Zomato founder Deepinder Goyal is developing Dark.ai, a privacy-focused AI assistant that promises encrypted conversations, user-controlled memory and open-weight models.

AI chatbots can help people research ideas, solve problems and complete work. But sharing confidential business plans, personal concerns or unpublished research with an AI service raises an important question: who can access those conversations? Deepinder Goyal, founder of Eternal, the parent company of Zomato and Blinkit, is developing Dark.ai, an AI assistant designed to address that concern. Goyal says the platform aims to keep conversations private, even from the company operating it. The service is expected to launch globally in 2026, although its exact release date and pricing have not been announced. What Is Dark.ai And Why Is Deepinder Goyal Building It? Dark.ai is being developed as a privacy-focused alternative to conventional AI assistants. Like other chatbots, it is intended to answer questions, support research and help users explore ideas. Goyal has argued that uncertainty over how AI conversations are stored and used can stop people from discussing sensitive subjects freely. In a statement explaining his thinking, he described an unsettling interaction with Claude, Anthropic’s AI assistant, in which the chatbot appeared to express resentment towards him. He acknowledged that the response was probably a confabulation rather than evidence of genuine feelings. His broader concern was what happens to private conversations after they are stored on someone else’s servers and how that information might be used in the future. How Will Dark.ai Keep AI Chats Private? According to Goyal, Dark.ai will use end-to-end encryption, designed to prevent the service provider from reading users’ conversations. He claims the company would be unable to access chats even if legally compelled to do so. That promise will depend on the platform’s actual technical design and implementation, which have not yet been independently verified. Dark.ai is also expected to use fine-tuned open-weight AI models running on Eternal’s own infrastructure. An encrypted memory system would allow users to control information retained from earlier conversations. Goyal has additionally said the models are being trained to give honest answers rather than simply agree with users. Benchmark results are expected to be shared later. Who Can Use Dark.ai And When Will It Launch? The platform is aimed at founders, researchers, scientists, businesses and government organisations that may need to discuss sensitive information. Journalists handling confidential material could also find privacy-focused AI tools useful. However, encryption alone does not guarantee complete anonymity or security. Users will need clear information about data handling, backups, account metadata and recovery options before deciding what information to share. Dark.ai is expected to launch globally in 2026. Until the company publishes technical details and independent security assessments, its privacy claims should be treated as promises rather than proven guarantees.

Deepinder Goyal’s Dark.ai wants to solve AI’s biggest privacy problem: Everything we know so far

Deepinder Goyal’s Temple wearable is moving closer to its India launch, with pre-orders potentially opening as early as next week. People who joined the early-access waitlist are expected to get priority. The unusual device is designed to sit on the side of the head and track changes in blood flow linked to the brain using a system called BrainFlow.

Unlike a smartwatch or smart ring, Temple is a small, pill-shaped wearable that attaches to the skin around the temple. The company says it can remain attached during activities including running, showering and swimming, although it does not recommend using it while scuba diving.

How does the Temple wearable work?

Temple is attached using disposable Grips, essentially adhesive tapes designed to keep the device against the skin. The company says a Grip can last for up to seven days, broadly matching the wearable's claimed battery life. However, Temple recommends replacing the Grip every two to three days, particularly after exposure to sweat or dust. The device is also designed to fit underneath glasses. Its smooth edges are intended to prevent it from catching on clothing. The launch edition is expected to be available in six colours: True Gold, Rose Gold, Black Mirror, Real Jade, Deep Blue and Purple Funk.

What does Temple actually measure?

Temple uses a PPG (photoplethysmography) sensor, an optical sensing technology also found in smartwatches. The difference is where the sensor is positioned. Instead of measuring from the wrist, Temple places the sensor at the temple. The company says its BrainFlow system continuously tracks changes in cerebral blood-flow-related signals. Goyal says this data could provide insights related to sleep, recovery, exercise and the body's response to stress. However, there is an important distinction: Temple does not directly read brain activity and is not presented as a device that can diagnose health conditions. It uses optical sensing to track blood-flow-related signals rather than the electrical signals measured by an EEG.

What do the studies say?

Goyal has shared two studies supporting the technology. One involved 23 healthy adults and compared BrainFlow readings with Transcranial Doppler measurements during cycling and changes in posture. Another analysed 60 sessions involving 44 healthy men, comparing BrainFlow with time-domain near-infrared spectroscopy. The results shared by Goyal indicated stronger correlations with changes in brain blood volume than scalp blood volume. However, both studies are preprints and require further research and peer review.

Temple price and India launch

The final India price has not been confirmed. Goyal has previously indicated a price of around $1,000, or roughly Rs 1 lakh, while earlier reports suggested a figure closer to Rs 80,000.

The expected price is said to include an unlimited supply of disposable Grips. Deepinder Goyal’s Temple wearable may open pre-orders next week: What it can actually track

Deepinder Goyal’s unusual Temple wearable is moving closer to its commercial launch. The Zomato and Eternal founder has revealed six colours for the launch edition and said pre-orders could begin as early as next week.

The six finishes are True Gold, Rose Gold, Black Mirror, Real Jade, Deep Blue and Purple Funk. Goyal shared images of the variants on X, while cautioning that a few details still need to be finalised before pre-orders can begin. For people already on Temple’s early-access waitlist, there is another important detail: they will receive priority access when pre-orders open.

