The symptoms showed increased risks from the virus which had earlier caused conjunctivitis or eye redness in farm workers, who had got infected by the bird flu.&nbsp;

The US Centres for Disease Control and Prevention said that the general public is at less risk of getting infected by H5N1 bird flu.

Since April, the CDC confirmed 61 human cases, most of which were workers working on dairy farms which had cattle infected by the virus. The workers who culled the infected poultry also tested positive.

The Louisiana patient has been in critical condition and is suffering from severe respiratory illness, said the Louisiana Department of Health, in a statement.&nbsp;

“If you look at the genotype of this patient in Louisiana, it wasn’t the cattle strain. It was a wild bird strain," he added.

Since March, 860 dairy herds in 16 states have been infected by the bird flu and 123 million poultry have been killed. The outbreak started in 2022.

Notably, the virus has a high mortality rate of about 50 per cent worldwide, even though some cases with mild symptoms may go unnoticed.

The CDC is now analysing whether the Missouri resident has been infected with the same strain that infected patients on the farms. If the strain is found to be the same, it would mean that there has to be a chain of transmission, either through animals or humans.

Meanwhile, the persons who came into contact with the Missouri patient remained asymptomatic and didn’t transfer the virus to anybody.

Earlier in March, Mexico’s government reported an outbreak of H5N2 in an isolated family unit in the country’s western Michoacan state. But it had assured at the time it did not represent a risk to distant commercial farms, nor to human health.

However, after the April death, Mexican authorities confirmed the presence of the virus and reported the case to the WHO.

While three H5N2 outbreaks occurred in nearby Mexican regions in March, authorities haven't established a link to the recent human case.&nbsp;

The regulators have again confirmed that till now no evidence has emerged which proves that milk is dangerous for&nbsp;consumption.

However, traces of the virus in samples of milk from around the country clearly confirm bird flu outbreak in dairy cows.

The findings of the FDA emerged less than a month after the H5N1 strain of bird flu was discovered for the first time in dairy cows in several states. Since then, the flu has been detected in herds in eight states.

The FDA has been working to investigate the outbreak with the US Department of Agriculture and the Centres for Disease Control and Prevention.&nbsp;
