Won't stop developing AI, responds OpenAI to Italian ban on ChatGPT

India has experienced a major epidemiological shift over the last few decades. The most common cause of mortality in India is now cardiovascular disease (CVD), surpassing cancer, as per the World Health Organisation (WHO). Despite the considerably varying frequency of risk factors across regions, CVD is the main cause of death in all of India.

With CVD accounting for virtually every fourth death by 2030, India is predicted to have the unfortunate distinction of having the most cardiac mortality worldwide, according to renowned cardiologist Dr C N Manjunath who made the statement while addressing the 'HAL Medicon 2022.'

"Heart issues are growing among the young and middle-aged population and this is alarming," he said.

His statements are further corroborated by a study published in the National Centre for Biotechnology Information titled, ‘Cardiovascular disease in India: A 360 degree overview,’ which throws light on how Indians will be affected by CVD ten years sooner than their western counterparts.

WION spoke to Dr Vineet Bhatia, MD, DM, DNB (Cardiology), MNAMS, FESC, Associate Director, Cardiac sciences, Max Hospital, Patparganj, New Delhi, to comprehend young India's cardiovascular health and the reasons behind an increase in heart attacks.

Here are the excerpts.

Q. Firstly, What is the difference between a heart attack and a cardiac arrest?

A. A heart attack also known as Myocardial Infarction occurs when one of the blood vessels (called coronary artery in medical terms) carrying blood to the heart muscle gets suddenly blocked completely.

As we age, the blood vessels on their inner side develop deposits called “plaque.” These plaques are rich in cholesterol and other substances (notorious to promote clotting when exposed to circulating blood) and are covered by a cap. The plaque gradually increases in size and encroaches on the vessel lumen (the inside space of a tubular structure). This process is accelerated by risk factors like diabetes, high blood pressure, deranged lipids, smoking etc.

These risk factors are also associated with a high risk of a phenomenon called “plaque rupture” in which disruption of the cap leads to the plaque material getting exposed to the blood flowing in the vessel.

This sets into motion a rapid sequence of events which result in the formation of a clot at the site of rupture resulting in a complete blockade of blood flow beyond that point.

Since the blood and oxygen supply is cut off, the muscle cells of the heart begin to suffer damage and start to die. Irreversible damage begins within 30 minutes of blockage.

Prompt recognition of the problem and early aggressive measures to restore blood flow in the occluded vessel help prevent muscle damage. This forms the basis of the popular saying in cardiology that states “Time is Muscle”- the faster you move the more muscle you can save.

Cardiac arrest on the other hand occurs suddenly and often without any warning. It usually follows an electric malfunction in the heart causing a sudden cessation of electrical activity or irregular heartbeat (referred to as arrhythmia).

With its pumping action disrupted, the heart can not pump blood to the brain, lungs and other vital organs. The individual loses consciousness and is detected to be pulseless and in shock. Unless prompt resuscitative measures are instituted, death may result within minutes. A heart attack may precipitate a cardiac arrest.

Q. What is the most common reason why young Indians are falling prey to heart attacks?

A. The high incidence of heart attacks in India is not of a unifactorial origin but of a multifactorial one. While the prevalence of smoking has declined in the west, there has been a rise in its prevalence among Indian youth.

India has emerged as the diabetes capital of the world and this is a major risk factor for premature cardiac disease. Unhealthy eating habits coupled with lack of exercise have been contributing to it too.

Furthermore, uncontrolled hypertension, reliance on alternative schools of medicine, stress, obesity and air pollution also play a role in the occurrence of heart attacks.

Q. Why are "seemingly fit" people experiencing heart attacks more frequently now?

A. Lately, we have come across several incidences of cardiac arrest while exercising in gyms raising several concerns.

Chronic and monitored exercise training has shown several physical and mental benefits including a healthy heart.

Regular structured exercise regimens help control risk factors like diabetes, blood pressure and high cholesterol levels.

However, research has found evidence that sudden and high-intensity exercises (especially in people who exercise infrequently) can acutely increase the risk of sudden cardiac arrest in individuals with underlying cardiac disease like coronary artery disease (recognised or unrecognised) or cardiac muscle disorders like hypertrophic cardiomyopathy.

