Following the contentious election last week, a potential alliance between Pakistan's two biggest political parties won't endure very long or provide any results, a political analyst told Reuters on Tuesday, February 13.

"I don't think any government which comes will be able to withstand the demand for other elections, better managed elections, more honest elections in the near future," former diplomat Zafar Hilaly, who is based in Karachi, told Reuters. "I don't see this coalition government lasting for a long time. Quite frankly, given the accusations that have been made regarding the elections, the integrity of elections," Hilaly said.

Following an inconclusive vote last week, Pakistan's two biggest political parties were compelled to work together in an attempt to build a coalition in the house, which is dominated by independents. Since then, they have been fighting over who will be prime minister. The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), led by Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, the deceased former premier Benazir Bhutto's son, and the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), neither gained enough seats to form a government on their own. With 93 of the 264 parliamentary seats declared, independent candidates supported by imprisoned former prime minister Imran Khan constitute the largest group.

The backstabbing is probably going to make people more worried about the stability of the country, which is struggling with both an increase in violent extremism and an economic crisis.

According to Hilaly, Pakistan's military forces will be capable of managing the country's security issues, but the new administration would be unable to address the long-term economic issues facing the nation.

"The identical opposition that is in power today was in power six months ago, and I don't think they can handle the problem," he continued. "We literally are broke, bankrupt, and we borrow everything."

Kaja Kallas to remain Estonia's PM; Reform party, Estonia 200 party and Social Democratic party form coalition

Benjamin Netanyahu makes an announcement on Twitter that he has succeeded in forming a new government in Israel after a tough negotiation with religious and far-right coalition partners. It will be the most right-wing coalition in Israel's history.

Israel's Benjamin Netanyahu forms new coalition government

A month after winning the elections, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu finally mustered a coalition government, considered to be the most right in the country’s history.

His coalition consists of the main ultra-Orthodox parties and members of the extreme bloc that ran under the Religious Zionism alliance.

One of the coalition parties of Netanyahu’s government has a history of spewing anti-Arab racism, with a leader once convicted of such an act.

The announcement sets the stage for him to return to power for the record sixth term.

Minutes after forming the government, the Israeli leader tweeted, “Thanks to the enormous public support we received in the last elections, I was able to establish a government that will work for the benefit of all Israeli citizens.”

Netanyahu made the announcement after meeting President Isaac Herzog, moments before a midnight deadline.

Netanyahu’s Likud party has been engaging in intense negations with his allies after the November polls.

However, the talks went on for weeks with Netanyahu forced to meet the demands for senior cabinet posts, some of which he was compelled to grant.

Among his most controversial moves was promising an expanded national security ministry to the head of the Jewish Power party, Itamar Ben Gvir, who has a long history of using incendiary rhetoric against Arabs.

It is currently unknown when the new government will be sworn in, but Netanyahu told Herzog that he intended to do so "as soon as possible", reports AFP news agency.

Even before the ministers take charge, speculations have gained momentum on the reforms planned by the incoming government.

Experts have raised concerns about some legal reforms that could give the MPs the right to overrule Supreme Court decisions, saying that they threaten to undermine Israeli democracy.

The coalition partners have also proposed other measures that could end Netanyahu's ongoing trial on charges of bribery, fraud and breach of trust.

Leaders of the ruling coalition in Bihar demanded on Sunday that the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) be stripped of its general authority, claiming that the agency was being used for political ends by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led government at the federal level. The Delhi Special Police Establishment (DSPE) Act, 1946's Section 6 states that the CBI must obtain the appropriate state governments' permission before conducting investigations within their borders.

Nine states have revoked their general approval of the CBI's ability to investigate cases within their borders, including West Bengal, Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan, Punjab, and Meghalaya.

Leader of the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), Shivanand Tiwari, told PTI that the grand coalition government in Bihar must revoke the approval provided to the CBI due to the manner the federal agencies are being abused to target the <a href="https://www.wionews.com/india-news/india-bihar-cm-nitish-kumar-wins-trust-vote-amid-bjp-walkout-509775">BJP's political adversaries</a>.

