Guardian spoke to five Kenyan women who explained their misery, saying that they have been unable to register the birth of their children as they were born outside marriage.&nbsp;

They said that they all fled abusive employers who then kept their identity documents.&nbsp;

The women complained that they have been trying to leave the country as their children are unable to get enrolled in schools in Saudi Arabia without the documents. They added that they have also been told that exit visas cannot be processed because they have "stateless" children.&nbsp;

In Saudi Arabia, having sex outside marriage is a crime as per the Islamic laws. However, the human rights groups said that women are disproportionately charged for this since resulting pregnancies are considered evidence.&nbsp;

Moreover, survivors of rape or sex trafficking can be deemed to have confessed to extramarital sex and prosecuted.

Children born outside the marriage&nbsp;in Saudi Arabia are not entitled to birth certificates. Additionally, their undocumented status means that they cannot access basic rights and services, including medical care and education, and are also not allowed to travel outside the Kingdom.&nbsp;

These five women interviewed by Guardian shared that they had pregnancies during relationships with fellow migrant workers.&nbsp;

Hence, all these women became single mothers, meanwhile, some said that they were abandoned by their child's fathers because they feared getting arrested for having extramarital sex.&nbsp;

Fatima, a migrant from Kenya who came to Saudi Arabia to be a domestic worker, said staff at her nearest hospital in the Saudi capital Riyadh threatened to call the police when she rushed there with labour pains, the Guardian reported.&nbsp;

“They said they would send me to jail if I didn’t bring [the necessary] documents. I was so afraid to go to jail with labour pains. I pretended like I was strolling around the hospital. Then, I just walked out of the gate and went back to my house," she said.&nbsp;

Fatima entered her accommodation in Riyadh, and gave birth to a son just five minutes after that. "I cut the umbilical cord and cleaned myself. I cleaned my baby and wrapped him in a blanket. It was scary, but I just had to do it. There was nobody else to help me.”

She added that she ran away from her employer's home because he was sexually assaulting her and was physically abusive. Moreover, the employer also seized her passport.&nbsp;

Moreover, she said that she has been trying to leave Saudi Arabia for the past two years because her son, who has now turned eight, has been unable to go to school.&nbsp;

“The authorities here are not too concerned about the babies and their mothers,” Fatima said.&nbsp;

Earlier in April, Fatima also staged a public protest in the Manfuhah neighbourhood in Riyadh, along with a group of other migrant mothers. However, protests are illegal in Saudi Arabia and punishable by imprisonment.&nbsp;

“We want our kids to go to school. They’re missing a lot in their early childhood education. It’s very important, and our babies are missing that opportunity.”

Meanwhile, migrant rights experts have estimated that the number of cases of stateless children born outside marriage in Gulf countries is in thousands, adding that every child has a right to identity and protection, regardless of how and when they were born.&nbsp;

As per the survey, which was conducted in eight Indian cities, 73 per cent of parents and 69 per cent of children believe smartphone usage is a source of dispute between them.

When asked to design a phone for their parents, nearly 94 per cent of the children said it should include features like calling, camera, and messaging, leaving out games, social media, and entertainment apps, which their parents spend most of their time on.

While both groups recognise the negative impact of excessive usage of smartphones, children seem aware of the harmful effects. The survey suggests that 75 per cent of parents are worried about forming a meaningful relationship with their children but fail to notice how their own smartphone usage is also affecting their bond with kids.

At a single-day Senate committee, an advocate representing major social media platforms said that the Australian government should delay the laws which will ban children under the age of 16 from accessing the sites by at least one year, reported AP news agency.&nbsp;

The birth control pill somehow failed to stop the pregnancy and the father of the baby was not willing to take responsibility or provide any support.&nbsp;

For them, it is a momentous occasion, which will not just carve their future but will also substantiate the harsh decision of their families to leave a land which they once called "home".

Home - the word appears very familiar to a lot of people yet it may feel distant or hold a different meaning to some lives that&nbsp;are torn apart in the politics of the powerful.&nbsp;

Riots, political upheavals, natural calamities, coups, religious divides, conflict over land and the worst being the partition of a country, lead to scores of people losing their homes, families, relatives, identities, wealth, future and motherland.&nbsp;

To these displaced souls, home is perhaps a dream long lost in the war and feud of the politically learned. Unlike the latter, they do not understand borders, divisions and limitations between humans. To them, the world is a place to live and not one of war.

And so to live, these little girls - who come from Pakistani Hindu refugee families - are finding their own roots in the soil of Rajasthan which is where these families have found shelter and are now building what we know as "home".

The girls, donning hues of Rajasthan - red, black, blue and yellow - sing the folk song on the glory of land "Dharti dhorari", as if praising it for keeping them safe in its sand dunes-filled lap.&nbsp;

The children’s participation at the fest was executed by Sewa Nyaya Utthan Foundation. Incidentally, the organisation’s founder, Sanjeev Newar, is an alumnus of IIT himself. Newar told Wion, “We did it because this event will inspire every child in the refugee community.”&nbsp;

But what made them take the drastic decision? "My uncle was murdered by some Muslim and no one heard our pleas, that was the point when we felt we didn't belong to Pakistan and shifted here," he speaks to WION while keeping his gaze at her sister, whose mellifluous voice flows through the hall and keeps the audience captivated.

But for Aarti's father, Dehraj, the biggest relief is that his daughter now can travel freely across states without any fear of facing any consequences.&nbsp;

"In Pakistan, we were afraid even if our daughters stepped out of the houses but now my girl is performing so far from us, but I know she is safe and is getting all opportunities to build her future," the girl's father chuckles as his moist eyes recall the days of hardship when even this land was not a home but just a mere land where he did all menial jobs and endured extreme pain to feed his family.