Exercise may increase the sheer stress in the blood vessel leading to plaque rupture.

Proper warm-up and cool-down periods (pre and post-exercise) and a gradual build-up of exercise time and severity over a period of time may be helpful in preventing unwanted cardiac events.

In-depth research on active gyms and the credentials of supposedly qualified trainers is also essential. The bulk of so-called self-styled trainers lack degrees in physical education and instruct according to their own whims and fancies because there are no guidelines in place.

Q. Can health supplements lead to unusual cardiac activity?

A. Protein supplements are the in thing among gym goers these days. They overlook the fact that a smart diet plan and using existing protein sources can build muscle, strengthen bones and power our body functions.

However, wanting quick and overnight results and most often peer pressure prompts people to use over-the-counter supplements available in an unregulated market.

The manufacturers package what they feel is safe. For the sake of palatability, they may add sugars, artificial flavours, thickeners and calories with detrimental effects. Many protein powders labelled herbal, ayurvedic and safe may in fact contain heavy metals like cadmium, lead, arsenic or mercury) leading to toxic effects.

×

Fat-burning supplements are popular as they help you lose weight in a short span of time. However, they can also occasionally have damaging side effects on our bodies. They may lead to a variety of side effects such as psychological alterations like nervousness, aggressive behaviour, anxiety and mood swings, loss of appetite, and dehydration, which may affect heart rate and blood pressure.

These may in turn trigger cardiac events. In fact, many dietitians and nutritionists recommend not taking any fat burner during your phase of weight loss.

Q. COVID-19 and heart attacks: Is there a correlation?

A. The Smidt Heart Institute at Cedars-Sinai, United States, recently reported that deaths from heart attacks rose significantly during pandemic surges, including the COVID-19 Omicron phase, overall reversing a heart-healthier pre-pandemic trend.

Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, heart attacks were the leading cause of death worldwide but were steadily on the decline. However, the new study—recently published in the peer-reviewed Journal of Medical Virology—shows that heart attack death rates took a sharp turn and increased for all age groups during the pandemic.

The rise in such cases has been seen across surges including the presumed less virulent omicron phase. Another disturbing finding reported is a significant increase in the 25-44 years age group who otherwise are often considered to have a lower risk.

Several plausible explanations have been proposed. The COVID-19 virus may accelerate pre-existing coronary artery disease even in young adults, it may lead to inflammation which may trigger the rupture of vulnerable plaques, mental stress like job loss fears, staying indoors with resultant lack of exercise and delay in seeking medical attention (for fear of exposure) may all play a role in triggering acute events.

Q. It has been recommended that one keep Aspirin 300 handy. Is that advice useful? Is it wise to disseminate this information?

A. A common misconception is that if a medicine is available without a prescription and can be purchased over the counter, it must be completely safe.

Aspirin is a vital medication in our armamentarium for treating heart attacks, but when used improperly, it increases the risk of internal bleeding.

It is important to only use the medicine when under a doctor's supervision. If one thinks one may be having a heart attack, it is best to get medical help right away.

If one is remotely placed then perhaps chewing a 325 mg aspirin tablet may be considered a reasonable option while sincere attempts are made to reach the nearest medical facility.

Q. Many people are resorting to herbal medicines after surviving a heart attack. Are they reliable?

Modern allopathic medications have a positive impact on post-heart attack care, according to large-scale randomised clinical trials.

The treatment plan for people who have undergone a heart attack includes the following medications broadly.

- Antiplatelet agents, which thin the blood.

- Statins, which lower cholesterol in the blood,

- Beta-blockers, which reduce blood pressure and,

- Angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors, which help relax the veins and arteries to lower blood pressure

As far as herbal medicines are concerned, they have not been tested in any major clinical trials, so their role in managing such patients is dubious and in some cases may be detrimental.

Q. What can be done to keep a young heart healthy?

The key to a healthy heart is to have a healthy lifestyle which includes a balanced diet, regular exercise, low-stress levels, giving up smoking, managing risk factors, and getting regular checkups. No signs or symptoms should be overlooked, and getting quick medical assistance may help keep us safe.