“Besides, option should also be explored by the state government to approach the judiciary to check the misuse of central agencies,” he said.

“I must say that the central investigative agencies have lost their credibility during the NDA regime,” he said.

Manoj Kumar Jha, a senior RJD politician, told the media that once the BJP's "Maharashtra-like plan" to rule the state through the backdoor failed, it engaged independent agencies like the CBI, ED, and Income Tax.&nbsp;“The BJP is feeling embarrassed after the Gurgaon-based mall and other business establishments raided by the CBI came out with statements denying their links with deputy CM Tejashwi Prasad Yadav,” said Jha.

The Janata Dal (United), the party of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, declared that the moment was right to revoke the CBI's general approval. People in Bihar are paying attention and will respond appropriately when the time is right, according to state minister Madan Sahni. "The way central agencies like the CBI, ED, and Income Tax Department are being misused to ruin the image of opposition leaders, people in Bihar are watching," he added.

He criticized BJP leaders and Union ministers who had disparaged CM Kumar. Sahni stated, "The politicians, who are currently holding good positions in the administration and the party, must remember efforts of the CM in supporting their election success.

Mehboob Alam, a CPIML(L) state legislator, asserted that there was no question the federal government was abusing its power to topple non-BJP state governments.

“All central investigative agencies are working with political motives and they never act against BJP leaders. Our grand alliance government in Bihar should immediately withdraw the general consent granted to the CBI, curtailing the agency’s powers in the state,” he said.

This should stop now and the Bihar government must withdraw its consent to the CBI,” he said.

Under the condition of anonymity, a top RJD official said that the Bihar government has begun taking steps to revoke the approval given to the CBI.

Seven parties make up the "Mahagthbandhan" in Bihar, including the JD(U), RJD, Congress, CPIML (L), CPI, CPI(M), and HAM. Together, these parties have more than 160 MLAs in the 243-member assembly.

As part of its investigation into the alleged land-for-jobs fraud that is said to have occurred when Lalu Prasad was the railway minister, the CBI investigated the homes of senior RJD officials in Bihar on Wednesday. The operation happened on a day when the state house was set to vote on the chief minister's trust after he broke with the BJP to form an alliance with the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD). According to Section 6 of the DSPE Act, 1946, several state governments have given the CBI broad consent to investigate a specific class of offenses against a specific category of people, allowing the CBI to register and look into such specific problems.

The minister's response states that Mizoram, West Bengal, Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Kerala, Jharkhand, Punjab, and Meghalaya have withdrawn or not generally authorized the CBI to investigate matters. Extension of the CBI's jurisdiction under the terms of Section 5 of the DSPE Act, 1946, can only be taken into consideration when the state government has given its permission.

The 5-Star Movement, one of the Italian ruling government&nbsp;coalition's members, announced on Thursday that it will not participate in a parliamentary confidence vote. This puts Prime Minister Mario Draghi's coalition government in danger of collapsing. Similarly, other coalition parties have threatened to leave the government if 5-Star boycotts the Senate vote that is scheduled for later in the day.&nbsp;Giuseppe Conte, the head of the 5-Star party, declared late on Wednesday that his party will not support the vote of confidence.

Addressing a steep increase in energy prices, he remarked, "I have a strong fear that September will be a time when many families will face the terrible choice of paying their electricity bill or buying food." According to Reuters, the minister said that the government ought to be doing more to address the growing social problems in the "eurozone's third-largest economy".

The 5-Star party's decision throws Italy's government into disarray, and also poses a threat to the country's efforts to secure billions of euros in EU funding, and may trigger early national elections this fall.

As cost-of-living skyrockets, Italy's government faces implosion

The Naftali Bennett-led government has lost a vote on the West Bank settler law. The opposition voted down the push to uphold the Israeli law in the settlement.

