According to the local media, Afsaneh Bayegan was arrested after attending a movie premiere without a hijab as she was wearing a hat hence failing to comply with the hijab law. She has been suspended for 5 years.

<p>In what can be termed a peculiar directive, the court has ordered Bayegan to visit a psychological centre every week "to treat the mental disorder of having an anti-family personality" and "to submit a health certificate after her treatment."</p>

<p>Fars news agency added that the verdict also bans the actress from using social media and leaving the Islamic Republic for two years.</p>

<p>The 61-year-old actress had appeared at a movie ceremony without wearing a headscarf and then shared photos on social media.</p>

<p>After the 1979 Islamic revolution, wearing a hijab has been compulsory for all women in Iran.</p>

<p>Bayegan had also expressed support for last year's protests triggered by the death in police custody of 22-year-old Iranian Kurd Mahsa Amini, who had been arrested in September for allegedly violating the strict dress code.</p>

<p>Bayegan rose to prominence after the 1979 revolution and is best known for her role in "Sarbedaran", a television series about Iran's resistance to Mongol invasion in the 14th century.</p>

<h2><strong>Police patrols increased</strong></h2>

<p>Since the Mahsa Amini protests, women in Iran have increasingly flouted the dress code. State media said on Sunday that there were increased police patrols on the street which were aimed at catching those ignoring the law.</p>

<p>The authorities in Iran are clamping down pn dissent as the anniversary of Mahsa Amini's death approaches apparently to prevent revival of protests that had rocked the counry last year.</p>

<p>Reuters has reported that Journalists, lawyers, activists, human rights advocates and students have been arrested &nbsp;summoned or faced other measures in a campaign that one activist described as "instilling fear and intimidation".</p>

<p>Senior officials are now defending theh new crackdown claiming that it is necessary to maintain stability.</p>

<p>Last year, when the protests were at their peak, Iranian authority responded by cracking down on protests.</p>

<p>A senior former Iranian official said the authorities should not ignore realities on the ground this time round.</p>

<p>"People are still angry over Amini's death and they are frustrated because of their daily struggle to bring food to their tables," the former official said who Reuters said asked not to be identified.</p>

<p>"These wrong decisions may have painful consequences for the establishment. People cannot take more pressure. If it continues, we will witness street protests again."</p>

<p>Ambreen's father, an asthma patient, keeps saying that Ambreen was his son and not daughter. She was the lone bread earner of the house. She was associated with TV for over 18 years, and she was famous on social media too.</p>

<p>The Jammu and Kashmir Police have said that three Lashkar terrorists are involved in the killing of the 35-tear-old star.&nbsp;</p>

<p>According to Ambreen's family, ''Two people knocked on the door of their house around 7.45 pm. Her nephew opened the door and found two people standing. They asked for Ambreen, and afterwards, she came out. They asked her to come with them for a filing related project in Budgam village, but she denied their request. That is when she was fired upon and one of the bullets hit her nephew,” said Ambreen's brother-in-Law.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Everyone in the locality is condemning this killing and saying no humanity in the world allows this kind of murder. Shooting a woman and a child is a sin, they say. However, the family claimed that Ambreen had received no threat of any kind in the past.</p>

<p>''Ambreen used to run this house, she used to earn some money by working in TV and helping in running the house. She has been snatched from us and we don't know what to do. I cannot do anything, but God will punish my daughters’ killers,'' said Ambreen’s father.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The political parties have also expressed outrage over the brutal killing.</p>

<p>Former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Omar Abdullah expressed grief saying, ''Shocked &amp; deeply saddened by the murderous militant attack on Ambreen Bhat. Sadly, Ambreen lost her life in the attack &amp; her nephew was injured. There can be no justification for attacking innocent women &amp; children like this. May Allah grant her a place in Jannat.''</p>

<p>PDP President and former CM Mehbooba Mufti blamed the government saying, ''Government of India keeps blowing its trumpet of normalcy in J&amp;K even when such gruesome incidents suggest otherwise. My heart goes out to Ambreen Bhat’s family &amp; pray her nephew recovers swiftly.”</p>