Young India's heart health: Cardiologist dispels myths around cardiac activity

The United Nations stated on February 23 that despite maternal death rates declining by a third in 20 years, a woman still dies every two minutes due to complications during pregnancy or childbirth.

The UN reported that rates reduced substantially between 2000 and 2015, but mostly stalled and even reversed in certain countries between 2016 and 2020.

Belarus saw the biggest fall, dropping 95.5 per cent, while Venezuela experienced the highest rise. The United States saw a significant increase between 2000 and 2015.

The worldwide maternal mortality rate decreased by 34.3 per cent during a 20-year period, going from 339 maternal deaths per 100,000 live births in 2000 to 223 maternal deaths in 2020, according to a report by the World Health Organization and other UN organisations.

Yet, that implies that in 2020, almost 800 women died every day, or one every two minutes.

"While pregnancy should be a time of immense hope and a positive experience for all women, it is tragically still a shockingly dangerous experience for millions around the world," said WHO chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus.

"These new statistics reveal the urgent need to ensure every woman and girl has access to critical health services... and that they can fully exercise their reproductive rights," she added.

The poorest nations continue to have the highest rates of maternal mortality.

Around 70 per cent of those deaths recorded in 2020 were in sub-Saharan Africa, where the rate is "136 times bigger" than in Australia and New Zealand, the report's author Jenny Cresswell told AFP.

Rates were more than double the world average in Afghanistan, the Central African Republic, Chad, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Somalia, South Sudan, Sudan, Syria, and Yemen, all of which are dealing with serious humanitarian crises.

The most common causes of mortality are severe bleeding, infections, complications from botched abortions, and underlying diseases including HIV/AIDS, according to the report.

The WHO said it was "critical" that women have control over their reproductive health, notably about whether or not to have children. This gives women the ability to plan and space out childbearing in order to safeguard their health.

× The poorest nations continue to have the highest rates of maternal mortality. Where does India stand? During the strict implementation of zero-Covid policy, Chinese citizens had to scan QR codes whenever they had to use public places, public facilities, hospitals and more. Provincial governments in China are now sitting on 'mountains' of information collected in last three years with no uniform national plan as to what is to be done of this information.

The government in the Guangdong province has become first government to say that personal information of citizens will be deleted from government database, as reported by South China Morning Post (SCMP).

“We will thoroughly delete and destroy all data related to the services … to effectively safeguard the security of personal information,” read the statement from the government released on the health code app.

However, there is no uniformity in approach in this regard across the country. Other cities and regions have reportedly expressed differing opinions about the data. Regions such as Beijing, Shanghai and Guizhou have gone for integration of this data with other government platforms in effect, retaining the data with the government.

China provinces take varied options over citizen data taken during pandemic

The United States has registered a significant rise in the use of Plan B emergency contraception, also known as the “morning-after” pill over the past five years while demand for other forms of contraception like birth control pills and condoms has reduced, according to an analysis of market research data by the Financial Times.

Over 15 million units of Plan B medication were sold last year, according to a Financial Times research, an increase of roughly 59 per cent from 2018. According to Symphony Health, a data supplier, during that time period, sale of condoms decreased by around 18 per cent while new prescriptions for oral contraceptive pills decreased by almost 15 per cent.

The data, which are estimates based on commercial insurance claims, retail sales, and other parameters, were cited by health experts as showing significant changes in how Americans access reproductive health services in light of the growing restrictions on abortion rights, following the Supreme Court's decision of overturning Roe v. Wade last year.

In addition, there has been a drop in in-person doctor visits as a result of greater over-the-counter availability to Plan B emergency contraception at pharmacies.

What is the Plan B, single-dose medication?

With the help of the hormone levonorgestrel, the single-dose drug Plan B delays ovulation. It works best when taken three days after unprotected intercourse and can reduce the likelihood of becoming pregnant by 75 per cent to 89 per cent. According to a healthcare provider, Planned Parenthood, who spoke to the Finacial Times, it is less effective than typical birth control pills, which when taken correctly may be up to 98 per cent effective.