Major blow to Israel's coalition government: West Bank bill defeated by 58-52 margin

Karnataka Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy Friday said the <a href="https://www.wionews.com/india-news/amid-coalition-worries-hd-kumaraswamy-holds-talks-with-siddaramaiah-223537">coalition government headed by him</a> would complete its five-year term and any talk of mid-term polls now is "irrelevant".

His comments came as a video of his son Nikhil asking JD(S) workers to get ready for assembly polls doing rounds on social media.

"Nikhil Kumaraswamy cheering up party workers has told them that they should always be ready to serve the society. Not only during elections, they should always keep the party in a state of activeness so as to win the election whenever it comes. This statement of his has been quoted out of context by the media to represent that there may be election anytime," H D Kumaraswamy said in a statement.

He said, "The coalition government will successfully complete its five-year term. Any talk of mid-term polls now is irrelevant."

In an indication of lack of trust between coalition partners the JD(S) and the Congress, the video purportedly showed Nikhil asking JD(S) workers to prepare themselves for assembly poll, saying one doesn't know when it would come.

However, he also said there was no threat to the government and his father would complete the tenure.

"We need to start now only. We should not say we will do it later. We have to prepare from the next month onwards. We don't know when it (election) comes, next year, after two years or three years. JD(S) leaders should be ready," the video showed Nikhil telling party workers.

"There is no problem to the government. It will complete (its tenure). You get tensed due to the reports in media. It is not like that. We know what is there inside (government). Nothing will happen. Kumaranna (Kumaraswamy) will run (the government) for the next four years too," he had said.

Nikhil lost the Lok Sabha poll from Mandya to BJP-backed Independent candidate Sumalatha Ambareesh. His remarks to JD(S) workers had gained significance amid coalition woes and threat of instability.

Congress and JD(S) leaders are making all efforts to save the government, with even plans of cabinet expansion, fearing the BJP might revive efforts to topple it encouraged by the spectacular win in the Lok Sabha polls in which it won 25 of the 28 seats in the state.

The coalition partners had won only one seat each.

Israeli lawmakers have voted to dissolve parliament after Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu failed to form a coalition government.

Gravitas: Netanyahu fails to form Coalition

Israeli lawmakers voted to dissolve parliament early on Thursday, paving the way for a new election after veteran Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu failed to form a coalition government before a midnight deadline.

The September 17 ballot will be Israel's second this year. It spells <a href="https://www.wionews.com/world/israel-inches-closer-to-snap-election-with-overnight-vote-222182">unprecedented upheaval</a> even for a country used to political infighting and is a big blow to Netanyahu, who had claimed victory in the last election on April 9.

Parliament's 74-to-45 vote took place just minutes after a midnight deadline for Netanyahu to assemble his fifth government.

The turmoil arose - officially, at least - from a feud over military conscription between Netanyahu's presumed allies: ex-defence minister Avigdor Lieberman, a far-right secularist, and ultra-Orthodox Jewish parties.

Those parties want young religious scholars exempted, en masse from mandatory national service. But Lieberman and many other Israelis want them to share the burden.

Netanyahu denounced the draft spat as a "Kafkaesque" ruse.

"It's just unbelievable. Avigdor Lieberman is now part of the left," he told reporters. "It is perfectly clear that he wanted to topple this government ... to cobble together a few more votes."

Yet the new ballot represents less of a setback for Netanyahu than the alternative in which Israel's president, Reuven Rivlin, could have asked another politician to try and form a ruling coalition.

Faced with the prospect of having to step aside and watch one of his <a href="https://www.wionews.com/world/netanyahu-says-coalition-deal-still-possible-as-talk-of-new-polls-mounts-221841/amp">political rivals </a>push him to the margins, Netanyahu instead drummed up votes to dissolve the 120-seat Knesset.

Netanyahu signalled he will run in the next election, telling reporters: "We will win". The spokesman for his conservative Likud party sent out a text emoji showing a smiling Netanyahu with the message: "Get out and vote."

