<p>The details of the registered two FIRs and ten complaints against Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chief and BJP MP Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh have been revealed. As per the accessed document at New Delhi’s Connaught Place Police Station, Brij Bhushan Singh had asked for sexual favours from the female wrestlers and also inappropriately touched a minor. &nbsp;</p>

<p>As per the document, there are ten complaints of the WFI chief touching female wrestlers in a sexually offensive manner, including minors, despite being repeatedly asked not to do so.</p>

<p>Police, in a statement to the media, said while these complaints against Brij Bhushan got registered on April 21st, the two FIRs were lodged against him seven days later on April 28th. Those FIRs are under four sections - 354, 354(a), 354(d) and 34, which accounts for a three-year term behind bars.</p>

<p>In the two FIRs, the first one got registered by six Olympic wrestlers, while second one mentions the allegations levelled by the father of a minor. In that one, she revealed the WFI Chief held her shoulders tightly and even touched her inappropriately on the pretext of getting a photo clicked with him. In her complaint, she also stated that she had asked Brij Bhushan Singh not to follow her afterwards.</p>

<p>The wrestlers, meanwhile, were protesting at New Delhi’s Jantar Mantar for the arrest of the WFI chief over alleged sexual assault. While the ongoing tussle with Delhi Police painted a sorry picture for these medal winners, the farmers' outfits from nearby states in Uttar Pradesh, Haryana and Punjab carried protests in their support.</p>

<p>On Thursday, the farmers' outfits from Uttar Pradesh held a ‘Khap Maha Panchayat showing solidarity with these protestors.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Meanwhile, BJP’s Union Leader, Rakesh Tikait, during the congregation in Soram village in Uttar Pradesh’s Muzaffarnagar, also said they had decided on meeting the President Droupadi Murmu and will then hold another maha panchayat in Haryana’s Kurukshetra on Friday to discuss next steps.&nbsp;</p>

<p>However, the Union Sports Minister, Anurag Thakur, said the ruling government is handling the issue 'sensitively', and that they had agreed to the wrestlers’ earlier demands.</p>

<p>“The wrestlers asked for an FIR, which has been filed by Delhi Police. A committee of administrators has been set up by the WFI as they demanded that its office bearers shouldn't be allowed to function," Thakur told reporters during a visit to Mumbai.</p>

<p>Farmer leader Rakesh Tikait said, "We have taken a decision that Govt must address the grievances of wrestlers and he (Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh) should be arrested otherwise we will go with wrestlers to Jantar Mantar, Delhi on June 9 and will hold panchayats across the nation."&nbsp;</p>

<p>An official said on Friday that the district administration has denied permission to Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, who has been accused of sexual harassment, to hold a rally here on June 5. But Singh said he postponed the 'Jan Chetna Maharally' at the Ram Katha Park for "a few days" due to the ongoing police probe into the wrestlers' allegations against him.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Circle Officer (Ayodhya) SP Gautam said in view of the events scheduled on World Environment Day on June 5, a request by BJP councillor Chamela Devi on behalf of Singh seeking permission for the rally was turned down.&nbsp;</p>

<p>In a Facebook post, Singh said, "My dear well wishers! With your support, I have served as a member of the Lok Sabha for the last 28 years. I have tried to unite people of all castes, communities and religions, while being in the ruling party or in opposition. It is for these reasons that my political opponents and their parties have levelled false allegations against me."&nbsp;</p>

<p>"In the present situation, some political parties are trying to disturb the social harmony by promoting provincialism, regionalism and caste conflict by holding rallies at various places," Singh said.</p>

<p>Indian wrestlers' protest against Wrestling Federation of India (WFI)'s chief Brij Bhushan Singh&nbsp;for alleged sexual harassment has been making the headlines for quite long. Their protest has extended to over a month and seems to be far away from getting close to a conclusion. On Sunday (May 28), Bajrang Punia, Vinesh Phogat, and Sakshi Malik-led protesting wrestlers marched towards the new parliament, when it was being inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, to demand justice but were stopped by the Delhi Police.</p>

