BMC elections 2026 saw a big turnout speciallly from the Bollywood fraternity. However, some of the big names like Amitabh Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol and Madhuri Dixit skipped voting on Thursday.

Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections are underway in Mumbai. Akshay Kumar, Twinkle Khanna, Gulzar and Suniel Shetty were some of the early voters on Thursday morning at various polling booths across Mumbai.

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) will be roped in to develop an AI tool for identifying illegal Bangladeshi and Rohingya migrants in the metropolis, and to study the city’s topography to work out a drainage plan.

CM Devendra Fadnavis said the new alliance is between two parties that have lost their identity. He added that the Thackeray cousins have lost their vote bank by doing politics of appeasement and their coming together will have no impact.

The move is being seen as a potential game-changer in Mumbai’s fiercely contested civic battle. The alliance aims to consolidate the Marathi vote in Mumbai and challenge the ruling Mahayuti alliance led by the BJP, Eknath Shinde–led Shiv Sena, and Ajit Pawar–led NCP.