But the failed coalition building of a 69-year-old leader who just weeks ago was hailed by supporters as a political "magician" may open rifts and stir up challenges within Likud.

Courts and statecraft&nbsp;

The premier is also dogged by potential criminal charges in three corruption cases. He has denied wrongdoing and is due to argue at a pre-trial hearing in October against any indictment.

A new election could further complicate U.S. efforts to press ahead with President Donald Trump's peace plan in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Even before it has been announced, Palestinians have spurned it as a blow to their statehood hopes.

The White House team behind the proposal, including Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner, is in the Middle East to drum up support for an economic "workshop" in Bahrain next month to encourage investment in the occupied West Bank and Gaza.

The group arrived in Israel on Wednesday and planned to meet Netanyahu on Thursday. "Lots to pray for!" tweeted one of the envoys, Jason Greenblatt, from Jerusalem's Western Wall.

Three hours before Wednesday's 2100 GMT deadline, Likud said it had secured 60 signatures, half of parliament, but shy of the majority required for a measure of stable governance.

In another sign of Netanyahu's strong desire to retain the premiership, the opposition centre-left Labour party said it had been offered - and had refused - a chance to join a Likud-led coalition. Likud, which has long said it plans to head a strong right-wing government, neither denied or confirmed this.

First elected in the late 1990s, Netanyahu has been in power for the past decade. In mid-July, he will overtake Israel's founding father, David Ben-Gurion, as longest-serving premier.

The last election ended with Netanyahu neck-and-neck against Benny Gantz, a politically untested ex-armed forces chief.

Lieberman, who quit as defence minister in November, in protest at what he deemed insufficient Israeli military force in fighting Hamas in Gaza, has denied allegations that his real intention was to oust Netanyahu and lead a "national camp".

Until the drama over coalition building, public attention had been focused more on moves Netanyahu loyalists were planning in parliament to grant him immunity from criminal prosecution and to pass a law ensuring such protection could not be withdrawn by the Supreme Court.

Israel faces second election in months as Netanyahu fails to form government

Spain is readying for one of its most tightly contested national elections in decades, with the result too close to call and at least five parties from across the political spectrum with a chance of being in government.

Sunday`s ballot is set to mark a number of firsts: the first coalition government since Spain`s return to democracy in the late 1970s, the first far-right lawmakers since 1982, and the first campaign since the financial crisis not centred on the economy.

Lengthy coalition talks are expected to follow the vote, feeding into a broader mood of political uncertainty gripping Europe.&nbsp;

Campaigning ends at midnight on Friday, and polling stations will close at 8:00 p.m. (1800 GMT) on Sunday. The count should be all but finalised by midnight.

Here`s what`s at stake:&nbsp;

WHO WILL WIN?

No party will win enough seats to form a government on its own, and opinion polls - the last of which was published on Monday before two televised debates between the leaders of four of the five main parties - point to a deeply fragmented parliament.

Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez`s Socialists are in the lead and tipped to win just under 30 per cent of votes, according to a poll of polls by newspaper El Pais.

That would give them the best chance of leading a coalition government, but as they would need to team up with one or more allies, there is no guarantee this would work.

Several other scenarios - including a right-wing coalition or a repeat election - remain possible, and it could be months before a new prime minister is chosen.

For now, a range of possible outcomes are all within opinion polls` margin of error.&nbsp;

WHY IS THIS SO COMPLEX?&nbsp;

Final polls put the proportion of undecided or wavering voters as high as four in ten.&nbsp;

Pollsters have also been struggling to predict how well new far-right party Vox will fare, though all agree it will get lawmakers, the first of that political hue in almost four decades.&nbsp;

The impact of Monday`s and Tuesday`s election debates, from which Vox was excluded on legal grounds, is a further unknown.

Many political analysts say the candidate who performed best was Pablo Iglesias, leader of anti-austerity party Podemos - which had been losing a lot of ground in opinion polls.

