G20 Peoples’ Climate Vote surveyed more than 689,000 people from October 2020 to June 2021 across all the G20 member nations. Nearly 302,000 individuals, aged 14-17 made their opinions heard.

Cassie Flynn, the lead author and strategic advisor to the UN Development Program (UNDP) told The Hill that she had been thinking about how to approach such a diverse sample population in a low-pressure environment. Therefore, her team created ads in 19 languages that appeared across popular gaming platforms.&nbsp;

The ads ranged from apps that would attract a younger audience to crossword puzzles that might attract older participants as well.&nbsp;

In the results, the widest generational gap was discovered in Australia and the US. This is where people in the "under-18” category ranked 10 percentage points higher than adult respondents regarding general recognition of the climate emergency.&nbsp;

The gap was at its greatest when it came to support for electric vehicles and renewable energy.&nbsp;

A total of 13 percentage points in the US were for electric vehicles, and 10 percentage points for renewable energy.&nbsp;

As per the authors, the members of G20 generated about 75 per cent of global emissions and they account for more than 80 per cent of the global GDP, as well as 60 per cent of the world’s population

The authors say that this is the first time that the voices of young people are being heard in a few countries. Also, many of these individuals will be of voting age in just a few years.&nbsp;

The researchers argued that the survey could provide significant value in forecasting where public opinion is headed on climate policy. Also, it will indicate where stronger public education efforts are needed.

G20 youth show their support for bold climate action: UN poll

Global warming is already affecting people's health so much that emergency action on&nbsp;climate&nbsp;change cannot be put on hold while the world deals with the Covid-19 pandemic, medical journals across the globe warned on Monday.

"Health is already being harmed by global temperature increases and the destruction of the natural world," read an editorial published in more than 220 leading journals ahead of the Cop26&nbsp;climate&nbsp;summit in November.

Since the pre-industrial era, temperatures have risen around 1.1 degrees Celsius (34 degrees Fahrenheit).

The editorial, written&nbsp;by the editors-in-chief of over a dozen journals including the Lancet, the East African Medical Journal, Brazil's Revista de Saude Publica and the International Nursing Review, said this had caused a plethora of health problems.

"In the past 20 years, heat-related mortality among people older than 65 years has increased by more than 50 percent," it read.

"Higher temperatures have brought increased dehydration and renal function loss, dermatological malignancies, tropical infections, adverse mental health outcomes, pregnancy complications, allergies, and cardiovascular and pulmonary morbidity and mortality."

It also pointed to the decline in agricultural production, "hampering efforts to reduce undernutrition."

These effects, which hit those most vulnerable like minorities, children and poorer communities hardest, are just the beginning, it warned.

As things stand, global warming could reach +1.5C on pre-industrial levels around 2030, according to the UN's Intergovernmental Panel on&nbsp;Climate&nbsp;Change.

And that, along with the continued loss of biodiversity, "risk catastrophic harm to health that will be impossible to reverse," the editorial warned.

"Despite the world's necessary preoccupation with Covid-19, we cannot wait for the pandemic to pass to rapidly reduce emissions."

In a statement ahead of the publication of the editorial, World Health Organization chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said: "The risks posed by&nbsp;climate&nbsp;change could dwarf those of any single disease."

"The Covid-19 pandemic will end, but there is no vaccine for the&nbsp;climate&nbsp;crisis.

"Every action taken to limit emissions and warming brings us closer to a healthier and safer future."

The editorial pointed out that many governments met the threat of Covid-19 with "unprecedented funding" and called for "a similar emergency response" to the environmental crisis, highlighting the benefits.

"Better air quality alone would realise health benefits that easily offset the global costs of emissions reductions," it read.

The authors also said "governments must make fundamental changes to how our societies and economies are organised and how we live."

More than 200 medical journals call for urgent action on climate change

BRICS Counter Terrorism Action Plan has been finalised at the working group meet that took place last week under the chairmanship of India. The meet took place on July 28 and 29, and was chaired by Joint Secretary for Counter Terrorism, Ministry of External Affairs Mahaveer Singhvi.

The meet, which took place virtually, saw the participation of Senior counter terrorism officials from all BRICS countries.&nbsp;

The Counter Terrorism action plan aims to "further strengthening result-oriented cooperation between BRICS countries" in areas, such as "preventing and combating terrorism, radicalisation, financing of terrorism, misuse of the internet by terrorists, curbing travel of terrorists, border control, protection of soft targets, information sharing, capacity building, international and regional cooperation, etc," said the ministry of external affairs release. &nbsp;&nbsp;

The plan will be adopted at the BRICS National Security Advisors meeting that will take place in August. The plan implements BRICS Counter Terrorism Strategy adopted by BRICS Leaders in 2020. Later this year, India hosts the BRICS leaders' meet and so far, many events have been organised under India's leadership.&nbsp;

During the working group meeting while "condemning terrorism in all its forms and manifestations whenever, wherever and by whomsoever committed, the BRICS countries also exchanged views on terrorism threat assessment at national, regional and global level and resolved to further enhance counter terrorism cooperation in line with the action plan," the MEA release pointed out.&nbsp;

Ahead of the Counter Terrorism Working Group meet, sub workings groups met on five subjects, such as misuse of internet for terrorist purposes, de-radicalisation, countering terrorist financing, capacity building and countering foreign terrorist fighters on July 26 and 27.&nbsp;
