The bidding was for page 25 of Marvel Comics’ ‘Secret Wars No. 8’ in which Mike Zeck for the first time introduced Spidey in a black suit, which eventually led to the emergence of the anti-hero Venom.

The record bidding, which started at $330,000 and soared over $3 million, came on the first day of Heritage Auctions' four-day comic event in Dallas, Texas.

“This page was the big reveal teased on the cover! This is where Peter Parker actually got his spiffy new black costume,” Heritage Auctions said in its description of the artwork for page 25 of the issue.

“But... it’s a costume with a secret! Because it very soon turns out to be alive and have its own agenda. This is the origin of the character Venom!”

The previous record for an interior page of a US comic book was $657,250 for art from a 1974 issue of “The Incredible Hulk” that featured a tease for the first appearance of Wolverine.

The copy was graded 6.0 by comic book grading authority CGC. Two other copies of the world's most famous comic book issue with a higher grade have previously sold for more at auction, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The page’s sale comes a month after the release of Spider-Man: No Way Home which has smashed box office records across the globe despite the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

The film, which drew its plot and striking visual style from the 1998 Frank Miller/Lynn Varley comics of the same name, required its cast of to wear very little. “That was the best shape I have ever been in in my life,” Butler said, who worked out six hours a day. “In some ways, I was ruining my body, but I was looking amazing doing it.”

The $60 million Warner Bros. feature began its two-month shoot in Montreal in October 2005; except for one exterior, it was all performed in front of bluescreens. “There were times you would walk around in your red cape and little leather underpants and someone would point at nothing and say, ‘Look! A burning village!’ And I remember going, ‘Oh my God. This movie’s going to suck,’ ”&nbsp;Butler added.

“When I first saw the final product, I was with 13 of my representatives and friends, and our jaws were dropping,” Butler remembers. “It was like, ‘Look at what Zack did!’ I can’t speak highly enough about him. As a director, as a creative, as a kind, excited, passionate guy.”

As a result of the `House of X` line and its wide relaunch of the franchise, mutant-kind in Marvel`s comic book universe has relocated to the island of Krakoa, forming a standalone society with new rules, new laws, and new morality - which is where Way of X, created by Si Spurrier (John Constantine: Hellblazer) and Bob Quinn (Captain America), begins.

In a statement about the new title, writer Spurrier said, "I should probably just tell a lie for the sake of a neat elevator pitch and say that Way of X is a story about the creation of a new mutant religion. But it`s not -- not really."That`s kinda where it starts, for sure. Nightcrawler realizes something`s wrong with the hearts and minds of mutant-kind and sets out to fix it. But as he quickly discovers, this isn`t a job for priests and prayers... The question is, what do they have to become in order to fight it? Preachers? Cops? Executioners?
