People gathered in a California town on Wednesday to protest against the police shooting of an urmed black man who was reportedly mentally ill.

Alfred Olango, 30, was shot in the San Diego suburb of El Cajon on Tuesday. The police had received a call about a man behaving erratically and walking in the streets.

El Cajon police chief Jeff Davis said Olango had ignored repeated calls by officers to remove his hand from his pocket. The officers felt threatened as the man took a &#39;shooting stance&#39;. An officer fired a taser at Olango while the other used his weapon.

&quot;At one point, the subject rapidly drew an object from his front pants pocket, placed both hands together and extended them rapidly toward the officer taking up what appeared to be a shooting stance,&quot; Davis said in a statement. &quot;At this time, the officer with the electronic control device discharged his weapon. Simultaneously, the officer with the firearm discharged his weapon several times, striking the subject.&quot;

A bystander&#39;s Facebook live video recorded the woman saying that she called 911 for help with her mentally ill brother.

&quot;You guys came and killed my brother,&quot; the woman wails in the video that had been viewed 82,000 times by Wednesday morning.

&quot;I called you guys to help my brother. You killed my brother in front of me.&quot;

Following the shooting, several people gathered at the scene Tuesday night chanting &quot;black lives matter&quot; and &quot;hands up, don&#39;t shoot,&quot; AFP reported. Olanga&#39;s sister also participated in the protest rally.

Olanga was an immigrant from Uganda who was working as a cook, The Washington Post reported his friends as saying.

Davis promised transparency in the investigation while the residents have called on the police to release the video footage of the incident. He said that the two officers involved in the shooting have been placed on administrative leave.

This will be looked at by multiple sets of eyes, and not just ours,&quot; said.

A &quot;Justice for Alfred Olango&quot; protest was planned on Wednesday in front of the El Cajon police station, AFP said.

Protests after unarmed African-American man shot dead by US police in El Cajon

A female police officer in the southern US city of Tulsa in Oklahoma was charged on Thursday with manslaughter for fatally shooting an African-American man last week.&nbsp; 
 
A warrant has been issued for officer Betty Shelby&#39;s arrest over the death of 40-year-old Terence Crutcher, the Tulsa county district attorney was quoted as saying by international news agency Reuters.&nbsp; 
 
The incident that has yet again raised questions of racial bias in US policing was captured by dashboard cameras and a police helicopter.&nbsp; 
 
In the video, Crutcher can be seen with his hands up, leaning against his car. He falls to the ground after getting shot by the police officer.&nbsp;

According to AFP, the Tulsa district attorney&#39;s chief investigator, Doug Campbell, has said in a court filing that the 40-year-old was shot when he was trying to reach into his car&#39;s driver&#39;s side front window. The lawyer representing the Crutcher family held a <a href="https://theintercept.com/2016/09/20/video-shows-terence-crutcher-not-reaching-car-shot-lawyer-says/">press conference</a> where he displayed zoomed-in pictures from the video footage to show that the driver&#39;s window was closed. 
 
Campbell said: &quot;Officer Shelby reacted unreasonably by escalating the situation from a confrontation with Mr Crutcher, who was not responding to verbal commands and was walking away from her with his hands held up, becoming emotionally involved to the point that she overreacted.&quot;&nbsp; 
 
According to CNN, the confrontation started after a 911 call on Friday from a woman who informed that &nbsp;&quot;an abandoned car was blocking the street and a man was running away&quot;.&nbsp; 
 
The caller reportedly insisted that the man warned that it was going to blow up.&nbsp; 
 
The CNN report further points out that Shelby was the first officer to arrive on the scene, though she was not responding to the 911 call. Her attorney has been quoted as saying by CNN that she was on her way to a domestic violence call when she saw Crutcher. 
 