Plan B is not recommended for normal contraception, although the US Food and Drug Administration has not said that there are any additional health concerns connected with using the drug than there are with taking conventional birth control tablets.

Rising dependence on emergency contraception rather than more conventional methods, particularly among young individuals, according to many health experts, should be combated by boosting education and outreach efforts as well as eliminating barriers to all types of birth control. They note the rising prevalence of STDs in the US and claim that Plan B is less effective than other methods of birth control.

Yet, they contend that at a time when abortion facilities are expanding, requests from some conservative groups to restrict access to Plan B should be rejected.

“The answer is not to restrict Plan B but to open up the doors to other types of contraception and make it easier for people to access information,” said Dr Kate White, a gynecologist and associate professor at Boston University Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine, who spoke to the Financial Times.

Young people are no longer willing to habitually trust medical advice, according to White, especially when friends or family have had negative experiences with intrauterine device discomfort or adverse effects from contraceptive pills, she said.

Where do other methods of contraception stand?

Standard birth control pills and IUDs, which are small devices placed into a woman's uterus to prevent conception, are only accessible in the US with a prescription, usually following a doctor's visit. Plan B, on the other hand, may normally be purchased over the counter for between $40 and $50, as reported by the Financial Times.

Fewer women are obtaining yearly gynaecological check-ups, which is another factor contributing to the rising dependence on Plan B.

According to Symphony Health statistics, the number of women with commercial insurance who saw a gynaecologist for a preventative yearly appointment last year decreased to 3.7 million in the 11 months leading up to the end of November from 5.9 million for the entire year.

COVID-19 and updated cervical cancer screening recommendations that increased the suggested age to begin Pap tests.

Plan B, which was approved for over-the-counter access in 2013, has experienced a massive increase in public awareness as a result of the Supreme Court decision last year, which prompted a rush of Republican-led states to restrict abortion access.

ALSO WATCH | Gravitas: Male contraceptive pill gets closer to reality Yet, they contend that at a time when abortion facilities are expanding, requests from some conservative groups to restrict access to Plan B should be rejected.
The national statistics office predicted that the percentage of South Koreans who will be living alone in 2050 will more than double from the year 2000.
India's Information Technology ministry on Friday (November 18) proposed a new draft of country's digital personal data protection bill. The provisions in the bill allow cross-border transfer of some users' data with "certain notified countries and territories". This is being considered a relief to Big Tech. Some social media giants have been at odds with Indian government in recent years over the issue of personal data.

The government in August withdrew the contentious Personal Data Protection (PDP) Bill that saw 81 amendments in the past three years, aiming to introduce a new, sharper bill that fits into the comprehensive legal framework and protects the data of billions of citizens.

"The Central government may, after an assessment of such factors as it may consider necessary, notify such countries or territories outside India to which a Data Fiduciary may transfer personal data, in accordance with such terms and conditions as may be specified," the new draft bill read.

The new bill has also has provision of harsh penalties of up to USD 30 million if companies fail to prevent data breaches.

"Failure of Data Processor or Data Fiduciary to take reasonable security safeguards to prevent personal data breach under sub-section (4) of section 9 of this Act" will cost a maximum penalty of USD 30 million.

"Personal data breach" means any unauthorised processing of personal data or accidental disclosure, acquisition, sharing, use, alteration, destruction of or loss of access to personal data, that compromises the confidentiality, integrity or availability of personal data," the draft bill said.

The bill has now been made public for consultation. The ministry will hear views and suggestions from the public until December 17.

"The purpose of this Act is to provide for the processing of digital personal data in a manner that recognises both the right of individuals to protect their personal data and the need to process personal data for lawful purposes, and for matters connected therewith or incidental thereto," said the draft.

On the matter of data storage, the draft bill says that "the storage should be limited to such duration as is necessary for the stated purpose for which personal data was collected".

Similar to Europe`s GDPR, the proposed Indian bill will apply to companies operating in the country and to any entities processing the data of Indian citizens.

