<p>In a new picture revealed by filmmakers, John Abraham and Aditi Rao Hydari are playing a romantic couple in a story that is set in 1947, around the time of India’s Independence. John will be seen playing a Sikh for the first time.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The two will play grandparents to the characters played by Arjun Kapoor and Rakul Preet Singh that had recently started shooting for the film.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Aditi Rao Hydari plays John Abraham’s love interest and the younger version of Neena Gupta’s character in the film. She said, “John and I play a couple in 1946–47 whose love story remains unfinished and unrequited till Arjun’s character feels the need to bring it to closure. Films like these are rarely made today, so I was quick to come on board.”</p>

<p>The two will be shooting for their part for a week during this indoor schedule. They will then reunite with the team for a brief outdoor shoot schedule in October.</p>

<p>The project is also co-produced by John Abraham along with Bhushan Kumar and Nikkhil Advani.</p>

<p>On the project, John said, “The team has taken extreme care, following all the SOPs issued by the ministries and concerned authorities. As a producer, it’s important for me to look out for our cast and crew.”</p>

<p>Director Sudhir Mishra says fans expecting to see another version of Sharat Chandra Chattopadhyay&#39;s 1917 classic <em>Devdas</em>&nbsp;will be disappointed with his film<em> Daas Dev</em>, which is a completely different take on the story and deals with the addiction of power.<br />

While the director, best known for his 2005 cult classic &quot;Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi&quot;, &quot;Dharavi&quot;, &quot;Is Raat Ki Subah Nahin&quot; and &quot;Chameli&quot;, acknowledged Chattopadhyay&#39;s book as an inspiration, he said he has reversed the story. The film also carries some Shakespearean elements.<br />

The director revealed that the novel by Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay was an inspiration for his film.

Director Sudhir Mishra says fans expecting to see another version of Sharat Chandra Chattopadhyay's 1917 classic Devdas will be disappointed with his film Daas Dev, which is a completely different take on the story and deals with the addiction of power. While the director, best known for his 2005 cult classic "Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi", "Dharavi", "Is Raat Ki Subah Nahin" and "Chameli", acknowledged Chattopadhyay's book as an inspiration, he said he has reversed the story. The film also carries some Shakespearean elements. "I am not making 'Devdas'. My film is not based on Sharat Chandra Chattopadhyay's novel. I apologise to him for reversing the story. If you want to see his version then don't come and see it. I am acknowledging the inspiration. "(But) This is a different story. The film is about addiction of power and through that there is Dev, Paro and Chandni. Pressure is always there when you make a film. We all have worked very hard on it," Mishra told reporters at the trailer launch of the film. Mishra is a well-respected figure in the directors' community and that was evident in the presence of over 20 top directors from Hindi cinema including names like Imtiaz Ali, Vishal Bhardwaj, Ketan Mehta, Rahul Rawail, Vijay Krishna Acharya, Abhishek Kapoor, Nikhil Advani and Mudassar Aziz.