The chief invesitgator further pointed out on Thursday that Shelby claimed she had been &quot;in fear of her life&quot; during the confrontation.&nbsp;However, no weapons were recovered from the site of the incident. It&#39;s been established that Crutcher was unarmed.&nbsp;Crutcher later died at a hospital from a single gunshot wound to the chest.&nbsp; 
 
Following the latest development, the victim&#39;s twin sister, Tiffany Crutcher, has applauded the quick action of the district attorney.&nbsp; 
 
&quot;We will stay vigilant as this process moves forward and join the others, peacefully, in demanding greater accountability and transparency from law enforcement,&quot; she told reporters.&nbsp;&quot;We&#39;re demanding full prosecution. We want a conviction.&quot; 
 
The Department of Justice has opened a federal civil rights probe, parallel to the investigation being carried out by local authorities. &nbsp; 
 
The incident has triggered largely peaceful protests in Tulsa, however, unlike in Charlotte, North Carolina, where protests in response to another police kiling an African American man have seen violence.&nbsp; 
 
A group of activists, We the People Oklahoma, took to Twitter on Thursday afternoon ahead of the planned protests, and asserted that &quot;lot more needs to be done&quot;. <a href="http://www.newson6.com/story/33163826/we-the-people-oklahoma-pleased-with-charges-in-crutcher-shooting">News On 6</a> says the grassroots organisation drew a large crowd Thursday evening, calling for &quot;action and policy changes&quot;. Organisers say they&#39;re &quot;pleased&quot; that Officer Shelby was charged only six days after the incident. 
 
&quot;It just feels good that we have people being peaceful, and it feels good that we&#39;re not trying to cause any chaos, cause a riot. We&#39;re trying to be peaceful as possible, but at the same time it takes time to heal,&quot; Trevon McLemore said.

US police officer charged for shooting unarmed African-American in Tulsa

In&nbsp;the&nbsp;recent fatal encounter between a US&nbsp;police officer and an African-American man, the evidence against the police is very damning. Footage from later-released two police cameras majorly contradicts the initial claims made by the Tulsa Police Department. A full investigation has been promised, but here is what&#39;s known so far.

Terence Crutcher, a 40-year-old pastor and a father of four, was driving home from a music appreciation class at Tulsa&nbsp;Community College when his car stalled. His car was idling&nbsp;the centre line,&nbsp;the driver&#39;s door was open. Betty Shelby was the first officer on the&nbsp;scene.&nbsp;This&nbsp;was&nbsp;7:40&nbsp;pm,&nbsp;Friday,&nbsp;September 16. Officer Shelby had been dispatched for a completely separate call, and just happened to come upon the stalled vehicle. 
 
Officer&nbsp;<a href="http://www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2016/09/20/terrence-crutcher-walked-to-police-for-help-they-shot-him-dead.html">Shelby</a> is a decorated officer hired in 2011 after working in the county sherrif&#39;s office for four years. She is&nbsp;a field trainer&nbsp;and is&nbsp;married to another officer. She has twice been accused&nbsp;of using <a href="http://heavy.com/news/2016/09/betty-jo-shelby-tulsa-oklahoma-police-officer-cop-terence-crutcher-photos-pictures-shooting-video-charlton-sanders-holycross/">excessive force</a>&nbsp;(both times were reportedly determined to be unfounded). 
 
Officer Shelby did not turn on her siren, so her dash cam wasn&#39;t activated. There is no footage of the first&nbsp;two minutes of her encounter with&nbsp;Crutcher.&nbsp;But she called for back up,&nbsp;claiming&nbsp;Crutcher &quot;never makes any response&quot; to her. The&nbsp;dashcam footage from&nbsp;this&nbsp;second police car, as well as from a police helicopter flying above, is what shows&nbsp;Crutcher had his hands up&nbsp;and never made any sudden movements in the moments leading up to his death.

Four officers are on the scene. One of the&nbsp;back up officers, Tyler Turnbough, deploys his Taser. Right at the same time, Officer Shelby fires what is the fatal shot into his chest, and Crutcher collapses in a pool of blood. 
 
The police and the Crutcher family&#39;s&nbsp;attorney&nbsp;issued&nbsp;contrasting&nbsp;claims about what occured, and also about some of the facts colouring the interpretation of the incident. ? 
 
