Army jawan killed in shelling by Pakistan in Poonch after Operation Sindoor

An Army jawan was killed on Monday as Pakistani troops opened fire and lobbed mortar shells at forward areas along the Line of Control (LoC) and the International Border (IB) in Jammu and Kashmir, officials said.

The heavy Pakistani firing and shelling were reported along the LoC in Poonch district's Krishna Ghati sector and Rajouri's Nowshera sector, and along the IB in Kathua district, the officials said.

An Army jawan, guarding a forward post, was critically injured after being hit by cross-border shelling in Nowshera sector, they said, adding that he succumbed to his injuries later.

He is the fourth Army personnel to be killed in Pakistani firing along the LoC in Rajouri and Poonch this month. Two soldiers were killed in Pakistani firing in Rajouri district on June 4 and 10, while another soldier fell to cross-border firing in Poonch on June 14.

There has been a spurt in Pakistani shelling along the border in Jammu and Kashmir this year with over 2,027 cases of violation of a ceasefire agreement being reported till June 10.

Earlier, a defence spokesman said, "At about 0330 hours today, Pak army initiated unprovoked ceasefire violation by firing of small arms and intense shelling with mortars along LoC in Krishnagati Sector in Poonch district," a defense spokesman said.

"Again at about 0530 hours Pak army initiated unprovoked ceasefire violation in Nowshera sector, district Rajouri," he said.

The Indian Army is retaliating befittingly, he said.

Along the International Border, Pakistani Rangers engaged in heavy firing on forward posts and villages in the Karol Matrai area of Hiranagar sector in Kathua district, an official said.

He said the unprovoked firing from Pakistan started around 1 am and the Border Security Force (BSF) gave a befitting retaliation.

The exchange of fire between the two sides continued till 3.50 am, the official said.

Indian soldier martyred as Pakistani troops shell forward areas along LoC, IB in J&K 

An Indian army man Lance Naik Sandeep Thapa was killed as Pakistan violated ceasefire along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir's Nowshera sector of Rajouri district on Saturday.

The 35-year-old had succumbed to his injuries in the firing.&nbsp;He was a resident of Dehradun.

Jammu & Kashmir: Defence ministry rejects reports of IED blast, says 1 jawan injured in 'training-related incident'

An Army jawan, who sustained injuries in an encounter with terrorists in Shopian district of Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday, has succumbed, police said.

"The injured Army jawan Rohit Kumar Yadav has succumbed at the hospital and attained martyrdom," a police spokesman said.

Yadav had suffered grievous injuries during a gun battle with three ultras in Handew area of Shopian. All three terrorists were killed.

The spokesman identified the slain militants as Yawar Ahmad Dar, Shakeel Ahmad Dar and Ishtiyaq Bhat. They were affiliated with proscribed terror outfit Hizbul Mujahideen.

"As per police records, Yawar Dar was involved in planning and executing series of terror attacks in the area and many other civilian atrocities. He was involved in the terror attack on Zainpora Police Guard last year in which four policemen were martyred," a PTI report quoting the spokesperson said.&nbsp;

Six militants and a civilian were killed in two encounters in Shopian and Pulwama districts in the state on Thursday. Two soldiers including Yadav were also killed in the operations.

J&K: Army jawan martyred, one terrorist gunned down in Pulwama encounter

An Army jawan died at a hospital here on Friday after he sustained head injuries during stone-pelting by a group of youths, an official said.

"Sepoy Rajendra Singh was part of a quick reaction team which was providing security to a Border Roads Organisation (BRO) convoy on Thursday. At around 1800 hrs, when the convoy was passing through the Anantnag bypass tri-junction near NH-44, few youths hurled stones at the vehicle and Singh was injured after being hit by a stone directly on the head," the Army official said.

He said Singh was provided immediate first aid and evacuated to 92 Base Hospital where the soldier succumbed to injuries.

A resident of Uttarakhand's Badena village, Singh had joined the Army in 2016 and is survived by his parents.

The Army on Friday paid tributes to him and two other jawans -- Lance Naik Brajesh Kumar, Sepoy Ngamsiamliana -- who were killed in separate anti-militancy operations in Kashmir valley.

"In a solemn ceremony at Badamibagh cantonment here, General Officer Commanding of Chinar Corps of the Army Lt Gen A K Bhatt and all ranks paid homage to the martyrs on behalf of a proud nation," the official said.

Director General of Jammu and Kashmir Police Dilbag Singh and representatives from various security agencies also joined in paying the last respects to the soldiers, he said.

An army jawan was killed in an unprovoked firing by Pakistan soldiers along the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday.&nbsp;
