When probed further, the filmmaker clarified that Kamal Haasan's look for Supreme Yaskin was not inspired by Lord Voldemort. However, he revealed that Harshith Reddy's character Luke was taken from the popular Star Wars character, Luke Skywalker.

"We grew up watching Marvel films. I would say Guardians of the Galaxy was more of an influence than Iron Man. Definitely, Star Wars is a huge influence. I love Star Wars, so that is subconsciously a part of my aesthetic," Ashwin told Zoom.

We didn't have many movie references for that ancient look," Ashwin added.

A long-awaited showdown will take place this week in a historic Wild West frontier town, with both sides seeking justice for a fatal bullet fired from a six-shooter. But if Alec Baldwin's trial for manslaughter sounds like the plot of a Hollywood movie, the victims, the stakes and the tragic consequences are all too real.

In October 2021, on the New Mexico set of his low-budget Western "Rust," a gun pointed by Baldwin discharged a live round, killing the film's cinematographer and wounding its director. Such is Baldwin's A-list fame and the rarity of on-set deaths in the tightly controlled US film industry, the story quickly became a global sensation.

It also polarized opinion, with sympathetic observers viewing Baldwin -- an actor who did not know the prop gun contained a real bullet -- as a victim, and others seeing the death as a result of his allegedly reckless behaviour.

Almost three years later, after multiple failed attempts by Baldwin's formidable New York legal team to have the case thrown out, those same arguments will be settled by a jury at a court case in Santa Fe starting on Tuesday.

If found guilty, Baldwin faces a maximum 18 months in prison -- the same term already being served by the film's armorer, who was convicted in the same courthouse earlier this year.

- 'Basic gun safety' -

The death of Halyna Hutchins occurred during a rehearsal in a small chapel on the Bonanza Creek Ranch, 20 miles (30 kilometers) outside Santa Fe, on a sunny afternoon mid-way through the filming of "Rust."

Baldwin was practicing a scene in which his character, an aging outlaw who has been cornered in the church by two marshals, draws his Colt gun.

The actor says he did not pull the revolver's trigger and had been told that the gun was safe. Live bullets are in any case banned from movie sets, and Baldwin has argued that it was not his responsibility as an actor to check.

Yet the gun did go off. And the trial of Hannah Gutierrez, the armorer who loaded the weapon, revealed many of the arguments that the prosecution will level against Baldwin, who was also a producer on the movie.

At the time, Gutierrez's defense lawyers said Baldwin "violated some of the most basic gun safety rules you can ever learn," including never pointing a gun at a person unless you intend to fire it. "Alec Baldwin's conduct and his lack of gun safety inside that church on that day is something that he's going to have to answer for," said special prosecutor Kari Morrissey, in a rare moment of agreement between the two sides.

"Not with you and not today. That'll be with another jury, on another day," Morrissey said.

- 'No control' -

That day has now arrived, with jury selection on Tuesday and opening arguments expected Wednesday. That the matter is being heard in court at all is already a victory of sorts for prosecutors, who have fended off multiple attempts by Baldwin to have the case dismissed.

Among these, Baldwin's lawyers said damage to the gun caused by an FBI testing lab meant the actor could not get a fair trial.

That is significant because the FBI found the gun could not have fired without its trigger being pulled -- a conclusion that the defence say they were robbed of a chance to disprove.

Judge Mary Marlowe Sommer was not convinced and ordered the trial to proceed.
Baldwin's team have also suggested that his status as a celebrity and liberal darling has provided incentives for prosecutors to pursue him with unusual tenacity.

The prosecution's response to recent pre-trial proceedings offered further insight into how they are likely to attack Baldwin in court.

Court filings allege that Baldwin's unpredictable behaviour contributed to the tragedy and that he kept changing his story in its aftermath.

"Mr Baldwin was frequently screaming and cursing at himself, at crew members or at no one and not for any particular reason," Morrissey wrote.

"To watch Mr Baldwin's conduct on the set of 'Rust' is to witness a man who has absolutely no control of his own emotions and absolutely no concern for how his conduct affects those around him."

The trial is expected to take around 10 days.

You must have heard of brisk walk or jogging, but have you ever heard of fart walk? Well, the latest fitness TikTok trend is for everyone who struggles with bloating, indigestion, gas, heartburn and other digestive problems.

Fart walk, coined by Toronto-based cookbook author Mairlyn Smith, is exactly what it sounds like - a post-meal stroll you must take to release intestinal gas and improve digestion. After a high-fibre meal, a quick walk around your garden or your balcony can do wonders for your health, says Smith.

