India has been named as the official 'Country of Honour at the upcoming Marche` Du Film, which is organized alongside the Cannes Film Festival, in France. 
 
Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting Anurag Thakur will lead the delegation from India to Cannes. The list of celebrities will also comprise stars from major music industries across India. 
 
The delegation will include actor-producer R Madhavan, Akshay Kumar, music composer AR Rahman, actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Pooja Hegde and Nayanthara along with CBFC Chief Prasoon Joshi, filmmaker Shekhar Kapur and music composer Ricky Rej amongst others. 
 
At a time when India is celebrating the 75th year of its independence and has launched 'Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav', India and France are also celebrating 75 years of their association as is the annual Cannes Film Festival. 
 
Among the highlights of this year's festival will be the world premiere of the film by R Madhavan titled 'Rocketry: The Nambi Effect' a biographical drama film based on the life of Nambi Narayanan, a former scientist and aerospace engineer of the Indian Space Research Organisation who was falsely accused of espionage.&nbsp; 
 
The film which is produced by Madhavan will be showcased on May 19. 
 
India has also been given an opportunity to pitch 5 selected movies at the 'Goes to Cannes Section'. These films are part of the WIP lab under the Film Bazaar. A Cinema Hall called the Olympia Screen has been dedicated to India on May 22, 2022, for screening 'Unreleased Movies'. There are 5 Movies which have been selected under this category. Also, a remastered classic of Satyajit Ray Classic - 'Pratidwandi' will be screened at the Cannes Classic section. This is to mark his centenary celebration.

The outlet reported that the filmmaker is considered a dissident and earlier this year, before leaving the country, he had been targeted by Moscow and held under house arrest. 
 
"We would like to salute the courage of all those in Russia who have taken risks to protest against the assault and invasion of Ukraine," read the festival's statement on March 1, as per The Hollywood Reporter. 
 
The outlet also noted that open opposition to Russian President Vladimir Putin's regime has become both difficult and dangerous for Russian journalists because of the harsh new censorship laws.&nbsp;

Having his biopic premiere at Cannes would be a special moment for the octagenarian aerospace scientist, who spent a considerable period of his professional life in France, working to co-develop an advanced rocket engine. From 1974 to 1980, a team of 100 Indian scientists(in different batches), led by Nambi Narayanan, were in Vernon, France to jointly develop the 60-ton-thrust Viking-3 Engine, under a pact. The development of this engine was an exponential level-up for India, where the space programme was then in the very nascent stage.&nbsp;

'Elvis' is headed to Cannes. Baz Luhrmann's ambitious film 'Elvis' will premiere at the upcoming Cannes Film Festival in May.&nbsp; 
 
The Australian director, screenwriter and producer Baz Luhrmann will present the world premiere of his film along with Tom Hanks, Austin Butler and Olivia DeJonge. 
 
According to the Cannes festival, the film "explores the life and music of `The King` Elvis Presley (Austin Butler), seen through the prism of his complicated relationship with his enigmatic manager, Colonel Tom Parker (Hanks). The story delves into the complex dynamic between Presley and Parker spanning over 20 years, from Presley's rise to fame to his unprecedented stardom, against the backdrop of the evolving cultural landscape and loss of innocence in America. Central to that journey is one of the most significant and influential people in Elvis's life, Priscilla Presley." 
 
'Elvis', produced by Bazmark and The Jackal Group, will be released by Warner Bros in North America on June 24, and in the rest of the world from June 22. 
 
Filmmaker Baz Luhrmann had made history in Cannes by being the only filmmaker to have two feature films open the Cannes Film Festival; `Moulin Rouge!` in 2001 and 'The Great Gatsby' in 2013.