The police initially&nbsp;claimed&nbsp;that Crutcher had been reaching into his car, against&nbsp;police orders.&nbsp;But the family&#39;s attorney has since held a press conference showing&nbsp;a&nbsp;<a href="http://ktul.com/news/local/terence-crutchers-family-calls-news-conference-to-discuss-new-developments-in-case">zoom-in</a> from the police cam that shows&nbsp;blood on the driver&#39;s window, which he says proves that the window of the car was closed when&nbsp;the fatal shot was fired. One <a href="http://www.nydailynews.com/news/national/king-arrest-tulsa-officer-killed-terence-crutcher-article-1.2798021">eyewitness </a>who spoke to Fox 23 in Tulsa&nbsp;contradicts the police&#39;s narrative entirely. The video seems to support&nbsp;this.&nbsp; 
 
Crutcher was unarmed,&nbsp;police found no weapon inside his car.&nbsp;It&#39;s worth repeating:&nbsp;Crutcher&nbsp;was not even&nbsp;suspected of a&nbsp;crime. His car had simply stalled when police happened to pass him. Yet these police killed him. 
 
Overheard from the police helicopter is audio indicating&nbsp;Crutcher was not a threat. &quot;He&#39;s got his hands up there for now,&quot; said the officer, who pretty incredibly is believed&nbsp;to be the husband of Officer Shelby. He is then recorded saying what will undermine his wife&#39;s near-future statement:&nbsp;&quot;This guy is walking and following commands.&quot;&nbsp;Despite Crutcher&#39;s evident compliance,&nbsp;an unknown officer in the same helicopter is soon heard saying:&nbsp;&quot;That&nbsp;looks like a bad dude.&quot; 
 
How is it that one cop saw a man obeying&nbsp;police, while the other, looking at&nbsp;the exact same person, saw an&nbsp;apparent&nbsp;threat? Terence Crutcher was a&nbsp;pastor and&nbsp;father of four, with his hands and fingers in the air. But&nbsp;one cop, from the distance of a&nbsp;helicopter flying overhead, seemed to just see&nbsp;a physically large, black man and&nbsp;deemed him &quot;bad&quot;.&nbsp; 
 
From the police side, Officer Shelby claims to have believed that Crutcher was&nbsp;high on PCP, or angel dust, a drug that can make&nbsp;users aggressive. She had&nbsp;recently undergone drug-training recognition, and believed he was acting erratically, her attorney told the <a href="http://www.tulsaworld.com/news/local/police-say-pcp-found-in-vehicle-occupied-by-terence-crutcher/article_d965a1f2-072b-57bf-a682-6b1cfb22b246.html">Tulsa World</a>. ABC reports that Shelby claims to have believed that she thought Crutcher was attempting to retrieve a weapon when she thought he was reaching into the car. In an interview with homicide detectives, her lawyer relates that Officer Shelby&nbsp;said, &quot;I was never so scared in my life as in that moment right then.&quot;&nbsp; 
 
But, again, the&nbsp;video&nbsp;shows a compliant man with&nbsp;his hands&nbsp;up. Also, Crutcher couldn&#39;t have been reaching in the car if the window was up. Maybe Officer Shelby&#39;s memory was foggy because this was surely a rattling experience, or maybe she was consciously trying to change the narrative so the killing appears to have mitigating circumstances.&nbsp;

Tulsa Police sgt Dave Walker said the cops found a vial of PCP inside the car, but declined to say where in the car it was found, and did not&nbsp;determine&nbsp;whether or not&nbsp;Crutcher was under the influence of it.&nbsp;Toxicology reports have not confirmed what is even in the vial.&nbsp;&quot;If they did find it,&quot; said Tiffany Crutcher, Terence&#39;s&nbsp;twin sister, &quot;it was after he was shot and murdered.&quot; She added that discovering drugs is not justification for using lethal force. His car&nbsp;stalled; police&nbsp;had no reason to search his car, let alone shoot and kill him. 
 
