Warner Bros Chairman and Chief Executive Kevin Tsujihara has resigned from one of Hollywood`s most powerful studios following a report that he improperly helped an actress obtain roles at the studio. 
 
"It is in the best interest of WarnerMedia, Warner Bros, our employees and our partners for Kevin to step down as Chairman and CEO of Warner Bros," WarnerMedia CEO John Stankey said in a statement on Monday.&nbsp; 
 
Tsujihara`s departure from the AT&amp;T Inc-owned studio follows a March 6 report in the Hollywood Reporter that an actress had sought his help in landing roles after they had sex. The report included text messages between Tsujihara and the actress.&nbsp; 
 
Tsujihara`s attorney said at the time that the executive did not have a direct role in the hiring of the actress in any movie. Tsujihara did not address the matter in an email to employees on Monday, seen by Reuters.&nbsp; 
 
"It has become clear that my continued leadership could be a distraction and an obstacle to the company’s continued success," he said in the email. "The hard work of everyone within our organization is truly admirable, and I won’t let media attention on my past detract from all the great work the team is doing."&nbsp; 
 
Stankey said the company will continue to work with an outside law firm to complete its investigation into the matter.&nbsp;

SAG-AFTRA, which represents 160,000 actors, and management from ABC, CBS, NBC and Fox reached a tentative agreement on a three-year contract that also includes an array of pay increases, the guild said in a statement. The deal is subject to approval by the guild's board of directors next month.

The networks and union agreed to language similar to that from the union's own Guideline No. 1, issued in April, which called for an end to auditions, interviews and similar professional meetings in private hotel rooms or at private residences.

SAG-AFTRA President Gabrielle Carteris said at the time the goal was to eliminate the potential for "predators to exploit performers behind closed doors under the guise of a professional meeting."

The so-called casting couch has long been used by men seeking sexual favors from actresses in exchange for parts.

The measures followed the industry outrage that resulted from news reports that numerous women accused Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein of sexual misconduct. Weinstein denied the allegations.

The Weinstein reports led to a wave of accusations against high-profile men in politics, the media and show business, transforming the U.S. conversation about sexual harassment and assault.

Women told stories about how they had been harassed using the #MeToo hashtag on social media.

The scrutiny of Weinstein led to criminal charges against the producer last month. On June 5, Weinstein pleaded not guilty in Manhattan Supreme Court to charges of rape and sexual assault based on allegations from 2004 and 2013.

US actors, TV networks agree to end casting couch

Actors Sonam Kapoor and Swara Bhaskar today refrained from commenting on veteran choreographer Saroj Khan's remark on casting couch in Bollywood.&nbsp;

Congress leader and former Member of Parliament Renuka Chowdhury on Tuesday made a claim on the alleged culture of ‘casting couch’ that has often brought the Indian film industry under attack.&nbsp;

"It is not just in the film industry. It happens everywhere and it is the bitter truth. Don't imagine that Parliament is immune or other workplaces are immune to it. It is time that India stood up and said #MeToo," Chowdhary said.

Earlier in the day, &nbsp;Veteran choreographer Saroj Khan has defended the casting couch culture, saying the Indian film industry “at least” provided jobs and did not abandon women after raping them.

In comments that come in the wake of the #MeToo campaign which calls out sexual offenders, Ms Khan put the onus on the woman and said the casting couch was not a new phenomenon with “anyone and everyone”, including people in the government, indulging in it.

The 69-year-old choreographer made the remarks in response to a question from a journalist in Sangli on Telugu actor Sri Reddy stripping in protest against the casting couch culture in the Telugu film industry.

"This is going on from 'Baba Adam's times', it is not new. Someone or the other always try to take an advantage of a girl. The government officials do it too, then why are we only behind the film industry? It provides livelihood at least," she said.

"Does not rape and leave you. It is up to the girl, what she wants to do. If you don't want to fall into wrong hands, you won't. If you are talented, why would you sell yourself? Don't blame the film industry's name, it is everything to us, she added."

Further putting her view forward, she said as to why would anyone want to sell herself if she is confident about her talent.