The 350 deputies in Spain`s lower house are elected in 52 constituencies, whose size varies widely.

As the number of contenders has increased, forecasting the winners have got tougher, particularly in small rural areas.

Parties unused to coalition-building are also unlikely to strike any post-election deal in Madrid that might jeopardize their chances in local and regional ballots due on May 26.&nbsp;

Furthermore, most parties are either undergoing internal upheavals or have new leaders, meaning much could still change in terms of strategy and alliances.

Spaniards will also elect 208 representatives to the Senate, which has a low political profile and has been controlled by the conservative PP since 2011.&nbsp;

WHO WILL BE PRIME MINISTER?

Under the most optimistic scenario for the Socialists, Sanchez could stay on as prime minister with just one ally, Podemos.

But opinion polls show the Socialists and Podemos are likely to need the backing of smaller, nationalist parties, possibly from Catalonia, which would replicate the combination that allowed Sanchez to become prime minister in June.

Concessions the smaller parties would seek in return - and pressure from right-wing parties already accusing Sanchez of being a "traitor" for being open to dialogue with Catalan secessionists - make any such alliance a tough though not impossible ask.

According to final polls, the three rightist parties combined - the PP, centre-right Ciudadanos and Vox - would not have a parliamentary majority. But that is also a margin-of-error call.

One scenario of a likely majority would be between Ciudadanos and the Socialists. But Ciudadanos chief Albert Rivera has ruled out a deal with Sanchez who - while not excluding the option altogether - said on Tuesday such a pact was not part of his plans either.

As the clear poll leader, Sanchez is looking to retain as much leeway as possible to explore alternative options, none of which appear ideal.

One outcome does seem certain, however: confirmation of the end of the two-party system that began with Spain`s return to democracy and started unravelling in 2015.&nbsp;

WHAT ARE THE MAIN ISSUES FOR VOTERS?

The campaign has focused on identity and values, relegating the economy to a rare subsidiary role.

Catalonia`s independence drive, which has polarised the nation as well as the region, is a high-profile factor, especially with 12 of its former leaders standing trial.

PP, Ciudadanos and Vox are competing for the anti-separatist vote but the Socialists, after refusing to give in to Catalan demands to secure their backing for the budget, will also aim to use the issue to their advantage.&nbsp;

With the rise of Vox and with PP veering to the right and the Socialists campaigning on a progressive stance, the parties are differentiating themselves on issues ranging from women`s rights to the removal of former dictator Francisco Franco`s remains from a grand mausoleum.

All the main parties have traded accusations of corruption, while the economy, forecast to grow a relatively robust 2.2 per cent this year, has been a largely peripheral campaign issue.&nbsp;

WHY SHOULD MARKETS AND THE EU CARE?

Spain has had a succession of minority or caretaker governments over the past three years, meaning structural reforms have been delayed.

And, while the Socialists have managed to adopt some economic measures including an increase in pensions and minimum wages, their rolling over of the 2018 budget means a number of tax hikes will not enter force, making it harder to cut the deficit from 2018`s 2.48 per cent of economic output.

Explainer: Why Spain's election is so open, and how it may pan out

Finns can expect a broad, ineffective coalition government for the next four years as the Social Democrats, who narrowly won weekend elections, focus on keeping the surging anti-immigration populists out, analysts said.

The polls were closely watched to see how the nationalists would do ahead of European Parliament elections in May when many believe they and the eurosceptic camp as a whole could make significant inroads.

As <a href="https://www.google.com/url?q=https://www.wionews.com/world/voting-begins-in-finlands-anti-austerity-election-210249&amp;sa=U&amp;ved=0ahUKEwikj_HB79HhAhUR7nMBHVoaC4QQFggFMAA&amp;client=internal-uds-cse&amp;cx=006054055338965708568:09spwrlibei&amp;usg=AOvVaw1v2etSAySLXb-ynDe5Rqrw">Finland</a>'s politicos digested Sunday's vote, the big question Monday was what role the far-right anti-immigration Finns Party, which more than doubled its seats in parliament under the leadership of hardline nationalist Jussi Halla-aho, would play.