Leaving your house and migrating to a different country comes at a high cost.&nbsp;

The case was the same for Dehraj, who sold his land at an extremely low price somehow and ran from Pakistan after he saw his brother getting tagged as "kafir" (a term used for disbelievers of God in Islam) and dying just for demanding taxi fares from Muslim passengers.&nbsp;

"In Pakistan, if you have to live as a Hindu, you will have to keep your eyes, ears and mouth shut, or else be prepared to lose your house, property and lives," Dehraj warns as his bloodshot eyes scream out his agonies.&nbsp;

For Mehtab Ram, father of Reshma, it was the dark future of his children in Pakistan which made him change his motherland and seek shelter in India.&nbsp;

"Reshma is our family's only hope and this is because we are in India," Mehtab stutters amid the wailing of his other children.

The hardships and nightmares of these refugees continue to follow them like a dark shadow in the present times but it is the Citizenship (Amendment) Act of 2019 which has now become their torchbearer as they tread ahead in the future.&nbsp;

CAA is giving them what they need the most - their identity and their right to call India their "motherland" while allowing them to slowly axe their past relationship with Pakistan.

"CAA has benefitted us a lot. Almost my entire family has got their nationalities. The application for the rest of them is under process. This has proved fruitful to all who have come from Pakistan," says Dehraj, while speaking to WION.

It's not just these girls who have emerged as a ray of hope for the families but also the son of Dehraj, Dileep, who aims to become a journalist and ensure that the voices of the underprivileged and uprooted reach the world.

Ukraine on Saturday announced a probe into alleged sex crimes at a state children's home after the country's rights ombudsman visited and decried a lack of official action.

Ukraine has more than 51,000 children living in residential care, of whom 78 per cent have disabilities, according to a report this month by UNICEF.

Since Moscow's invasion in 2022, thousands of children in care have been evacuated to Russia.

The case concerns a state home in the western Lviv region housing 57 children with special educational needs and disabilities, five of whom reported abuse, Iryna Suslova, a representative of the Ombudsman for Children's Rights, told AFP.

"We recorded children's testimonies that the director of the facility had sexually assaulted female residents, publicly humiliated them, and threatened to beat them and place them in a psychiatric hospital," Lubinets said.

This is the first twin study of genetic and environmental contributions to the developmental trajectory of FF from toddlerhood to early adolescence, and stability and change over time, said the study whose lead authors are Zeynep Nas and Moritz Herle. 
 
The study found genetics, or specifically DNA, to be the top factor behind food fussiness.&nbsp;

"Genetic variation in the population explained 60 per cent of the differences in pickiness at 16 months, rising to 74 per cent and more from three to 13 years old," it said.

Individual differences in fussy eating, it said, were largely explained by genetic factors at all ages.&nbsp;

"Fussy eating also shows a significant proportion of environmental influence, especially in toddlerhood, and may, therefore, benefit from early interventions throughout childhood," it added.

Police this week rescued 402 children and youths in raids carried out at 20 premises that they said were operated by Islamic conglomerate Global Ikhwan Services and Business (GISB).&nbsp;

GISB has said they did not run the homes and denied allegations of sexual abuse at the properties. A GISB spokesperson said on Friday the firm had yet to be summoned by police.&nbsp;

Inspector-General of Police Razarudin Husain said 172 of those rescued have undergone physical and mental health screenings, with many showing old and new injuries as well as indications of emotional trauma and stunted growth.&nbsp;

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said on Friday he instructed authorities to investigate without delay and take swift action against GISB should any misconduct be found, state news agency Bernama reported.&nbsp;

Of 171 people arrested during the raids, 159 have been detained pending investigation, while others were found to have been minors and released, Razarudin said.&nbsp;

Four men and one woman are being investigated in connection with the sodomy cases, he added.&nbsp;

<h2>Link to banned sect</h2>

Razarudin said police would call up GISB's board for questioning and did not discount the possibility of further arrests or raids on premises linked to the group. He did not say when they would be summoned, citing pending investigations.

The firm, which has been linked to a banned Islamic religious sect in Malaysia, is involved in businesses ranging from supermarkets to laundromats with operations in 20 countries, according to its website.

The group has acknowledged its links to the now-defunct Malaysia-based Al-Arqam religious sect, which was banned by the government in 1994, but now describes itself as an Islamic conglomerate based on Muslim practices.

Razarudin said the minors were mostly third or fourth-generation GISB members, whose parents worked for the company and would abandon their children at ages as young as two.

"We found examples of children whose parents worked in Saudi Arabia for six years, but their kids remain here... this is a form of neglect, abuse, and exposure," he said, adding some had not seen their parents in years.&nbsp;

He said authorities screened 392 children who were being held in police facilities, while those who were sick or with special needs had been transferred to the welfare department and health ministry for further care. &nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;

Razarudin said the probe may be expanded to include allegations of cheating and money laundering, and urged potential victims to come forward.&nbsp;

The research was presented at the 2024 European Respiratory Society Congress. They divided 51 children aged between 2 and 18 into two groups, who were hospitalised for pneumonia.&nbsp;

During their stay, one of the groups included four 15-minute visits from a medical clown from the Dream Doctors Project. The clowns did various activities like singing, music, and guided meditation.&nbsp;

It was found that the group visited by clowns remained in the hospital for 43.5 hours and needed 2 days of IV antibiotic treatment, on average. The second group who were not visited by the clown stayed for 70 hours on average and needed 3 days of IV antibiotics. Other parameters like heart rate and inflammation were also lower in the group visited by clowns.

“While the practice of medical clowning is not a standardised interaction, we believe that it helps to alleviate stress and anxiety, improves psychological adjustment to the hospital environment and allows patients to better participate in treatment plans like adherence to oral antibiotics and fluids,” explains Yaacoby-Bianu.