Dressed in a red jumpsuit, Priyanka Chopra looked every bit of a superstar as she took center stage to speak at Penguin Annual Lecture on Tuesday evening in the capital. The actress spoke about breaking the glass ceiling and how she chased her dream and became a successful global star.

While the night was mostly about how her successful career and she being able to challenge a whole lot of stereotypes, the conversation also veered towards the raging issues of this year- the Padmavati row and the &#39;Me Too&#39; movement.

Priyanka mostly played safe while commenting on the issues and even explained that why Indian celebrities choose to keep mum about such things.

When a senior journalist prodded her to comment on the controversy around the release of Padmavati, PC stated that she supported Sanjaya Leela Bhansali and Deepika Padukone and hoped that the film would release. &ldquo; I did call them up and speak to them,&rdquo; Priyanka said and added, &quot;I hope that the film releases. And can be viewed by everyone else.&rdquo;

When she was asked why she chose not to make a statement publicly on the issue, Priyanka said, &ldquo;Because I as an individual feel used when my quote is run as a ticker on news channels. Have you not seen? The polarisation that happens not just in terms of religion but gender as well in this country- why are such questions asked to only actors and not to government authorities and politicians? What can an actor do to change what&rsquo;s happening in the country? I am as much a member of this civil society as you.&rdquo; Priyanka was referring to the whole anti-National debate that had ensued in 2016 against Shah Rukh Khan and Aamir Khan for commenting on the polarisation that has taken place in the country.

&ldquo;I can have an opinion but I should not be pushed to a corner and made a scapegoat for it,&quot; the actress said.

When she was reminded how in Hollywood, actresses have come forward to speak out on issues- Priyanka said that there is a cultural difference in America which allows one to speak out. &ldquo;Meryl Streep could speak out against Trump because that&rsquo;s how the culture is. In India, we are very different. There are certain cultural boundaries here and we must respect that.&rdquo;

The actress also believed that the &lsquo;Me Too&rsquo; movement did not just cater to Americans but had an impact globally. Did she ever face anything similar here in India? &ldquo;I am very feisty. People get scared of me,&rdquo; the actress said but admitted, &ldquo;Yes I have been thrown out of films because someone else has been recommended. A girlfriend of the actor or the director was recommended instead- that&rsquo;s an abuse of power. I couldn&rsquo;t do anything about it because I did not have the power nor did I cater to the whims and fancies of certain powerful men, so I did lose out on projects.&quot;

The actress pointed out that often women who have faced sexual harassment cannot speak out because they do not have enough support. &ldquo;I urge such women to have someone who can stand with them at corner and give them strength to speak out.&rdquo;

Closer home, Swara Bhaskar has now joined in the discussion and expressed how both men and women are vulnerable to harassment at workplace in India.&nbsp;

In an interview with Mumbai Mirror, Swara Bhaskar recalled how a director had stalked her on a film set during her initial days in the film industry. &quot;During a 56-day outdoor shoot at a remote location when I was still fairly new, the director harassed me with texts and dinner invites. He stalked me during the day and called me through the night. I was asked to go to his hotel room on the pretext of discussing a scene and would find him drinking. During the first week itself, he started talking about love and sex, and one night, he arrived in my room, drunk and asking to be hugged. It was scary!&rdquo; 
 
Things settled down for a bit when Swara threatened to leave the film set. But she got only a temporary respite as he went back to his ways. &quot;I finally confided in the executive producer and made sure that I was escorted everywhere,&quot; said the actress.&nbsp; 
 
According to Bhaskar, film sets often work in feudal, hierarchical ways making conditions on the sets ripe for sexual harassment. &quot; Victims can be easily silenced,&rdquo; she added.&nbsp;Women are often eve-teased on films sets and cat-calling is also prevalent. &quot;There is lack of security for women on film sets.&quot; 
 
According to Swara the best way to deal with such harassment is to &quot;lose the part but don&#39;t get on the couch.&quot;&nbsp;Swara is currently shooting for Veere Di Wedding which also co-stars Sonam Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor.&nbsp;