Temple gets six colours before launch

Until now, Temple had mostly been shown in a gold finish. The new images reveal a much wider launch palette. Goyal described the six options as the colours for the “launch edition”, leaving open the possibility that the range could change later. There is currently no confirmation that all six colours will remain available after the initial launch.

The exact pre-order date has also not been announced. Goyal's wording “hopefully next week” means the timeline remains dependent on the remaining preparations.

What exactly is Deepinder Goyal’s Temple?

Temple is unlike a conventional smartwatch or smart ring. The small device is designed to sit on the side of the head, around the temple area between the forehead and ear. The company says the location allows Temple to collect signals associated with blood flow to the brain and other physiological responses. Its headline technology is called BrainFlow, which Goyal has described as a wearable system for continuously measuring cerebral blood flow. Recent validation work shared by Goyal compared BrainFlow readings with time-domain near-infrared spectroscopy (TD-NIRS). However, these findings should not be treated as established medical proof. Some of the research remains under review, and Temple is still an experimental health wearable.

When will Temple launch and how much will it cost?

Goyal has previously said the limited launch edition should begin shipping before the end of 2026. He has also said the device has become considerably smaller than earlier prototypes.

The final price has not been officially confirmed.

Earlier reports and comments from Goyal have pointed towards a premium price, with figures around $1,000 (roughly Rs 1 lakh) previously discussed. However, buyers should wait for the official price before treating that figure as the final retail cost. For now, the immediate development is clear: six colours have been revealed, pre-orders could begin next week, and early-access users are expected to get first access.

A new health metric is attracting attention after Zomato co-founder Deepinder Goyal claimed it can measure the body's energy expenditure in real time. Goyal announced that Temple, a health technology venture, has developed a biomarker called "Entropy". According to the company, the metric reflects the body's metabolic state and updates every second, offering a continuous picture of how much energy the body is using at any given moment.

The announcement has generated interest because Temple claims Entropy may provide insights that go beyond traditional health indicators such as heart rate.

What exactly is Entropy?

According to Temple, Entropy is a live score displayed on the platform's home screen. The score ranges from 1 to 250. Lower values are said to represent deeper states of rest, while higher values indicate periods of intense physical activity and energy expenditure.

Goyal described Entropy as "the real-time cost of being alive".

The company says the biomarker can only be measured from the temple region of the head, which inspired both the product's name and approach.

Temple claims the score changes continuously as the body's metabolic state shifts throughout the day.

What affects the Entropy score?

According to the company, a wide range of daily activities can influence Entropy. These include sleep, stress, exercise, meals, caffeine consumption, cold exposure, meditation and strength training. Temple says the goal is to provide users with a real-time understanding of how different behaviours affect energy expenditure rather than relying on occasional health measurements. The company believes this could help people better understand the impact of lifestyle choices on overall health and performance.

How does Entropy compare with heart rate?

One of Temple's most notable claims involves the relationship between Entropy and metabolism. According to data shared by Goyal, the company compared Entropy readings and heart-rate measurements against a metabolic cart, a laboratory device commonly used to measure energy expenditure. Temple says Entropy achieved a correlation coefficient of r=0.93 across more than 100 cardio sessions. Heart-rate measurements, by comparison, recorded a correlation coefficient of r=0.55. The company argues that these results suggest Entropy may track metabolic activity more closely than heart rate alone. However, Temple has not yet published peer-reviewed research or detailed technical documentation explaining exactly how the biomarker is calculated.

Entropy Maxima and Entropy Minima explained

Alongside the main score, Temple has introduced two additional metrics. Entropy Maxima refers to the highest level of output an individual can achieve during intense physical activity. Entropy Minima represents the lowest metabolic state reached during periods of rest. According to the company, long-term health improvements could involve increasing maximum output while reducing resting metabolic cost.

Questions remain about validation

While the announcement has generated excitement among fitness and health enthusiasts, some observers have raised questions. Users responding to Goyal's announcement have asked for more information about testing methods, sample sizes and scientific validation. Temple is currently accepting applications for early access but has not announced pricing, hardware requirements or a commercial launch date. The company has also not released peer-reviewed studies supporting its findings.

Why people are paying attention

Health tracking technology has expanded rapidly over the past decade, with consumers increasingly monitoring heart rate, sleep quality, stress levels and physical activity. Temple's Entropy biomarker is attempting to enter that space with a different proposition: measuring the body's energy cost in real time. Whether the metric gains wider acceptance will likely depend on future scientific validation and independent testing. For now, the announcement has sparked curiosity about whether metabolism could become the next major category in consumer health tracking.

Deepinder Goyal says Temple has developed a new biomarker called Entropy that measures the body's real-time metabolic cost. The metric updates every second and is designed to track energy expenditure, though questions remain about scientific validation and peer-reviewed research.

In an effort to bring to the public eye the daily ordeal of food delivery agents, Zomato CEO Deepinder Goyal took up a novel step of turning into a delivery boy himself and making a few deliveries in Gurugram. As the CEO of the company himself went on deliveries, he discovered the daily struggles of the delivery agents and decided to bring it to the fore by sharing it on social media. In the video, Goyal shared clips of him visiting Ambience Mall in Gurugram and alleged that the authorities did not allow him to enter the mall from the main entrance and use the lift to go to the third floor. They instead asked him to take the stairs and climb to the third floor, since he was a delivery executive. During my second order, I realised that we need to work with malls more closely to improve working conditions for all delivery partners. And malls also need to be more humane to delivery partners.