In a TikTok video, the author shared that she and her husband head out every night 60 minutes after dinner for their fart walk. "Now, why do we do this? Well, we eat a lot of fibre, so we have gas—everybody does—and, yeah, you fart while you walk. So that’s why I named it that."

Wondering if it actually works or not? Well, according to several studies and experts, a post-meal walk helps the digestive system, also known as the gastrointestinal (GI) tract, break down food and absorb nutrients. In simple words, it is a little exercise for your GI tract.

Here's how fart walking improves digestion!

Better gut motility
Walking helps propel food through the GI tract more efficiently, according to a journal titled Diabetes, Metabolic Syndrome and Obesity. Studies also suggest that fart walks speed up gastric emptying, the process of moving food from the stomach to the small intestine.

Improved blood sugar levels
American Diabetes Association suggests that 30-minute walks every day can regulate blood sugar levels and help those with type 2 diabetes or insulin resistance.

Bloating
A major cause for bloating is gas buildup and fart walk can help release the trapped gas. Walking also creates internal pressure in the stomach and helps with the release of gas.

Things to remember!

Start walking about 40 to 60 minutes after eating.

Take it slow and easy. Don't walk fast as it can cause discomfort.

Drink plenty of water after the walk and hydrate yourself.

Walk for at least 20 to 30 minutes to get the best results.

On the day of the wedding, Sonakshi shared adorable pictures from the intimate wedding ceremony and penned a loved-up note for her husband. She wrote, "On this very day, seven years back (23.06.2017) in each others eyes, we saw love in its purest form and decided to hold on to it. Today that love has guided us through all the challenges and triumphs… leading up to this moment… where with the blessings of both our families and both our gods… we are now man and wife."

We are just two weeks into the popular reality show Bigg Boss OTT 3 and things have already started heating up inside the BB house. In today's Weekend Ka Vaar episode, YouTuber Armaan Malik's first wife Payal Malik, who got evicted last week, will be seen returning to the show for a brief moment. What's the purpose? Well, she has entered the BB house to slam contestant Vishal Pandey for making lewd comments about Armaan's second wife Kritika Malik.

Payal slammed Vishal for telling Lovekesh Kataria that he likes Kritika and he feels guilty about it. Payal said, "You're talking about a mother and a wife, and you need to respect that. What you said about Kritika is wrong."

In his defence, Vishal said that his comments were taken out of context and that he did not mean anything wrong. To which, Payal responded that he shouldn't have whispered the same in Lovekesh's ears if he wasn't guilty.

After Payal left, Armaan went to Vishal to ask for clarification. As Lovekesh repeated what Vishal said, Armaan lost his calm and he tightly slapped Vishal on his left cheek. The two were later seen shouting and charging at each other as other housemates tried to break their fight.

It has been one year since singer Madonna overcame a life-threatening illness and she is clubbing the celebration of the same during the Fourth of July celebrations. On Thursday, she took to Instagram to look back on her “miraculous recovery” from a serious infection that left her hospitalised for days.

"Happy 4th of July! A year ago today, I had just come home from the hospital after surviving a life-threatening illness, I could barely stand in my backyard holding one sparkler,” the singer wrote. “I made a miraculous recovery and had an amazing year. Thank you God. Life is beautiful!”

Back in June last year, Madonna was in the intensive care unit for several days over what her manager Guy Oseary said at the time was “a serious bacterial infection.” She was placed in a medically induced coma for four days and she had to pause her Celebration tour for several months until last October.

“It’s called a near-death experience, and I’m not kidding, it was pretty scary,” the singer told a crowd of fans during a concert in Los Angeles this past March. “Obviously, I didn’t know for four days because I was in an induced coma, but when I woke up, the first word I said was, ‘No.’ Anyway, that’s what my assistant tells me.”

Following her health scare, Madonna has encountered several lawsuits related to her Celebration tour. In recent months, concertgoers at multiple shows have sued both the singer and promoter Live Nation, citing delayed start times.

Emma Roberts, the actress and former child star, has expressed her deep dismay after watching the docuseries Quiet on Set: The Dark Side Of Kids TV. The 33-year-old star shared her reaction in an interview, describing her feelings of being “horrified and shocked” by the disturbing revelations of child abuse from former Nickelodeon stars.

“I was completely horrified and shocked because that was not my experience,” Roberts told Variety. “It made me really, really, really sad that that was happening to people that I literally saw often and had no idea.”

Roberts, who starred in her own Nickelodeon show Unfabulous from 2004 to 2007 starting at age 13, reflected on her positive experiences working with the network. She highlighted the supportive environment created by her showrunner, Sue Rose, and the constant presence of her mother on set as key factors in her protection.