<p>In the past week, there has been a spate of civilian and personnel killings by the terrorists in Kashmir.</p>

<p>Earlier on Tuesday, terrorists shot dead a police constable outside his house in Soura area of Srinagar. His 7-year-old daughter was injured in the attack.</p>

<p>On May 13, another police constable Riyaz Ahmed was gunned down at his residence in Pulwama.</p>

''I am extremely excited to play the human computer, Shakuntala Devi, on the big screen. She was truly someone who embraced her individuality, had a strong feminist voice and braved many a naysayer to reach the pinnacle of success," Vidya said in a statement. The Padma Shree actor said what truly fascinated her is the fun person that Shakuntala Devi was. ''One wouldn`t normally associate a fun person with Math...and she completely turns that perception on its head,'' said Vidya. ''I am thrilled that Vikram, who I`ve worked with on Kahaani, and his team are producing the film. Vikram (Malhotra), Anu (Menon) and I are proud to bring to life the story of one of the most inspiring women of this country. How incredible that `The Math Genius`, `The Human Computer`, was a small-town Indian girl, who took the world by storm,'' she said. Her ability to make earned Shakuntala a place in Guinness Book of World Record in 1982. Shakuntala`s ability to make incredibly swift calculations on her fingertips was first discovered at the age of 5 when she solved a math problem for 18-year-old students. Although she never received any formal education her love for numbers won her several awards.

<p>Amrita Rao is returning to films with 'Thackeray' and the actor believes with changing dynamics in showbiz, she is ready to experiment.</p>

<p>The actor became the epitome of 'the girl-next-door' in the early 2000s with films such as 'Ishq Vishq', 'Main Hoon Na' and 'Vivah'.</p>

<p>Her last cinematic outing was 2013's 'Satyagraha' and she did musical drama 'Meri Awaaz Hi Pehchaan Hai' for the small screen three years later.</p>

<p>Rao said she turned down many big Bollywood projects as they did not meet her selection criteria.</p>

<p>"It has been a journey of sacrificing big films because I was not comfortable with the on-screen requirements. Trends change, on-screen demand of actresses change. Cinema is a slice of reality. You have school and college kids being intimate and marriage is not even in question and that is what they show in cinema. That kind of requirement of the character did not suit me. So I had to let go of those big offers with a heavy heart. The directors respected me and understood that I had certain restrictions which were sacred to me," she told PTI in an interview.</p>

<p>The actor plays Meena Thackeray, wife to late Shiv Sena founder Bal Thackeray (portrayed by Nawazuddin Siddiqui) in the film.</p>

<p>She said the makers approached her to play the role as they believed that both the women have a 'pure' image.</p>

<p>"I have earned that image in the industry. Playing a mature role was challenging for me. I have played the girl-next-door and then to portray this part, where my character spans from a 28-year-old to a 60-year-old, was not easy," she said.</p>

<p>And now Rao wants to be part of something edgy.</p>

<p>"Discussions are on. I want to do something that I have not done before like a thriller, murder mystery or suspense film. I would love to play a negative role...Due to digitalisation, work opportunities and avenues have changed so much. Directors typecasting actors is passe," she said.</p>

<p>In 2016, the actor tied the knot with radio jockey Anmol and focused on her personal life. Rao said she had hinted at the hiatus before implementing it.</p>

<p>"I was not making presence anywhere... There are some actors who surrender themselves to the industry. I have always been a family person," she added.</p>

<p>In a comment on India's #MeToo tsunami that has crossed the boundaries of the film industry since last September, the actor said influential people would try to get their way, but 'accepting it or not' will always be a choice.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"It is unfortunate when I hear about the #MeToo cases. There are girls and guys here who are ready to grab opportunities at any cost. People should respect themselves and their values," she said.</p>

<p>Rao said she was 'blessed' to never experience harassment. She believes it was because she became a star early on in her career despite being an outsider.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"I had a wonderful entry into films without being a star kid. And you can't plan such things. My journey has been different. I arrived and I became a star so everybody was on their best behaviour with me. I have stuck to my personality, I have not done anything that is out of my personal zone," she said. &nbsp;</p>
