're a doctor, here are these pills that are incredibly effective at treating pain and people come to you," Marson says.

Suicides

"One American in three suffers from chronic pain and you want to help them relieve this pain -- that's why you became a doctor.

"And at the same time, how can you do this while being sensitive to not creating addiction?"

Hurwitz has always maintained he acted in good faith, saying it was not his job to check up on who was using their medication responsibly and who was dealing.

He admits to having possibly solved this dilemma "too easily, choosing to trust the patients" who sometimes abused the medication or sold their pills on the black market.

The doctor told AFP the crusade against him and other doctors had done nothing to stem the surge of opioid overdoses, or the growth of the black market.

Hurwitz believes that while overdoses are given many column inches, suicides linked to untreated chronic severe pain are largely ignored.

Other patients are refused painkillers, he says, and turn to the black market for drugs sometimes cut with substances like fentanyl, which is up to 50 times more potent than heroin.

In an attempt to curb the epidemic, health authorities have issued guidelines to reduce the duration of prescriptions and try to reduce the number of pills in circulation.

Marson believes better sharing of patient information is also key, as it would stop some addicts and dealers going "shopping from one doctor to the other" to amass stockpiles of pills.