“The showrunner we had was this amazing woman named Sue Rose. And I didn’t realize at the time, but a female showrunner back then was not very common,” she said. “But that was my intro into working on a TV show. Also, my mom was with me 24/7, and even I would be like, ‘You don’t have to be here all the time,’ she was like, ‘I do actually. I’m not letting you out of my sight. You’re not going to a fitting by yourself when you’re 13 years old.’”

Roberts expressed profound sadness for her peers who experienced abuse, emphasizing the need for better protections for children in the industry. “I just feel like children need to be protected on sets, as do adults, and I feel like we’re working towards a better work environment in that sense. But yeah, that documentary really kept me up at night,” the actress said.

Quiet on Set: The Dark Side of Kids TV reveals troubling accounts from several former child actors who experienced a toxic culture and abuse on children’s television shows in the late 1990s and early 2000s, many of which were produced by Dan Schneider. Among the disturbing allegations are claims by actor Drake Bell, who spoke about being sexually assaulted by a Nickelodeon dialogue coach, and accusations of sexism against Schneider by two female writers from The Amanda Show.

In 2018, an internal investigation into these abuse allegations led to Schneider's departure from Nickelodeon, though he has denied any misconduct.

In a statement released in March, Nickelodeon addressed the alleged behaviours on past production sets, emphasising their commitment to maintaining a safe and professional workplace.

“Though we cannot corroborate or negate allegations of behaviours from productions decades ago, Nickelodeon as a matter of policy investigates all formal complaints as part of our commitment to fostering a safe and professional workplace environment free of harassment or other kinds of inappropriate conduct,” the network stated.

“Our highest priorities are the well-being and best interests not just of our employees, casts and crew, but of all children, and we have adopted numerous safeguards over the years to help ensure we are living up to our own high standards and the expectations of our audience."

A magistrate Wednesday charged prominent film director Benoit Jacquot for allegedly raping actors Julia Roy and Isild Le Besco, prosecutors said, in a high-profile MeToo case that has rocked France. The charges come after a flurry of allegations against several men in the French filmmaking industry, which critics say has too long provided cover for abuse.

Jacquot, 77, and another filmmaker, 80-year-old Jacques Doillon, were detained for questioning on Monday over alleged sexual abuse of much younger actresses who starred in their films, charges both have denied.

Investigators opened a probe after Judith Godreche, 52, earlier this year filed a complaint against Jacquot for allegedly raping her during a relationship of several years that started in the 1980s, when she was 14 and he was 25 years her senior.

After two days of questioning, prosecutors did not request charges linked to Godreche's accusations because they were past the statute of limitations, she and her lawyer said.

But they did in the case of Roy, 34, and Le Besco, 41. Roy, who acted in four of Jacquot's films that came out between 2016 and 2021, had accused Jacquot of sexual assault. Le Besco had accused him of rape during a toxic relationship that began when she was a minor and he was 52.

An examining magistrate charged Jacquot with raping Roy during a relationship in 2013, the Paris prosecutor's office said.

They also charged him with "rape of a minor" against Le Besco between November 1, 1998, and November 21, 2000, the Paris prosecutor's office said. She would have been 15 at the start of this period.

- 'Judicial cancellation' -

Jacquot was also to be investigated over the alleged rape of Roy between 2014 and 2018 and Le Besco in 2007, the prosecutor's office said. He will be released from custody but remain under judicial supervision, preventing him from getting in touch with plaintiffs and witnesses, or carrying out any activity "linked to minors", it added. He could not work as a film director or make public appearances as such.

His lawyer Julia Minkowski said she would appeal the decision. "More than a professional ban, it is a real measure of judicial cancellation, on the basis of an embryonic investigation and before any judgement," she said.

A source close to the case said Jacquot has answered the questions of investigators but denied all charges.
Roy's lawyer, Margot Pugliese, said the charges against Jacquot were "important" for her client, whose state of post-traumatic stress she described as "profound".

Le Besco's attorney, Benjamin Chouai, said he was happy "the judiciary had got the exact measure of the criminal acts" suspected.

- Another director released -

The other director, 80-year-old Doillon, was released on Tuesday evening "for medical reasons", the prosecutor's office said, adding it still had to decide on follow-up measures. This came despite mounting accusations against him.

Godreche had accused Doillon of sexually assaulting her during a film shoot when she was 15, when the filmmaker was in a relationship with British actress and singer Jane Birkin. Le Besco had claimed he made advances during work sessions, and another actor, Anna Mouglalis, 46, alleged the filmmaker forcefully kissed her in 2011.

