A Boeing 767 chartered by Delta was forced to make an emergency stop on Saturday as it was taking off from Dakar for New York,&nbsp;Senegal's air transport ministry announced.

"The plane, in its take-off phase, carried out an acceleration manouevre followed by an emergency stop because of a technical incident," said the ministry statement.

The pilot managed to stop the plane safely, none of the 213 passengers had been hurt and the flight had been postponed, it added. The incident happened at around 11:30 am (1130 GMT).

Senegal's national aviation security agency the BEA would investigate what had happened, said the ministry.

This incident came after a series of safety scares involving Boeing aircraft, including another one in&nbsp;Senegal, also at Dakar international airport.

In May, a Boeing 737/300 came off the runway there during takeoff, injuring 11 people and shutting the hub for hours.

The plane, run by Air&nbsp;Senegal, had been chartered from privately owned Transair, the airport management company LAS said at the time.

<h2>Passengers claimed they begged for food on Delta flight to New York&nbsp;</h2>

“About 5 hours into our trip across the Atlantic Ocean, the pilot made an unexpected, sharp right turn and announced that the plane was being diverted due to a mechanical issue,” passenger Nana Asante-Smith wrote on Facebook.&nbsp;

Nana claimed that after they landed on Terceira Island, she realised how there was a “reckless disregard for human life and well-being.” The passengers stepped out of the plane and were subsequently taken to shuttle buses that took them to the airport.

When the passengers spoke to the airport representatives, they were told they would be given food to eat at around 11 am or 12 pm. However, an airport representative later said Delta had decided that no food would be given as the passengers had eaten in advance.

“In response to this befuddling update, a gentleman asked about complimentary water bottles. One of the airport representatives, a woman wearing a white shirt and wearing glasses, told the gentleman that we could drink water from the bathroom faucets. After some time and complaints, a small cafe in the corner opened and people were able to purchase food if they had a credit card,” wrote Nana.

Ghanian rapper Sakordie was also onboard the Delta flight to New York. He described his experience on X (formerly Twitter). “It was unfortunate but I know these things happen so I wasn’t trippin' even though they communicated poorly and didn’t have the courtesy to update us on exactly what was happening… sat at the airport for about 6 hours and from complaints from passengers, this isn’t new with that airline, especially from this part of the world ( Africa ) they keep sending these weak old flights to pick us up knowing very well they are not safe but still risk lives .”

“We almost landed on the ocean but thank God we touched that island safe. No compensation nothing and our bags still on the island.”

'We were going to hear a big thud': Passenger Speaking to the news agency Associated Press, passenger Chris Skotarczak said that if he had not seen the aircraft's shadow without the nose wheel down and been told to brace for landing, he would have thought nothing was wrong. “The pilot told us, we’re going to land, we’re going to hear a big thud and we’re going to hear a lot of grinding,” Skotarczak said and highlighted the emergency landing was smoother than a regular landing. Zahornacky, a former airline pilot, told the Associated Press that such landing gear failures are "very rare" and that commercial airlines in the United States have a “fantastic” record of maintaining planes.
