Why China is deploying drones on Shandong aircraft carrier

China said it has sent its naval missile destroyer Urumqi to the Gulf of Oman as part of CHIRU-2Q22 joint drills with the Russian and Iranian navies. The Chinese regime also sent helicopters and marines for the exercise, the country's foreign ministry said as the three countries look to "deepen practical cooperation".

Amid tensions with Taiwan, China's state-run Global Times reported that the country's navy launched major maritime drills at the start of the year. Chinese navy's "Lhasa" destroyer attached to the Northern Theater Command took part in exercise in the Yellow Sea from January 4 which is set to last for the next eight days.

According to reports, China sent an aircraft carrier battle group through the Pacific Ocean amid tensions with Taiwan. Japan's defence ministry had said China had sent the Liaoning aircraft carrier along with Nanchang destroyer including a supply ship.
