RIP 'Masterji' Saroj Khan: Iconic dance steps choreographed by her
Renowned choreographer Saroj Khan, who passed away today morning choreographed more than 2,000 songs in her decades-long career and gave some iconic dance steps to the entertainment industry -- from Shah Rukh Khan's signature step to Madhuri Dixit's 'Ek Do Teen'.
Taking a look back at some of these iconic dance steps:
Dola Re Dola
Th hit number 'Dola Re Dola' of romantic saga 'Devdas' featured Madhuri Dixit and Aishwarya Rai together shaking a leg in Bengali traditional wear. The song was choreographed by Saroj Khan for which she also picked up the National Award that year for creating the iconic dance moves.
Ek Do Teen
Madhuri Dixit's 'Ek Do Teen' which was choreographed by Saroj Khan is one of the most iconic dance numbers in choreographic history in Bollywood. The song from the movie 'Tezaab' and its hook step to 'Aaja piya aayi bahar' stands unparalleled in the history of Bollywood dance choreography.
'Nimbooda' from Sanjay Leela Bhansali 'Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam' is Saroj's ode to the industry with Aishwarya reimagining the late choreographer's vision.
Main Naagin Tu Sapera
The 1986 movie 'Nagin' that made Sridevi a household name, had a lot to do with the iconic dance step in the song 'Main Naagin Tu Sapera'. The dance moves that were choreographed by Saroj Khan become so popular that she got her next project with Sridevi in 'Mr India', particularly for the song 'Hawaa Hawaai' that scaled popularity.
Shah Rukh Khan signature pose
Not many know but Saroj Khan is the one who gave Shah Rukh Khan his signature open arms pose. In an interview, Saroj Khan recalls giving SRK his pose, ''We were shooting 'Baazigar'. He (Shah Rukh) takes the name of land and sky, there's a back shot and he opens his arms. Then he turns and reveals name on his chest by opening his shirt. I gave him this action there."