Rupinder Malik, Partner at law firm JSA, said that the draft bill has simplified the proposed data protection regime and done away with some contentious clauses which caused industry pushback in earlier versions.

"Particularly, data mirroring, data localisation requirements, and overall compliances appear to be limited compared to the previous Bill. The legislative intent appears to be tech and IT business friendly, focused on facilitating cross-border data flows," said Malik.

The British government introduced a new mini-budget on September 23 in the parliament with the goal of reducing household taxes and energy costs while promoting economic growth.

Kwarteng's comprehensive new budget would entail reductions to national insurance, stamp duty, and the top tax rate, marking the largest tax decrease budget since 1972.

According to Kwarteng, the budget would address three important issues: the assurance of the energy price, equal assistance for all businesses, and a financing plan for the energy markets.

A proposal was made to lower the highest rate from 45 to 40 per cent and lower the lowest rate from 20 to 19 per cent.

Following the budget, the market was rocked by the massive unfunded tax cuts, which caused UK government bond yields to skyrocket and caused the pound to drop to a record low of $1.0350 on September 26.

Timeline: Liz Truss's U-turn to stay in power; sacks finance minister Kwasi Kwarteng

The potential of a nuclear 'Armageddon' is at its greatest point in 60 years, United States President Joe Biden has warned as the Ukraine war drags on. A scenario in which nuclear weapons resulted in global annihilation is known as a nuclear 'Armageddon', also known as a 'nuclear holocaust.'

Nuclear weapons are considered weapons of mass destruction because they have the potential to produce significant radioactive effects. Only twice in history have nuclear weapons been used in actual combat, and both times were in 1945 when the US dropped atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki to finish the Second World War.

As Russia asserted it would employ "all means" at its disposal to defend its borders, Biden claimed that Russian President Vladimir Putin was "not joking." A "precedent" was set by the US utilising nuclear weapons during World War Two, according to Putin.

Analysts, however, contend that rather than indicating a desire to deploy nuclear weapons, Putin's remarks should most likely be taken as a warning to other nations not to intensify their participation in Ukraine.

How many nuclear weapons does Russia possess?

The number of nuclear warheads in Russia is 5,977, according to the Federation of American Scientists, albeit this number includes roughly 1,500 that are decommissioned and scheduled for decommissioning. All nuclear weapon numbers are estimations.

The majority of the 4,500 or so surviving nuclear weapons—ballistic missiles or rockets with long-range targeting capabilities—are regarded as strategic nuclear weapons. These are the weapons that nuclear war is typically linked to.

The remaining nuclear weapons are smaller and less lethal and are intended for close-range combat on land or at sea. But this does not imply that Russia is prepared with thousands of long-range nuclear weapons.

Global comparison

Nine nations possess nuclear weapons: China, France, India, Israel (though not publicly acknowledged), North Korea, Pakistan, Russia, the US, and the UK.

According to experts, 1,500 Russian warheads are currently "deployed," that is, located at missile launchers. The Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT) has 191 signatories, including China, France, Russia, the US, and the UK.

The potential of a nuclear 'Armageddon' is at its greatest point in 60 years, United States President Joe Biden has warned as the Ukraine war drags on. A scenario in which nuclear weapons resulted in global annihilation is known as a nuclear 'Armageddon', also known as a 'nuclear holocaust.' Nuclear weapons are considered weapons of mass destruction because they have the potential to produce significant radioactive effects. Global comparison Nine nations possess nuclear weapons: China, France, India, Israel (though not publicly acknowledged), North Korea, Pakistan, Russia, the US, and the UK. According to experts, 1,500 Russian warheads are currently "deployed," that is, located at missile launchers. The Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT) has 191 signatories, including China, France, Russia, the US, and the UK. As per the agreement, they are required to decrease their arsenal of nuclear warheads and, in theory, are devoted to completely eliminating them. × × × Additionally, it has decreased the number of warheads kept in those nations since the 1970s and 1980s. Under the Queen, social conventions have undergone a significant shift. Family structures are less strict than they formerly were, which is related to religion's declining power.
Laws passed in the 1960s and early 1970s made divorce considerably simpler and legalised abortion and homosexuality. In 1952, divorcees and families with only one parent were socially stigmatised, but they are now widespread.
Data Lab| Sovereign for 70 years: Changes that happened in the UK during Queen Elizabeth II’s reign

The craft beer sector in the United States can rejoice as the sun is finally shining again. This impression is reinforced by the Brewers Association's recent report, the industry's main trade group, which shows the sector's strong recovery from pandemic-related losses. Even while there might still be some gloomy days ahead, the storm has hopefully gone for good.

