<p>The captain, Qasim and his deputy, Omair Yousuf, are yet to feature for Pakistan in international cricket. At least eight members from the 15-man squad were part of Shaheens, who travelled to Zimbabwe for two four-day and six 50-over matches earlier.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The majority of players from this squad were also part of the ACC Emerging Asia Cup in Sri Lanka last month, where they won the title after beating arch-rivals India in the one-sided final.</p>

<p>The Pakistan Team will enter the competition at the quarterfinal stage, which will begin on October only, with the final set for October 7.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Meanwhile, this will be the third time cricket will be played at the Asian Games, having featured twice before in Guangzhou 2010 and Incheon 2014.</p>

<p>While Bangladesh won the first time, Sri Lanka took home the gold medal in 2014, with Afghanistan playing runners-up on both occasions.</p>

<p>The women’s team will feature in the competition, led by Nida Dar – the squad of which was announced in July. The Women’s matches will take place before the Men’s matches.</p>

Ali was a vital cog in Pakistan's five-wicket victory against Afghanistan in the Super 12 stage at Dubai International Stadium.&nbsp;</p>

<p>During the match, the 2009 champions restricted Afghanistan to a modest 147-6 and the skipper Babar Azam anchored the chase with a fluent 51 but it was Asif who smashed four sixes in the penultimate over from Karim Janat to clinch the see-saw contest with six balls to spare.&nbsp;</p>

<p>After his power-hitting, Asif pulled off the 'gunshot' celebration, and now the Twitterati can't keep calm as it has reminded them of the former India skipper Dhoni, who has done it a few times in his illustrious career.&nbsp;</p>

"My job is to hit sixes, so I practise in scenarios based on situations, needing to hit sixes in the last five overs type situations," he said.</p>

<p>Maligned for his poor form despite being given consistent chances by team management, Asif said he ignored the criticism. "I don't read what is said about me on social media and don't watch television so I don't know what is said about me in social media and that helps me focus on my work."</p>

<p>Pakistan recalled middle-order batsmen Asif Ali and Khushdil Shah for this year's Twenty20 World Cup on Monday but former captain Sarfaraz Ahmed could not make the 15-member squad.</p>

<p>Chief selector Mohammad Wasim said they tried several players in the middle order before bringing back Asif and Khushdil for Pakistan's bid for a second Twenty20 World Cup.</p>

<p>"They are the best in the available pool of middle-order batsmen and we remain confident that they will provide us solutions to our middle-order difficulties through solid performances," he said after unveiling the Babar Azam-led team.</p>

<p>While Mohammad Rizwan is their preferred wicketkeeper, the selectors picked Azam Khan as the back-up stumper ignoring veteran Sarfaraz.</p>