The Social Democrats came in as Finland's biggest party with 17.7 per cent of the votes, just ahead of the Finns Party on 17.5 per cent.

Halla-aho told Finnish media Monday he did not want to repeat the mistakes his party made in 2015 when it entered government and was forced to compromise on <a href="https://www.google.com/url?q=https://www.wionews.com/world/finland-populists-eye-election-upset-as-anti-immigrant-feeling-rises-210029&amp;sa=U&amp;ved=0ahUKEwikj_HB79HhAhUR7nMBHVoaC4QQFggIMAE&amp;client=internal-uds-cse&amp;cx=006054055338965708568:09spwrlibei&amp;usg=AOvVaw1hP9dYU4GQV_TOsRrkC3A-">immigration</a> and EU bailouts.&nbsp;

"We were flexible about the wrong things," he told Finland's biggest newspaper Helsingin Sanomat.

"I don't see it as possible that the Finns Party would take part in a government which doesn't clearly commit to reducing humanitarian migration," he added.&nbsp;

On the campaign trail, Halla-aho told supporters he wanted to see the refugee intake reduced to "almost zero".

This would appear to clash directly with the Social Democratic Party's manifesto pledge to make it easier for refugees in Finland to be joined by family members from their home countries.

Social Democrat leader Antti Rinne told reporters early Monday that cooperation with the Finns Party "looks unlikely".

While Halla-aho said he would be interested in the post of interior minister, in charge of immigration, he was also upbeat in interviews at the prospect of being in opposition.

He told reporters that the huge increase to his party's parliamentary seat-count -- from 17 to 39, just one shy of the Social Democrats -- would give his party sway over any future discussion on immigration, whether or not it was a member of the government.

"Of course they're scared of losing voters to us," he told Helsingin Sanomat.&nbsp;

"It would be quite strange if they didn't take that into account in some way."

Grand left-right coalition&nbsp;

Political analyst Sini Korpinen told AFP that, in a bid to keep the nationalists in opposition, a coalition between the leftist Social Democrats and the centre-right National Coalition appeared almost a certainty.

"It's very hard to see that the other parties would say no to working with the Social Democrats because then we would be in a situation with Halla-aho trying to form a government and I just don't see that happening," she said.

Political commentator Jeanette Bjorkqvist agreed.

"Rinne has been pretty clear that there are substantial ideological differences between the Social Democrats and the Finns Party. It would be astonishing to see them in the same government," she told public broadcaster YLE.

Korpinen predicted the Social Democrats would likely try to build a coalition with the National Coalition, the Greens, the far-left Left Alliance, and centrist Swedish People's Party.

"But the broad coalition Rinne will need to keep the Finns Party out will be difficult to manage and ineffective," Korpinen said.&nbsp;

Goran Djupsund, a political science professor at Abo Akademi University, said the outcome showed how rising populism across Europe was fragmenting and weakening political systems.

"A splintered political landscape makes it harder to build a government and nations become harder to lead," Djupsund said.

"When populists win, the EU also becomes hard to govern... then no one cheers, with perhaps the exception of our neighbour to the east," Russia.

Belts loosened

Much of the pre-election discussion centred around whether cuts to Finland's cherished welfare state and education system went too far.

Social Democrat leader Rinne has been a staunch opponent of the National Coalition's austerity policies over the past four years.

Meanwhile, Petteri Orpo, leader of the conservative National Coalition Party and co-architect of the government's savings programme, has repeatedly denounced the Social Democratic Party's anti-austerity plans as "irresponsible".

However, there are signs the two parties may be able to reach some agreement to restrict further belt-tightening, as Orpo has insisted that the economy is now strong enough to allow for some more generous public spending.

Rinne has said he aims to nail down a coalition deal and agree on a programme of policies for the next government by the end of May.