As per the Brewers Association of the United States, a craft brewery, often known as a microbrewery, is a brewery that normally produces less beer than big brewers and is frequently privately owned. These breweries are typically marketed and seen as placing focus on traditional ingredients, novel flavours, and a variety of brewing techniques.

An industry predicated on human interactions saw its first-ever volume decrease in 2020, down by 9 per cent, as a result of the widespread closures of bars, tasting rooms, and virtually every other meeting place. However, 2021 brought good news. The BarthHaas Report 2021-2022 indicates that the share of the top 40 brewers has increased from 88.7 per cent of the total production in 2017 to 91.4 per cent of the total production in 2021.

This is a positive development for the industry, which saw 36 of the top 50 brewers post losses in 2019. The unprecedented run of continuous development it had experienced over the previous ten years began to diminish even before the epidemic. Craft beer was finally able to become a part of every aspect of the American beer landscape during that time. By 2021, there would be 9247 breweries operating, up from 1813 in 2010.

In 2021, the top 40 brewers of the world produced 91.4 per cent of the total beer output, out of which the top 10 brewers claimed 73.8 per cent of market output as per the BarthHaas Report. Some of these breweries have subsequently outgrown the "micro" level due to their success, but they are still referred to as microbreweries because of the type of beer they are making. The term "speciality brewers" is now used to describe some. This effectively demonstrates how the development of microbreweries has led to a full circle in the consolidation, international mergers, and acquisitions of the world's beer industry.

The beer transition

The only locations in Europe where beer was produced on a scale that could be considered commercial up until the thirteenth century were monasteries. The monks, visitors, pilgrims, and the underprivileged were all served beer. Later, monks began brewing beer for noblemen, selling it in "monastery pubs," and offering it for free use during church festivities and feasts.

From the fourteenth century onward, commercial brewers began to seriously threaten monastery beer production. Beer demand increased as income levels rose, trade and communities grew, and people became more concerned about water pollution. Travelling merchants needed a place to stay, food, and drink, and "inns" and "taverns" tried to provide for their needs. Trade centres like London, Bruges, Hamburg, and Munich quickly developed into significant brewing hubs.

The beer industry underwent a significant transition globally due to scientific advancements made in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. New types of beer could be manufactured and the production process could be more precisely managed thanks to advances in our understanding of yeast, steam engines, and refrigeration. As a result, the brewery sector started down the path of industrialization, which significantly consolidated the market.

According to the BarthHaas Report 2021-2022, the top 10 beer brewing countries in the world are - China, the United States of America, Brazil, Mexico, Germany, Russia, Japan, Vietnam, the United Kingdom, and Poland.

×

But there has been a counter-movement, which began in the US, against the growing dominance of increasingly standardised lager and light beers made by fewer and fewer brewing enterprises. Due to their modest size, new breweries producing "special beers" and "older" styles of beer were given the moniker "microbreweries." Similar trends are currently being seen in several nations. Even though they still produce a small portion of the world's beer, microbreweries are expanding quickly.

Although the aggregate growth figures could suggest brighter times ahead, craft beer still faces several difficulties. Government initiatives that helped many brewers weather the most difficult phases of the shutdowns have come to an end, supply chain concerns are straining already thin bottom lines, and the alcohol market is becoming increasingly competitive with new players vying for consumers' attention.

Nonetheless, craft brewers can concentrate on doing what they do best—brewing the finest of suds.