Local, state and federal investigators will run an investigation, and as per protocol officer Shelby is on paid administrative leave. But&nbsp;an unarmed man accused of no crime was killed, and the&nbsp;discrepency between the initial police accounting of the incident with the later released video and physical&nbsp;evidence appears&nbsp;impossible to reconcile.&nbsp; 
 
But it&#39;s&nbsp;wrong to think that evidence this strong against the police will fundamentally change mainstream American opinion.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 
Protests to police killing 
 
African Americans have protested against&nbsp;police brutality for decades, but, for some people, smartphones and police camera documentation has made what once seemed&nbsp;impossible to believe now impossible to deny. But, to put it lightly, this is not true&nbsp;for everyone.&nbsp; 
 
Probably&nbsp;the most high-profile protest of African American deaths at the hands of police apart from the Black Lives Matter movement&nbsp;is that of&nbsp;Colin Kaepernick,&nbsp;an NFL quarterback who&nbsp;since the football pre-season&nbsp;has refused to stand up for the singing&nbsp;of the American national anthem. He has sat down or taken a knee instead.&nbsp;

He has received support on social media, and from fellow NFL players and from other athletes. But more than galvanising,&nbsp;Kaepernick has received hate mail,&nbsp;death threats, and boos from thousands everytime he touches the football. This is just the start.&nbsp;In Miami, the union that represents the Sherrif&#39;s office&nbsp;called on the department to stop providing Miami Dolphin players security detail, after four Dolphin players&nbsp;knelt during the anthem in solidarity with Kaepernick. Several&nbsp;<a href="http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3768174/NFL-executives-hate-Colin-Kaepernick-call-traitor-believe-unlikely-play-pro-ball-again.html">NFL executives</a> call Kaepernick a traitor, and&nbsp;reportedly hate him&nbsp;even more than a player who is currently in jail for plotting to murder his girlfriend. This protest has apparently put&nbsp;his professional career in jeopardy. 
 
Kaepernick justified his&nbsp;protest&nbsp;thusly:&nbsp;&quot;I am not going to stand up to show pride in a flag for a country that oppresses black people and people of colour.&nbsp;To me, this is bigger than football and it would be selfish on my part to look the other way. There are bodies in the street and people getting paid leave and getting away with murder.&quot; 
 
Since Kaepernick began protesting one month ago, at least <a href="http://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/colin-kaepernick-police-killings_us_57e14414e4b04a1497b69ba6?">16&nbsp;African American</a> men have been killed with encounters&nbsp;police, including Crutcher. 
 
Why do so many&nbsp;value&nbsp;an American song more than&nbsp;American lives? Why is kneeling during a song a bigger outrage than actual people dying? 
 
NFL Super Bowl champion Richard Sherman refused to answer questions at a press conference Wednesday evening, and instead explained Kaepernick&#39;s stand:

It might seem puzzling that there&#39;s such&nbsp;mass fury directed at a black man&#39;s&nbsp;peaceful, non-disrupive protest against&nbsp;innocent Americans&nbsp;killed by&nbsp;officials who are sworn to protect them. Kaepernick&#39;s gesture was&nbsp;so quiet and inconspicuous nobody even noticed it for weeks.&nbsp;Anyway, most fans use the singing of the national anthem at football games&nbsp;as a time to piss or buy beer.&nbsp; 
 
