<h2><strong>Modus operandi of murders</strong></h2>

<p>The victims are aged between 45 and 55 and have been found strangled in the fields around noon with their clothes dishevelled. However, there has been no sign of sexual assault so far. Interestingly, most of the victims were choked to death using the sarees they were wearing.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>

<p>According to reports, the first murder took place in June last year and by November the kill count had risen to eight. The government hierarchy panicked and sent 300 policemen, divided into 14 teams of uniformed and plain cloth officials. Subsequently,&nbsp;three suspects were arrested but the murders continued.&nbsp;</p>

<p>After the November murder, there was a hiatus of seven months before the killer came out of hibernation by butchering a 45-year-old woman at a sugarcane farm in the Shahi Sheeshgarh area on July 3.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The victim has been identified as Anita, a resident of&nbsp;Bhujiya Jagir village in Shergarh. She had gone to her maternal in Fatehganj's Khirka village when she met her end.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Uttar Pradesh DGP Prashant Kumar informed that the police had been investigating the case for six months and recently released a sketch of three suspects.&nbsp;</p>

<p>“Our teams have been investigating this case for six months and have not ruled out the possibility of a serial killer due to the nearly identical modus operandi behind the murders. Based on some leads, we have now released sketches of three suspects,"&nbsp;Kumar told <em>TOI</em>.&nbsp;</p>

<p>A man in India's northern state of Uttar Pradesh was sentenced to life in prison after he slit open his pregnant wife's stomach to check their baby's gender.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Panna Lal was awarded the sentence on Thursday by the fast-track court of Additional District and Sessions Judge Saurabh Saxena,&nbsp;the&nbsp;Times of India reported on Friday (May 24).</p>

<p>The incident happened in Bareilly's Budaun in September 2020. The woman&nbsp;was admitted&nbsp;to New Delhi's Safdarjung&nbsp;Hospital&nbsp;where doctors managed to save her life. However, the baby, who was a boy, died, the&nbsp;report said.</p>

<p>Speaking to TOI, the victim's brother said that his sister and Lal had been married for nearly 25 years. The brother said&nbsp;that his&nbsp;sister gave birth to five daughters&nbsp;but&nbsp;her husband wanted a boy.</p>

<p>He said that when his sister was pregnant for a second time, Lal demanded an abortion as he was convinced by a priest that this time&nbsp;too&nbsp;a&nbsp;girl would be born.&nbsp;However, the brother said that his sister was adamant about keeping the child.</p>

<p>He further added that his sister was subjected to assault by Lal.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Public prosecutor Atul Singh told the publication that the accused man initially denied committing the crime.</p>

<p>The accused called it an accident&nbsp;but&nbsp;evidence produced in court and the victim's statement proved sufficient to convict him, Singh added.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The incident happened in Mirganj area of Bareilly district in Uttar Pradesh.&nbsp;</p>

<p>No case has been registered yet but Bareilly district magistrate Raghvendra Vikram Singh informed that he has asked a sub-divisional magistrate and officer to probe the sale.</p>

<p>&quot;The administration will provide every support to the family after receiving the report from the officers,&quot; Singh said.</p>

<p>The Social Welfare and Social Education Department had taken note of the incident and assured that it was making all efforts to bring the child back to the family.</p>