However, 2021 brought good news. The BarthHaas Report 2021-2022 indicates that the share of the top 40 brewers has increased from 88.7 per cent of the total production in 2017 to 91.4 per cent of the total production in 2021. × This is a positive development for the industry, which saw 36 of the top 50 brewers post losses in 2019. × The beer transition The only locations in Europe where beer was produced on a scale that could be considered commercial up until the thirteenth century were monasteries. × But there has been a counter-movement, which began in the US, against the growing dominance of increasingly standardised lager and light beers made by fewer and fewer brewing enterprises.

Ireland: Instagram slapped USD 400 million fine over children's data

According to data made public by American safety regulators, automakers recorded roughly 400 crashes involving vehicles with automated driver-assist systems, that included 273 Teslas.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration issued a warning against using the statistics to contrast different automakers, claiming that they weren't weighted according to the volume of each manufacturer's vehicles employing the systems or their mileage.

From July 2021 to May 15, the crashes were reported. According to CNBC, Autopilot, "full self-driving," traffic aware cruise control, and other driver-assist technologies that have some steering and speed control were all in use when Tesla's vehicles crashed. The systems are in around 830,000 automobiles owned by the corporation.

More than 100 automakers and autonomous vehicle technology companies were ordered by the NHTSA in June 2021 to report serious crashes as soon as they become aware of them and to reveal less serious crashes by the 15th day of the following month. The organisation is analysing the systems' functionality to determine whether new restrictions could be required.

As reported by the New York Times, the administrator of the organisation, Steven Cliff, stated that when more data is gathered, "NHTSA will be better equipped to identify any emerging hazards or trends and learn more about how these technologies are operating in the real world."

Tesla may have a high crash rate because it employs telematics to track its cars and obtain real-time crash information. The NHTSA stated that because other automakers lack this capability, their submissions may be delayed or incomplete.

Nearly 70% of the 392 crashes recorded by the twelve automakers were caused by Tesla. Although the Austin, Texas, carmaker refers to its technologies as Autopilot and "Full Self-Driving," it insists that drivers must always be prepared to take over control of the vehicles. In addition, the NHTSA reported that six people suffered significant injuries and five people died in crashes utilising driver-assist systems.

According to NHTSA, manufacturers were not required to record how many vehicles they have on the road with the devices, how far those vehicles have gone, or when the systems are being used. According to an agency official, those numbers are not currently quantifiable.

NHTSA may, however, later look for such data. In the interim, it is now able to learn about accidents much more quickly than in the past thanks to the additional data. The government stated that it is currently using the crash data to look for trends and discuss them with the companies.

On Thursday, Moscow's Tagansky District Court fined WhatsApp million rubles ($300,000), and Snapchat 1 million rubles ($16,600), according to TASS news agency.

This is the second time WhatsApp has been punished for failing to comply with the data localisation norms. Last August, the Meta-owned messaging platform was fined 4 mln rubles ($54,040) for refusal to localise Russian users’ data.

In this fast evolving world where every second is a new discovery, most of us are clueless that somebody, somewhere is watching us. Yes, you heard it right. Data privacy is a myth, and data science is the sole truth.

Be it Google, Amazon, Netflix, Uber, Apple, every tech giant is collecting tonnes of data from our devices, about our activities, and with our permission. From where we checked in last night, what we ate for dinner, what shows we like to watch, what items we prefer to buy, and where we live, they have the exact information. They use the principles of mathematics to extract science from our data and sell their artificial intelligence (AI) powered bots back to us at the cost of recommending our favourite dishes, shows, movies, etc. However, this is just the tip of the iceberg. Data can be used for various purposes, from re-creating your voice to your facial expressions, we can do it all, just with the relevant data.

Let's take a simple example. Most of us have an Alexa or a Google mini at home. When powered on, it continuously records whatever we say, even when we are not specifically speaking to Alexa and just having a casual conversation with our family.

But, it is all legal as it is up to us what we would like to share with them. Most of us grant them all the permissions they ask for on our mobile phones, but we should always check why this particular permission to access our microphones, cameras, or gallery is needed. We can give them this permission only while using the app. This will stop a lot of background data theft. So, beware of the data you share. It is as simple as turning off Alexa after use.