But racism isn&#39;t sensible. Neither is the automatic connection many make between the national anthem and the military, rather than a vast range of other American values or qualities. In the recent fatal encounter between a US police officer and an African-American man, the evidence against the police is very damning. Footage from later-released two police cameras majorly contradicts the initial claims made by the Tulsa Police Department. A full investigation has been promised, but here is what's known so far. Terence Crutcher, a 40-year-old pastor and a father of four, was driving home from a music appreciation class at Tulsa Community College when his car stalled. His car was idling the centre line, the driver's door was open. Betty Shelby was the first officer on the scene. This was 7:40 pm, Friday, September 16. Officer Shelby had been dispatched for a completely separate call, and just happened to come upon the stalled vehicle. Officer Shelby is a decorated officer hired in 2011 after working in the county sherrif's office for four years. She is a field trainer and is married to another officer. She has twice been accused of using excessive force (both times were reportedly determined to be unfounded). Officer Shelby did not turn on her siren, so her dash cam wasn't activated. There is no footage of the first two minutes of her encounter with Crutcher. But she called for back up, claiming Crutcher "never makes any response" to her. The dashcam footage from this second police car, as well as from a police helicopter flying above, is what shows Crutcher had his hands up and never made any sudden movements in the moments leading up to his death. [Warning: this video is graphic ] Four officers are on the scene. One of the back up officers, Tyler Turnbough, deploys his Taser. Right at the same time, Officer Shelby fires what is the fatal shot into his chest, and Crutcher collapses in a pool of blood. The police and the Crutcher family's attorney issued contrasting claims about what occured, and also about some of the facts colouring the interpretation of the incident. ? The police initially claimed that Crutcher had been reaching into his car, against police orders. But the family's attorney has since held a press conference showing a zoom-in from the police cam that shows blood on the driver's window, which he says proves that the window of the car was closed when the fatal shot was fired. One eyewitness who spoke to Fox 23 in Tulsa contradicts the police's narrative entirely. The video seems to support this. Crutcher was unarmed, police found no weapon inside his car. It's worth repeating: Crutcher was not even suspected of a crime. His car had simply stalled when police happened to pass him. Yet these police killed him. Overheard from the police helicopter is audio indicating Crutcher was not a threat. "He's got his hands up there for now," said the officer, who pretty incredibly is believed to be the husband of Officer Shelby. He is then recorded saying what will undermine his wife's near-future statement: "This guy is walking and following commands." Despite Crutcher's evident compliance, an unknown officer in the same helicopter is soon heard saying: "That looks like a bad dude." How is it that one cop saw a man obeying police, while the other, looking at the exact same person, saw an apparent threat? Terence Crutcher was a pastor and father of four, with his hands and fingers in the air. But one cop, from the distance of a helicopter flying overhead, seemed to just see a physically large, black man and deemed him "bad". From the police side, Officer Shelby claims to have believed that Crutcher was high on PCP, or angel dust, a drug that can make users aggressive. She had recently undergone drug-training recognition, and believed he was acting erratically, her attorney told the Tulsa World. ABC reports that Shelby claims to have believed that she thought Crutcher was attempting to retrieve a weapon when she thought he was reaching into the car. In an interview with homicide detectives, her lawyer relates that Officer Shelby said, "I was never so scared in my life as in that moment right then." But, again, the video shows a compliant man with his hands up. Also, Crutcher couldn't have been reaching in the car if the window was up. Maybe Officer Shelby's memory was foggy because this was surely a rattling experience, or maybe she was consciously trying to change the narrative so the killing appears to have mitigating circumstances. It's worth repeating: Crutcher was not even suspected of a crime. His car had simply stalled when police happened to pass him. Yet these police killed him. Tulsa Police sgt Dave Walker said the cops found a vial of PCP inside the car, but declined to say where in the car it was found, and did not determine whether or not Crutcher was under the influence of it. Toxicology reports have not confirmed what is even in the vial. "If they did find it," said Tiffany Crutcher, Terence's twin sister, "it was after he was shot and murdered." She added that discovering drugs is not justification for using lethal force. His car stalled; police had no reason to search his car, let alone shoot and kill him. Local, state and federal investigators will run an investigation, and as per protocol officer Shelby is on paid administrative leave. But an unarmed man accused of no crime was killed, and the discrepency between the initial police accounting of the incident with the later released video and physical evidence appears impossible to reconcile. But it's wrong to think that evidence this strong against the police will fundamentally change mainstream American opinion. Protests to police killing African Americans have protested against police brutality for decades, but, for some people, smartphones and police camera documentation has made what once seemed impossible to believe now impossible to deny. But, to put it lightly, this is not true for everyone. Probably the most high-profile protest of African American deaths at the hands of police apart from the Black Lives Matter movement is that of Colin Kaepernick, an NFL quarterback who since the football pre-season has refused to stand up for the singing of the American national anthem. He has sat down or taken a knee instead. Colin Kaepernick kneels in protest during the singing of the Star Spangled Banner. He is joined here by teammate Eric Reid. He has received support on social media, and from fellow NFL players and from other athletes. But more than galvanising, Kaepernick has received hate mail, death threats, and boos from thousands everytime he touches the football. This is just the start. In Miami, the union that represents the Sherrif's office called on the department to stop providing Miami Dolphin players security detail, after four Dolphin players knelt during the anthem in solidarity with Kaepernick. Several NFL executives call Kaepernick a traitor, and reportedly hate him even more than a player who is currently in jail for plotting to murder his girlfriend. This protest has apparently put his professional career in jeopardy. Kaepernick justified his protest thusly: "I am not going to stand up to show pride in a flag for a country that oppresses black people and people of colour. To me, this is bigger than football and it would be selfish on my part to look the other way. There are bodies in the street and people getting paid leave and getting away with murder." Since Kaepernick began protesting one month ago, at least 16 African American men have been killed with encounters police, including Crutcher. Why do so many value an American song more than American lives? Why is kneeling during a song a bigger outrage than actual people dying? Kaepernick's gesture was so quiet and inconspicuous nobody even noticed it for weeks. Anyway, most fans use the singing of the national anthem at football games as a time to piss or buy beer. But racism isn't sensible. Neither is the automatic connection many make between the national anthem and the military, rather than a vast range of other American values or qualities. The hysterically hostile reaction to Kaepernick's protest makes as much sense as the police officer who from a helicopter saw a "bad dude", and as much sense as killing this perfectly innocent man. US cop kills African-American, recorded on two video cameras

