The Indira Gandhi International Airport has begun special procedures to manage low visibility and keep the operations running smoothly. 
&ldquo;Low visibility procedures are in progress at Delhi airport. All flight operations are presently normal. Passengers are requested to contact the airline concerned for updated flight information," it said.&nbsp;
Flight tracking platforms showed over that 160 flights were delayed and three cancelled.
There was an average delay of nearly 30 minutes for departures and arrivals in Delhi.&nbsp;
Airlines such as Indigo, SpiceJet, and Air India have issued advisories, asking the guests to remain informed about the flight updates and timings and start early as slow traffic might delay the movement posed by the winter weather.&nbsp;

Although meteorologists suggest the rain may settle dust and pollutant particles, leading to improved AQI levels, the authorities persist in continuing adherence to safeguard the public health.&nbsp;

In the capital, the water of the Yamuna River has come onto the roads breaking all-time records. Yamuna water level breached the danger marks of 205.33m and reached 208.48m on Thursday morning. The water level is expected to rise even further, and hence, the Delhi NCR administrations have announced closure of schools.&nbsp;

The district administration of Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh also announced holidays in all schools till July 15. Amid the heavy rainfall and water logging issues, the District Magistrate has also issued an advisory for the local people.

Before the Noida school closure, the Delhi government announced the closure of schools, colleges and universities. After a meeting of the Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), the decision was announced.&nbsp;

As per the orders, except for all government offices providing essential services, staff of all other government offices will work from home till Sunday and employees of private offices are also advised to work from home till Sunday.&nbsp;

Delhi Traffic Police urged commuters to avoid the Ring Road stretch between Monastery and ISBT, Kashmere Gate, saying the traffic has been affected due to the overflowing Yamuna River. It also asked commuters to avoid the Ring Road stretch near the IP flyover from Rajghat to Nizamuddin carriageway as overflowing sewer water has affected the traffic.

On Thursday (May 4), the maximum and minimum temperatures might&nbsp;vary between 17 degrees and 32 degrees Celsius respectively. The air quality also deteriorated from satisfactory to moderate. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) said the rain activity is likely to reduce, said a TOI report.

The weather department said an AQI between zero and 50 is considered to be "good", 51 and 100 "satisfactory", 101 and 200 "moderate", 201 and 300 "poor", 301 and 400 "very poor", and 401 and 500 as "severe".

IMD weather scientist Kuldeep Srivastav said, "There is a strong western disturbance trough over the western Himalayas and an cyclonic circulation over north-east Rajasthan and adjoining southern Haryana. This weather system covers entire Delhi-NCR, so the region saw consistent rain. The activity will pacify and Thursday may see drizzle or very light rain at one&nbsp;or two places, though the sky will remain unclear. The maximum temperature will rise."

Delhi on Wednesday&nbsp;witnessed bright clear skies for some time after a wet start to the week, although later in the evening there was widespread heavy rainfall throughout the capital with its base station Safdarjung recording 20.99mm in nine hours, the highest this year, surpassing January 30, 2023 record.&nbsp;

So far, the city has recorded 36.9mm of rain in the first three days of May, exceeding the month's usual rainfall.&nbsp;

On Wednesday, several areas&nbsp;like Palam recorded 11.8mm, Lodhi Road recorded 24.6mm, Ridge area recorded 14.6mm, Ayangar recorded 13.8mm, Mayur Vihar recorded 8mm and Pitampura recorded 55.5mm of rainfall respectively.&nbsp;

Lajpat Nagar, Sarai Kale Khan, Mehrauli Badarpur Road, Pul Prahladpur underpass and Zakhir witnessed waterlogging&nbsp;on roads.

The maximum temperature recorded was 30.6 degrees Celsius, nine notches below the usual, while the minimum temperature was clocked at 20.1 degrees Celsius, five notches below normal.&nbsp;

The wet and stormy weather caused flights from Mumbai to be diverted to Ahmedabad.&nbsp;

Indian capital New Delhi recorded its highest rainfall in nearly 122 years. Indian capital received some 88.2 millimeters of rain in the first month of the year. This is the highest rainfall in the capital recorded since 1901.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the Ayanagar weather station recorded 99.2 mm rainfall, the maximum in the city, during the 24-hour period ending at 8.30 am on Thursday. The Palam and Ridge weather stations gauged 93.6 mm and 84.6 mm precipitation respectively.

The Safdarjung observatory, which provides representative figures for the city, recorded 68 mm rainfall, according to the IMD.

Rainfall recorded below 15 mm is considered light, between 15 and 64.5 mm is moderate and above 64.5 mm is heavy.

Vehicles moved bumper to bumper during the morning rush hours, as the downpour led to heavy waterlogging at key road stretches.

The Delhi Traffic Police reported an incident of a tree being uprooted near the high court, which led to traffic snarls. The Raja Garden and Mayapuri flyovers also witnessed heavy waterlogging.

The incessant rains damaged a drain near the Khaira village T-point on the Dhansa road, where metro construction work is going on, the traffic police said.

The affected 200-metre stretch of the road has been closed for traffic. 
 
Pictures and videos of vehicles and people wading through waist-deep water were widely shared on social media platforms.

The downpour also brought down the rain deficiency in the national capital.

Till Wednesday evening, the Safdarjung observatory had recorded 72 per cent less rainfall than normal in August, the lowest in 10 years, according to the IMD. The shortage reduced to 14 per cent by Thursday morning.

Overall, Delhi has recorded seven per cent more rains than normal in the monsoon season so far.

Kuldeep Srivastava, the head of the IMD's regional forecasting centre, said the city witnessed "continuous rains overnight" and more rainfall is expected during the day.

"The axis of monsoon remains close to Delhi-NCR. Also, there is a cyclonic circulation over southwest Uttar Pradesh. Southwesterly winds from the Arabian Sea and easterly winds from the Bay of Bengal also fed moisture," he said.

Light rains will continue over the next two to three days, Srivastava said.