<p>It led to a huge chaos just a few kilometres away from the new parliament, which made headlines. Images of wrestlers being detained by the police saddened many in the country. Amid all this, some pictures were also circulated on social media platforms which showed the wrestlers smiling after being detained by the cops.</p>

<p>Bajrang Punia has now reacted to all such images and said 'IT cell people' are spreading this false picture.&nbsp;He shared two images, one fake and the other being a genuine one saying, "IT cell people are spreading this false picture. We make it clear that a complaint will be filed against whoever posted this fake picture."</p>

<h2><strong>UWW joins in, comes in support of protesting wrestlers</strong></h2>

<p>On Wednesday (May 31), the United World Wrestling (UWW) also reacted to the ongoing protest&nbsp;being held at&nbsp;Jantar Mantar in the national capital. It further issued a warning to the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) asking to conduct the elections within the next 45 days. In addition, the international body slammed the speed of investigation in the charges levelled by WFI's member athletes against Brij Bhushan Singh.</p>

<p>"UWW firmly condemns the treatment and detention of the wrestlers. It expresses its disappointment over the lack of results of the investigations so far. UWW urges the relevant authorities to conduct a thorough and impartial investigation into the allegations," UWW said.</p>

<p>"UWW will request further information about the next elective general assembly from the 10A and the Ad-hoc Committee of the WFI. The 45-day deadline that was initially set to hold this elective assembly shall be respected. Failing to do so may lead UWW to suspend the federation, thereby forcing the athletes to compete under a neutral flag. It is reminded that UWW already took a measure in this situation by reallocating the Asian Championship planned in New Delhi earlier this year."</p>

<p>"For several months, United World Wrestling has followed with great concern the situation in India where wrestlers are protesting over allegations of abuse and harassment by the President of the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI). It has taken due note that the WFI President has been put aside at an early stage and is currently not in charge," UWW further asserted.</p>

Phogat, who has been vocal in criticising those in power amid the protest against Brij Bhushan on sexual harassment accusations, claimed that Thakur tried to suppress the matter by forming a committee.</p>

<p>Addressing the media, Olympian Phogat said on Tuesday (May 02), "It is very difficult to stand against a person who is misusing his power and position for so long. Three-four months before we sat at Jantar Mantar, we met an official, we told him everything that how women athletes are sexually harassed and mentally tortured. When no action was taken, then we sat on dharna."</p>

<p>She further asserted, "We ended our protest after talking to Union Sports Minister (Anurag Thakur), and all the athletes had told him about the sexual harassment. By forming a committee, he tried to suppress the matter there; no action was taken at that time."</p>

<p>The likes of Bajrang, Sakshi Malik, Vinesh, etc., have led the protest, held in the national capital after as many as&nbsp;seven female&nbsp;wrestlers --&nbsp;grabbed&nbsp;eyeballs and become a huge talking point nationwide.</p>

<p>The SC had earlier stated that it would hear the plea made by the seven wrestlers after the latest round of protest began at the Jantar Mantar in Delhi. After the fresh protests, the BJP MP released a video saying he would wish to embrace death the day he feels helpless.</p>

The continent event, which was earlier slated for March 28th to April 2nd window in India's capital, will now be held from April 7th to 15th, the wrestling’s governing body said adding the final dates will be confirmed soon.</p>

<p>"UWW was forced to change the host of the continental championships due to the recent developments in Indian wrestling and a pending inquiry by the Indian sports ministry against the Wrestling Federation of India," the UWW said in a statement.</p>

Acting immediately on this, the former BCCI president Anurag Thakur-led ministry held a meeting with the wrestlers assuring strict actions against the accused pending further investigation into the matter.</p>

<p>As a result, Brij Bhushan was sacked from his position then and there while a new committee was formed on January 23rd, chaired by former Olympic medalist Mary Kom to inquire the allegations laid by the wrestlers and were asked to submit a report within four weeks. Later, on past Thursday, the committee extended the deadline by further two weeks.</p>

<p>In the past,&nbsp;Astana in Kazakhstan also hosted the 2019 World Championships in addition to hosting the Asian Championships in 2021.</p>