A white Ohio policeman responding to reports of an armed robbery fatally shot a 13-year-old African-American boy after he pulled out what appeared to be a weapon that was later determined to be a BB gun, police said on Thursday. 
 
Tyre King was shot multiple times in an alley when he drew what appeared to be a handgun from his waistband during a confrontation with officers on Wednesday in Columbus, the state capital, police said. 
 
&quot;We consider it a tragedy when something like this happens,&quot; Columbus police chief Kim Jacobs said at a news conference. &quot;This is the last thing any police officer wants.&quot; 
 
Jacobs identified the officer who shot King as Bryan Mason, a nine-year veteran. Mason was placed on temporary administrative duty, pending an internal investigation. Police identified the victim as Tyre King. 
 
The family said in a statement released by a Columbus law firm that it retained to investigate the shooting that &quot;numerous witness accounts are in direct conflict with the officer&#39;s version of events&quot;. 
 
The family also said reports of King&#39;s actions before the shooting were allegations only at this point and called for an independent investigation. 
 
&ldquo;The family is obviously distraught by the murder of Tyre,&quot; attorney Chanda L. Brown said in the statement, which described Tyre as a typical 13-year-old boy who was active in football, soccer, hockey and gymnastics. &quot;They are shocked and indicate the actions described by the police are out of his normal character.&quot; 
 
King&#39;s death comes nearly two years after the fatal shooting of 12-year-old Tamir Rice, who was black, by a white Cleveland, Ohio police officer who was responding to reports of a suspect with a gun in a city park. 
 
An investigation revealed that Rice, who died a day after the shooting, had been seen holding a replica gun that shoots plastic pellets. 
 
Rice&#39;s death became a rallying point for the Black Lives Matter movement and one of a number of deaths that led to nationwide demonstrations against the use of excessive and sometimes deadly force against minorities, especially young black men, by police officers. 
 
On July 5, police shot dead 37-year-old Alton Sterling in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, while 32-year-old Philando Castile was fatally shot by police in St. Paul, Minnesota, a day later. 
 
In King&#39;s death, detectives retrieved the weapon from the scene of the shooting and later determined it was a BB gun, which shoots small round pellets, with an attached laser, police said. 
 
&quot;It looks like a firearm that could kill you,&quot; Jacobs said, as she held up an image of the same type of BB gun. 
 
The incident began just before 8 pm EDT on Wednesday when police responded to reports of an armed robbery. The victim told officers that a group of males had demanded money, threatening him with a gun, police said. 
 
A short time later officers found three males, including King, matching the descriptions of the suspects, police said. While attempting to question them, King and another male fled into an alley.

