The Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir has witnessed a surge in terrorist attacks over the last few weeks with militants targeting locations in Kathua, Doda, Reasi, and Udhampur districts. The attacks resulted in the death of 15 people, including nine pilgrims and six members of the security forces.

Terrorists are attacking areas where road connectivity is poor so that it takes more time for the army to dispatch reinforcements.&nbsp;

Jammu and Kashmir Police have taken more than 20 suspects in custody following these attacks for interrogation and questioning. The probe into the attacks is still underway.

The Indian Army on Saturday organised a cricket tournament in Srinagar's Army Headquarters. Around 16 teams participated in the tournament from all the districts of Kashmir Valley. The Indian army has been continuously taking initiatives to engage youth in the valley in different sports and cultural activities.

Students from various schools participated in the tournament and thanked the Indian army for providing a platform to showcase their talent. The Indian army says that this tournament is the start of many such events. They will also be starting a female cricket tournament soon.&nbsp;

''We have 16 teams in total and have been organised by Chinar Corps Indian Army. All the matches, in the beginning, would be played in army headquarters, and later we will be playing in TRC grounds. We are continuously being approached by youngsters and schools to organise such cricket tournaments. A lot of schools and colleges are approaching us to organise these tournaments. IPL has many Kashmiris but they lack the platform, and we are trying our best to give them that platform. We will plan a football tournament and a special tournament with girls too. There is no positive engagement here with the youth, so many are involved in drug addiction, and we want them to stay away from drugs and play sports. We will also be organising a lot of cultural programmes too. A girl cricket tournament is in pipeline,'' said Abhishek Sahu, Major, Indian Army.&nbsp;

The local cricket coaches in the Valley have appreciated the initiative taken by the Indian army. The local coaches say that it will put the Kashmiri youngsters in the right direction.&nbsp;

Indian Army organises cricket tournament in Srinagar to increase youth engagement in activities

One of the most senior armymen in Kashmir has said that there has been a "positive response" <a href="https://www.wionews.com/india-news/jk-anyone-who-has-picked-up-a-gun-will-be-killed-says-indian-army-198231">after his last appeal to Kashmiri mothers</a> — that they not allow their sons to become militants.&nbsp;

The statement was made by Lt General KJS Dhillon, GOC of the Chinar Corps.

"Two militants were killed in yesterday's Shopian encounter... one was a technical graduate and had joined (the) outfit on April 3," the news agency ANI quoted &nbsp;Dhillon as saying.&nbsp;

"It takes me back to the point I've been repeating, my request to mothers of Kashmir, please don't let your children take this path," he added.&nbsp;

"You sent him for higher education but he dies days after joining the outfit. Is this the future of the youth of Kashmir? Are we working to see this day?" Dhillon said.&nbsp;

He added that "after my last appeal to mothers, there has been (a) positive response, boys are approaching us and (a) few have been rehabilitated".&nbsp;

Dhillon said that "this year, especially after Pulwama, we targeted (the) JeM leadership. Today I can assure (you), JeM leadership is non-existent in (the) Kashmir valley".&nbsp;

Dhillon had made his appeal to Kashmiri mothers after the February&nbsp;14 suicide attack on a security convoy in Pulwama that left <a href="https://www.wionews.com/india-news/crpf-convoy-attacked-in-jammu-kashmirs-pulwama-death-toll-climbs-to-40-197468">over</a><a href="https://www.wionews.com/india-news/crpf-convoy-attacked-in-jammu-kashmirs-pulwama-death-toll-climbs-to-40-197468"> 40 CRPF personnel dead</a>. One of the most senior armymen in Kashmir has said that there has been a "positive response" after his last appeal to Kashmiri mothers — that they not allow their sons to become militants. The statement was made by Lt General KJS Dhillon, GOC of the Chinar Corps. "Two militants were killed in yesterday's Shopian encounter... one was a technical graduate and had joined (the) outfit on April 3," the news agency ANI quoted Dhillon as saying. "It takes me back to the point I've been repeating, my request to mothers of Kashmir, please don't let your children take this path," he added. "You sent him for higher education but he dies days after joining the outfit. Is this the future of the youth of Kashmir? Are we working to see this day?" Dhillon said. He added that "after my last appeal to mothers, there has been (a) positive response, boys are approaching us and (a) few have been rehabilitated". Dhillon said that "this year, especially after Pulwama, we targeted (the) JeM leadership. Today I can assure (you), JeM leadership is non-existent in (the) Kashmir valley". Dhillon had made his appeal to Kashmiri mothers after the February 14 suicide attack on a security convoy in Pulwama that left over 40 CRPF personnel dead. The attack was claimed by the terror group Jaish-e-Mohammed.