Finland eyes left-right coalition to keep populists out

After the emergence of the third front in Jammu and Kashmir, three political parties have come together to form a government in the state.&nbsp;

The development came a day after senior PDP leader Muzzafar Hussain Baig showed his willingness to join the Third Front, currently led by Sajjad Gani Lone of the People's Conference.

The coming together of the National Conference, the People's Democratic Party and the Congress, in what is seen as a <a href="http://www.wionews.com/india-news/bjp-pulls-out-of-alliance-with-pdp-in-kashmir-145468">grand alliance</a>, was announced by senior PDP leader Altaf Bukhari at his residence.&nbsp;

"All the three parties decided to join hands to defend the special status of the state, keeping in view the political situation and special status of the state," Altaf, who is seen as a front-runner for the chief ministerial chair, told WION in an exclusive chat.

He told WION that a formal announcement about the formation of the government would be made soon. "We have 60 MLAs to keep the communal forces away from the state and an alliance has been agreed," he said.&nbsp;

The alliance will also save the PDP from breaking as some of its senior members had rebelled against the party over a number of issues and were part of the Third Front which was emerging stronger by the day.&nbsp;

Backed by the BJP, the Third Front was emerging as an alternative to the traditional political parties which have ruled Kashmir for decades. But they don't have the numbers to prove their majority in the state assembly which is currently in suspended animation.

J&amp;K Governor Satya Pal Malik had earlier said that he wouldn't dissolve the assembly but there were no signs of any government formation.&nbsp;

Sources have told WION that several informal talks were held between the political parties over the joining of hands, adding that the aim of government formation was also to stop J&amp;K from slipping into the hands of Governor's Rule.

"Congress MLAs have submitted their written consent to the party for the formation of government," a source in the PDP told WION.&nbsp;

The National Conference has called for a core group meeting tomorrow with top leaders from the three regions of the Himalayan state. The Congress' J&amp;K-in-charge Ghulam Ahmad Mir has flown to Delhi to meet the party's top leadership over the issue while other members have been called on the 23rd to deliberate further.&nbsp;

Congress, PDP and NC to align, form next government in Jammu & Kashmir

The BJP on Wednesday observed a 'black day' against the Congress-JD(S) government headed by HD Kumaraswamy ahead of its swearing-in, and gave a call to the "sidelined" Congress leaders in the new coalition to join the saffron party.

The BJP warned that it would hold a statewide 'bandh' if the new coalition government fails to fulfill its election promises.

Addressing the party workers who had gathered in large numbers to stage a demonstration near the statue of Mahatma Gandhi at Anand Rao Circle, BJP state chief B S Yeddyurappa condemned the coalition government as "an opportunistic alliance."

"There is a farm loan of Rs 53,000 crore. You have said you will waive all the loans. Let us see whether you will actually waive all the farm loans. If you fail, we will observe a bandh all over the state," he said.

The state BJP chief said the Congress should immediately distance itself from the JD(S) or else the dream of Congress-free India will be a reality soon.

"Congress has lost its base in the state. With whom will the Congress go tomorrow? Will you go with Kumaraswamy?," said Yeddyurappa.

He also gave a call to Congress leaders, who felt offended for being sidelined in the new scheme of things in the coalition government, to join the BJP.

"Congress leaders must wake up. Those who felt cheated can come to BJP. If there is any party, which has faith in democracy, it is BJP. Let us build Karnataka as a model state. I flay this coalition government," said Yeddyurappa.

Slamming the BJP for observing the "black day", JDS leader Kumaraswamy said, "Having no concern for public is BJP's style of functioning. Their politics revolved around misleading people by organising events like black day, some kind of Yatra and fomenting passions. You cannot expect anything better from them."&nbsp;

Yeddyurappa had stepped down as Karnataka chief minister within three days of assuming office after failing to muster enough numbers, without facing the floor test on May 19.&nbsp;

The BJP had emerged as the single largest party with 104 seats in the assembly elections, with a fractured mandate.&nbsp;

With Yeddyurappa failing to take the floor test, the Congress and JD(S) claiming the support of 117 MLAs was invited to form the government by Governor Vajubhai Vala.