Lawyer Laure Heinich, who has been representing Godreche, told AFP she had also filed a complaint against Doillon on behalf of a non-binary trans person identified as Joe Rohanne for three alleged rapes, as well as physical and psychological abuse.

Newspaper Le Monde reported that complaint as well as that of two other women against Jacquot, accusing him of rape and attempted rape respectively. Doillon's attorney declined to comment.

- 'Heard' -

Godreche said on Instagram that she felt "heard" after prosecutors sought charges against Jacquot, even though her own case did not yield any. Godreche has become a leading voice in France's MeToo movement since she spoke out.

After she appealed for a cinema oversight body, French lawmakers in May voted to create a commission to investigate sexual and gender-based violence in the cultural sectors. Rare cases have advanced through the judicial system.

After a long wait of over four years, Mirzapur 3 has finally arrived! And as expected, it is full of violence, carnage, gore and guns. But the big question is - Did it live up to the fans' expectations? Without Munna bhaiya (played by Divyenndu) and with limited appearance of Kaleen bhaiya (played by Pankaj Tripathi), the third season of the crime-thriller web series has fallen flat, according to early audience reviews on X, formerly Twitter.

"Mirzapur must stop at season 3. Third season is decent but you do get a sense of excess," a fan wrote, with another adding, "Mirzapur Season 3: Worst ever sequel made. Disappointed!!
Superstar rapper and music industry mogul Sean Combs has been sued by a former adult film star for sexual assault and sex trafficking, court filings showed. Combs is the target of several civil lawsuits that characterize him as a violent sexual predator who used alcohol and drugs to subdue his victims, and his homes were raided this year by federal agents.

The hip-hop artist, known as both Puff Daddy or Diddy, used actress Adria English as a "sexual pawn for the pleasure and financial benefit of others" during his lavish "White Parties" in the Hamptons and Florida between 2004 and 2009, the complaint alleges.

The latest lawsuit, filed in Manhattan on Wednesday, brings to nine the number of claims against Combs since November 2023.

"Given all the brave individuals who have come forward against Defendant Combs, (English) is doing the same," the complaint said.

English is seeking a jury trial and undisclosed damages, according to her complaint.

"Due to these numerous lawsuits filed against Defendant Combs alleging the same or similar acts, there is now a growing awareness that Defendant Combs was engaging in far more sinister acts than previously known including physical abuse and sex trafficking," the complaint says.

In March armed agents entered Combs' sprawling luxury properties in Miami and Los Angeles, a heavily publicized bicoastal operation that suggested an investigation into the rapper is underway.

Disturbing surveillance video emerged in May showing Combs physically assaulting his then-girlfriend Casandra Ventura, corroborating allegations she made in a now-settled lawsuit late last year.

Ventura sued Combs in federal court last fall, a bombshell suit that was settled out of court but succeeded by a string of similarly lurid sexual assault claims against the hip-hop star.

Combs has vehemently denied all accusations against him. His lawyer did not immediately respond to an AFP request for comment on the latest lawsuit.

Yash Raj Films has officially revealed the title of its first female-led spy film, which will star Alia Bhatt and Sharvari in lead roles. Hinting at what's in store for the fans, the makers revealed via social media posts that the movie, titled Alpha, is about two girls who are quick, courageous and always the first in every situation. This is a direct attack by YRF at the societal misrepresentation that only men can be alphas. The title announcement teaser starts with Alia broadening on the title's meaning. In Hindi, she says, "Greek alphabet ka sabse pehla akshar, aur hamari program ka motto. Sabse pehle, sabse tez. Sabse veer. Dhyan se dekho toh har sahar mein ek jungle hein. Aur jungle mein humesha raaj karega… Alpha," which translates to, "The first letter of the Greek alphabet, and the motto of our program. First, fastest and most courageous. If you look carefully, there is a jungle in every city. And the one who will reign in the jungle is Alpha." While sharing the teaser clip, Alia wrote in the caption, "It’s the time of the #ALPHA.. Girls!" Check it out below!
Aamir Khan's son Junaid Khan, who recently made his acting debut in the Netflix film Maharaj, recently revealed that he auditioned for his father's Laal Singh Chaddha, however, it "didn't work out". The Advait Chandan directorial was a remake of the 1994 American film Forrest Gump and also starred Kareena Kapoor Khan, Naga Chaitanya and Mona Singh.

In a candid conversation with ETimes, Junaid said, "I had actually auditioned for Laal Singh Chaddha which Papa has talked about publicly, but it didn't work out. Papa (Aamir Khan) was very keen that I do the film."

The Maharaj director Siddharth P Malhotra added that Junaid auditioned for the role of protagonist, Laal Singh Chaddha. “It was this audition that Adi ( Aditya Chopra) and I saw, and what an audition that was… it was outstanding and if that clip can be released at some point in time, it would be great,” the director said.

