<p>Data from BSE indicates that, the private equity firm sold 123.5 million shares in bulk for Rs 91.01 ($1.10) each, with buyers including Morgan Stanley Asia Singapore, Kotak Mahindra Mutual Fund, Societe Generale, and BNP Paribas Arbitrage Fund.</p>

The country registered a rainfall deficit of 25 per cent in August 2005, 24.6 per cent in 1965; 24.4 per cent in 1920; 24.1 per cent in 2009 and 24 per cent deficit in 1913, as per the IMD data.<br />

IMD chief Mrutyunjay Mohapatra said that El Nino is the main reason behind below-normal rainfall in August, apart from the "unfavourable phase of the Madden Julian Oscillation (MJO) which is known to reduce convection in the Bay of Bengal and the Arabian Sea".<br />
<br />
El Nino is the climatic change that takes place due to the warming of waters in the Pacific Ocean near South America. Generally, El Nino is related to the dry weather and weakening monsoon winds in India.</p>

<h2><strong>El Nino impacts two low-pressure systems</strong></h2>

<p>"The favourable phase of MJO results in rainfall even if there is no low-pressure system. July recorded above-normal rainfall due to the favourable phase of MJO," Mohapatra stated.<br />
<br />
He added that the prevailing El Nino conditions impacted only two low-pressure systems, among the five, which developed over the Bay of Bengal (BoB). "Another reason for below-normal rainfall in August was a lower number of low-pressure systems in the South China Sea and they, too, moved northward," he further stated.<br />
<br />
Low-pressure systems that develop over the South China Sea typically move westward and reach the north BoB after crossing Thailand and Vietnam.</p>

<p>The Indian government on Tuesday announced a scheme that will provide financial aid of up to Rs 50 lakh ($60,000) to technical textiles startups and other individuals engaged in the industry.</p>

<p>According to a Mint report, the&nbsp;grant-in-aid will be offered for up to 18 months to aspiring innovators under the Grant for Research and Entrepreneurship Across Aspiring Innovators in Technical Textiles (GREAT) program.</p>

<p>“With a strong emphasis on developing the startup ecosystem in technical textiles, the guidelines focus on supporting individuals and companies to translate prototypes to technologies and products including commercialisation,” Mint quoted the statement made by the ministry of textiles.</p>

<p>The statement added that the GREAT guidelines give momentum to the development of high-performance fibres and composites, sustainable and recyclable textile materials, and smart textiles using artificial intelligence, the internet of things, 3D/4D printing, and rapid prototyping. The application areas for technical textiles include agrotextiles, building textiles, geotextiles, homes, medical textiles, mobile textiles, packaging textiles, protective textiles, and sports textiles.</p>

<p>Notably, companies must not be older than five years to qualify for the grant.</p>

<p>“To incentivise the incubators, the ministry will additionally provide 10 per cent of total grant-in-aid to incubators. To strengthen authenticity and commitment towards the project, a minimum investment of 10 per cent of the funding from the incubatee in two equal instalments is mandated,” the statement said.</p>

<p>The startup guidelines (GREAT), according to the statement, will give the technical textiles startup ecosystem in India the much-needed boost it needs, especially in specialised sub-segments like biodegradable and sustainable textiles, high-performance &amp; specialty fibres, and smart textiles, among others.</p>

<p>The government has also given 26 institutes its approval to upgrade their laboratory facilities and provide training in technical textile application fields.</p>

<p>It has also granted approval to 26 institutions’ requests for the creation and introduction of technical textile degree programs as well as technical textile courses or papers in important areas or specialisations.</p>

India: Man arrested in Gujarat for faking to be scientist behind Chandrayaan-3 lander design

<p>In a move that has sparked widespread controversy, China unveiled an incorrect map what it called 'its latest standard map' on August 29, which depicted several disputed territories as part of its sovereign land.</p>

<p>This act of redrawing borders, particularly claiming the Indian northeastern state of Arunachal Pradesh and the contentious Aksai Chin region as its own, has led to heightened tensions.</p>

<p>Notably, Taiwan and the South China Sea, both of which are subjects of intense international disputes, were also included within China's territorial ambit in this new map.</p>

<p>The Chinese state media outlet Global Times took to X (formerly known as Twitter) to share this new map, asserting that it was formulated based on the country's national boundaries and those of various other nations.</p>

<p>India's response to this development was swift and strong.</p>

<p>Tiger Global exited Zomato by selling about 12.35 crore of its shares, realising a transaction value of Rs. 1,124 crore ($136 million) at an average share price of Rs. 91.01 ($1). Tiger Global’s investment relationship with Zomato, a significant participant in India’s food delivery and restaurant discovery markets, came to an end with this transaction.</p>

<p>The sale of Tiger Global’s 1.44 per cent equity ownership in Zomato demonstrates the investment company's strategic choice to make money off of its stake in the online meal delivery service. It’s important to note that Tiger Global had long been a substantial Zomato investment.</p>

<p>Along with Tiger Global, DST Global participated in the share sale through its investment vehicle Apolleto Asia Ltd, selling over 3.2 crore Zomato shares for Rs 288 crore ($34 million).</p>

<p>According to shareholding information with the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), Tiger Global owned a 1.44 per cent investment in Zomato at the end of the June quarter. Tiger Global sold more than 18.45 crore shares on the open market in August 2022, cutting its ownership in the business by nearly half to 2.77 per cent. Before the deal, Tiger Global’s Internet Fund VI Pte owned 5.11 per cent of the online food delivery service.</p>

<p>In the June quarter of this fiscal year, Zomato saw profits for the first time. The company’s food delivery margins increased to 13.6 per cent and operational improvement in the food division both contributed to the profitability.</p>

<p>When contrasted with a net loss of Rs 186 crore ($22 million) during the same period last year, the company’s combined net profit for the first quarter of this fiscal year was Rs 2 crore ($242,000). Comparing the same quarter of the previous fiscal year to the current one, the consolidated revenue from operations increased 71 per cent year over year to Rs 2,416 crore ($292 million) from Rs 1,414 crore ($171 million).</p>

<p>The map, which wrongly shows parts of India inside China, as well as transition of 9-dash line into 10-dash line, comes just before G-20 summit in New Delhi, and Chinese leader Xi Jinping's potential visit to India to attend the same.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The 9-dash line is a U-shaped line etched on map in the 1940s by a Chinese geographer that asserts claim to 90 per cent of the South China Sea, which the Philippines calls North Philippines Sea. This is against international laws, particularly the United Nations Convention of the Laws of the Sea (UNCLOS).&nbsp;</p>