Former deputy chief minister R Ashok, MP Shobha Karandlaje and BJP leader Jaggesh also participated in the protest.&nbsp;

BJP observes 'black day' against JD(S)-Congress coalition govt

Karnataka chief minister-designate HD Kumaraswamy acknowledged on Tuesday that running the Congress-JD(S) coalition government over the next five years will be a "big challenge" for him.

"This is a big challenge in my life. I'm not expecting that I will be able to fulfil my responsibilities as chief minister easily," Kumaraswamy, who will be sworn in tomorrow, said.

Kumaraswamy, who was in Sringeri, the place where Adi Shankaracharya, exponent of the Advaita Vedanta philosophy, established his first matha, said he believed that things would go smoothly with the grace of Goddess Shardambe and the Jagadguru.

"People also have doubts, not only me, people in the state also have doubt whether this government will function smoothly. But I have belief that with the grace of Sharadambe and Sringeri jagadguru (Shankaracharya) everything will go smoothly," he told reporters.

Kumaraswamy today visited Sringeri Sharada temple and Dakshinamnaya Peetham established by Adi Shankaracharya.

He also paid obeisance at the famous Manjunathaswamy temple at Dharmasthala.

The official invitation for the oath-taking ceremony, meanwhile, indicated that besides Kumaraswamy, some others would be sworn in tomorrow. It said apart from the chief minister, the oath was to be administered to the council of ministers.&nbsp

Earlier reports had said only Kumaraswamy will take oath tomorrow, while the rest will be sworn in after the floor test on Thursday.&nbsp

After the fall of the three-day-old BJP government on May 19, governor Vajubhai Vala had invited Kumaraswamy, the leader of the Congress-JD(S) alliance, to form the government in Karnataka.

Congress president Rahul Gandhi, his mother and UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi, West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee, BSP supremo Mayawati, SP chief Akhilesh Yadav, Andhra Pradesh chief minister Chandrababu Naidu, his Telangana counterpart K Chandrasekhar Rao and several other regional leaders are likely to attend the ceremony

Running Congress-JD(S) coalition government will be a big challenge: Kumaraswamy

Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena on Tuesday urged his own coalition government and the opposition to end a power struggle in order to achieve ambitious goals including anti-corruption measures.

His comments came in a policy statement at the first session of the parliament since he suspended it last month after 16 of his party legislators defected from the government.

His coalition still has a majority, but the defections will dent its stability in parliament and affect its ability to pass key laws.

“..the power struggle among the parties in the national government as well as the power struggle between the government and the opposition must be contained. It is the people who are aggravated by all forms of conflicts over power,” Sirisena told the parliament.

The political parties led by Sirisena and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe formed a national government after the last parliamentary election in August 2015. But Sirisena’s centre-left party has opposed many liberal economic policy measures proposed by Wickremesinghe’s centre-right UNP.

Wickremesinghe survived a confidence vote last month sponsored by opponents who blame him for failing to prevent an alleged scam in the bond market and anti-Muslim riots in March.

Sirisena’s government is also under fire for not fulfilling his main 2015 election pledge to eliminate rampant corruption.

On Tuesday the government said it would establish special courts to speed up long delayed murder and corruption cases.

Meanwhile, Sirisena said that he has no plans to retire from politics in 2020. Refuting the media reports, Sirisena said that he will not retire in 2020 as more work needs to be done in the country, as reported by the Columbo Page on Tuesday.

While addressing a May Day rally (Labour Day rally) held at Mawadiwembu Ground, Chenkaladi Sri Lankan President said he will use the experiences he gained through the past three years in this regard and will join with honest politicians, who love the country and the people to achieve success in those programs.

He noted that there are certain social media sites which have published about his retirement in 2020.