Junaid played the role of Karsandas Mulji in Maharaj. The film revolves around the historic 1862 Maharaj Libel Case. Directed by Sidharth P Malhotra and produced by Yash Raj Films (YRF) Entertainment, the film also features Jaideep Ahlawat and Shalini Pandey.

WION's review of Maharaj reads, "Debutant Junaid Khan gets an impressive character to play but is very average throughout the film. Even if one ignores the fact that he is the son of one of the most formidable actors of our generation, Khan never manages to leave a defining impact with his role. There are certain moments in the film where the young actor shows promise, especially a scene outside JJ's Haveli (a sacred temple area) where he places a photo of Lord Krishna under a tree and urges people to continue with their prayers even if JJ has shut doors and access to the main sanctum area. But overall, Junaid's performance, much like the film's implementation is strictly passable."
Two men suspected of illegal night hunting close to Oprah Winfrey's Hawaiian estate have been arrested, according to reports. The incident unfolded shortly before midnight on June 21, according to a press release from the Department of Land and Natural Resources' Division of Conservation and Resources Enforcement (DOCARE), issued on Monday, July 1.

The suspects, identified as Luke Allen and Ty Munoz, both 19-year-old residents of Upcountry Maui, were taken into custody after officials observed them allegedly using a spotlight for hunting purposes. A subsequent investigation led to the discovery of a loaded shotgun and a loaded rifle inside their vehicle.

"This happened near the intersection of Thompson Road and Kamaʻole Road, in the Kula area of Upcountry Maui," the press release stated. "Thompson Road is a public road that runs through private property owned by the Oprah Winfrey Ranch."

Authorities further allege that Allen and Munoz were hunting without valid licenses, carrying ammunition in the vehicle, and trespassing on private land without permission, all during nighttime hours. Additionally, the rifle found in Allen’s possession was reportedly unregistered.

Both individuals were booked at the Maui Police Station in Wailuku and now face a slew of charges. Munoz was arrested and booked for possession of a loaded firearm, hunting without a license, illegal night hunting on private property, and using artificial light for hunting. "Thompson Road is a public road that runs through private property owned by the Oprah Winfrey Ranch." Authorities further allege that Allen and Munoz were hunting without valid licenses, carrying ammunition in the vehicle, and trespassing on private land without permission, all during nighttime hours. Allen faces similar charges, with an additional count for possessing unregistered firearm equipment. A spokesperson for Winfrey's Harpo Inc. later clarified to People that the arrests did not occur on Winfrey's property but nearby.

After more than a decade of superheroes saving the world on the movie screen, Eddie Murphy is bringing back the character he describes as "every man." Murphy returns as Axel Foley in "Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F," a new instalment in the action comedy franchise that debuted 40 years ago in 1984. The movie lands on Netflix, on Wednesday.

"For 10-15 years, everything was CG (computer-generated), big visual effects and superheroes and people saving the day wearing capes and tight suits," Murphy said in an interview.

"I knew eventually it would have to get back to this," he added. "It used to be stuff was character-driven and story-driven and that's going to always work."

In the new film, the wise-cracking Foley is working as a detective in Detroit when he learns his estranged daughter is in danger in Beverly Hills. He returns to the city to reconnect with her and help solve a case. Foley "is not Superman," Murphy said. "He's every man, every guy who doesn't play by the rules. He's the kind of guy you want to have a beer with."

The movie - the fourth in the franchise and the first since 1994 - aims to capture the look and feel of the original without modern special effects. The action takes place through real-life stunts such as a harrowing helicopter chase across Los Angeles.

"What was more difficult was all the physical stuff," Murphy said. "I'm in my 60s now and I did the first one (at) 21 years old, so you can imagine the differences." Previous stars Judge Reinhold and John Ashton reprise their roles in the film. Newcomers include Kevin Bacon and Joseph Gordon-Levitt.

Bacon said he liked the old-school stunts in the new movie, saying he believed it was hard to impress today's audiences with computer-generated effects.

"If you put a truck driving and it knocks the door off a cop car, and you see Joe in the middle saying 'there's no seatbelt', that's like, to me, that's a wow," Bacon said. "That's much more satisfying, I think, for people now because I think we're just kind of numb to all the other stuff."

Murphy said there had been attempts over the years to resurrect the franchise but none of the scripts had the "emotional hook" of the storyline between Foley and his now-adult daughter.

"The movie is really about this father reconciling with his daughter," Murphy said. "Once we added that to it, everything just fell into place. That's the glue that holds the whole movie together."