Ohio cop shoots 13-year-old African-American boy armed with a  BB gun that 'looked real'

Nine people from the Black Lives Matter movement &#39;erected a tripod and locked themselves together&#39; on the London city airport runway today, causing flights to be diverted for six hours. 
 
All nine have now been removed and taken into police custody, the London Metropolitan police said in a statement on their <a href="http://news.met.police.uk/news/protest-at-london-city-airport-184011?hootPostID=dd97130572b297d990bf4c61a3bdb17f" target="_blank">website</a>. 
 
Officers were alerted at 5.40 am (local time) to a number of protesters at London City airport, the statement said. 
 
The Twitter page of Black Lives Matter claimed responsibility and posted a video showing the protesters locked together on the runway, next to a sign.

Black Lives Matter protesters shut London airport for 6 hours

US&nbsp;Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump, visited Milwaukee&nbsp;on Tuesday, days after the city was hit by unrest over the fatal police shooting of a black man, and said that initial evidence pointed to the shooting being justified.

Trump, who has been vocal in support of law enforcement during a spate of protests around the country over high-profile police shootings, told Fox News that he plans to address the unrest during a town hall meeting on Tuesday in the Wisconsin city.

&quot;It&#39;s law and order. We have to obey the laws or we don&#39;t have a country,&quot; said Trump. &quot;We have a case where good people are out there trying to get people to sort of calm down and they&#39;re not calming down and we have our police who are doing a phenomenal job.&quot;

Unrest broke out in the city on Saturday night after the death earlier in the day of Sylville Smith, 23. Authorities said Smith was stopped for acting suspiciously and then fled, and was shot by police because he was carrying an illegal handgun and refused orders to drop it.

&quot;But the gun was pointed at his (a police officer&#39;s) head supposedly ready to be fired. Who can have a problem with that? That&rsquo;s what the narrative is,&quot; Trump told Fox News. &quot;Maybe it&rsquo;s not true. If it is true, people shouldn&rsquo;t be rioting.&rdquo;

Trump held a roundtable discussion on Tuesday afternoon with&nbsp;Milwaukee&nbsp;County Sheriff David Clarke and Inspector Edward Bailey - but news media representatives were escorted out and not permitted to hear the discussions. Trump took a brief tour of the county&#39;s war memorial and posed for pictures with veterans.

Clarke, who is black and who spoke last month at the Republican National Convention, has been blunt in his assessment of the unrest, writing in an opinion piece for The Hill, &quot;it was a collapse of the social order where tribal behaviour leads to reacting to circumstances instead of waiting for facts to emerge.&quot;

Demonstrations on Saturday night turned violent, when cars and businesses were set ablaze and gunfire ripped through the area of protests. The city was calmer on Monday night after a curfew was put in place for teenagers, and community leaders called for peace.

Police violence against African-Americans has set off intermittent, sometimes violent protests in the past two years, igniting a national debate over race and policing in the United States and giving rise to the Black Lives Matter movement.

Trump frequently talks about the need to restore safety and order in the wake of such unrest. He will hold an event with veterans and law enforcement, appear at the town hall meeting sponsored by Fox News, and then hold a rally in the&nbsp;Milwaukee&nbsp;suburb of West Bend on Tuesday night.

His presence in&nbsp;Milwaukee&nbsp;could prompt more demonstrations. Opponents of the New York real estate mogul frequently demonstrate inside and outside his campaign events. A rally in Chicago earlier this year was cancelled after demonstrations grew violent.

A Fox News representative would not elaborate on security for the event.

Meanwhile, officials from the Office of Director of National Intelligence are expected to give Trump a wide-ranging briefing on national security issues this week, an adviser to Trump and a source familiar with the matter said on Tuesday.

Presidential candidates are entitled to receive a briefing of classified information after they formally secure the nomination, which Trump did last month. Trump&#39;s Democratic rival, Hillary Clinton, is also entitled to receive a briefing if she requests one.

Democrats have been strongly critical of Trump&#39;s positions on foreign policy and national security, as well as of some of his freewheeling remarks. President Barack Obama has called Trump &quot;unfit&quot; for the presidency and earlier this month warned the Republican candidate that briefing information must be kept secret.
