Lionel Messi beats Cristiano Ronaldo in Forbes top 100, Virat Kohli only Indian in list

Basketball and football dominated Forbes's top 100 list of highest paid athletes

#100 Virat Kohli (cricket)

Virat Kohli, India's cricket captain has once again become the sole Indian in the Forbes 2019 list of world's highest-paid athletes.
Ranked 100th in the table.

Kohli is last on the list of top-100 athletes with estimated earnings of $21 million from endorsements and $4 million from salary and winnings, taking his total tally to $25m for the last 12 months.

He's the only cricketer to be on this years Forbes list of highest paid athletes.

#1 Lionel Messi (football)

Barcelona and Argentina striker Lionel Messi dethroned five-division boxing world champion Floyd Mayweather as the highest paid athlete over the past year.

Lionel Messi is ranked at the top and earned $ 127 million this year.

#2 Cristiano Ronaldo (football) 

Cristiano Ronaldo is a Portuguese professional footballer who plays as a forward for Italian club Juventus and captains the Portugal national team.

Ronaldo is ranked second and earned $109 million this year.

#3 Neymar (football) 

Neymar is a Brazilian professional footballer who plays as a forward for French club Paris Saint-Germain and the Brazil national team.

Neymar is ranked third and earned $105 million this year.

#4 Canelo Alvarez (boxing) 

Canelo Alvarez has held multiple world championships in three weight classes, including the unified WBA (Super), WBC, Ring magazine, and lineal middleweight titles since 2018, the IBF middleweight title since May 2019, and the WBA (Regular) super middleweight title since December 2018. 

Alvarez is ranked fourth and earned $94 million this year.

#5 Roger Federer (tennis) 

Roger Federer is currently ranked world No. 3 in men's singles tennis by the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP). 

He has won 20 Grand Slam singles titles, the most in history for a male player.

Federer is ranked fifth and earned $93.4 million this year.

#6 Russell Wilson (NFL)

Russell Wilson is an American football quarterback for the Seattle Seahawks of the National Football League (NFL). 

Through his first 7 NFL seasons, Wilson has been named to six Pro Bowls and has played two Super Bowls, winning Super Bowl XLVII.

Wilson is ranked sixth and earned  $89.5 million this year.

#7 Aaron Rodgers (NFL) 

Aaron Rodgers is an American football quarterback for the Green Bay Packers of the National Football League (NFL). 

In 2010, he led the Green Bay Packers to a victory in Super Bowl XLV over the Pittsburgh Steelers, earning the Super Bowl MVP.

Rodgers is ranked seventh and earned $89.3 million this year.

#8 LeBron James (NBA) 

LeBron is an American professional basketball player for the LA Lakers of the National Basketball Association (NBA). 

James' accomplishments include three NBA championships, four NBA Most Valuable Player Awards, three NBA Finals MVP Awards, and two Olympic gold medals.

James is ranked eighth and earned $89 million this year.

#9 Stephen Curry (NBA)

Stephen Curry plays for the Golden State Warriors in the National Basketball Association (NBA). 

A six-time NBA All-Star, he has been named the NBA Most Valuable Player (MVP) twice and won three NBA championships with the Warriors.

Curry is ranked ninth and earned $79.8 million this year.

Kevin Durant also plays for the Golden State Warriors in the National Basketball Association (NBA).

Durant is ranked tenth and has earned $65.4 million this year.
