More kids are commiting crime
Juvenile offenses are rising steadily in India. In 10 years there is an immense increase in crime committed by juveniles. In 2004, it was 19,229 but the rate of crime has gone up to 33,562 in 2014.
The number of juvenile crimes has increased by over 47 per cent in the last 5 years.
In 2016, there were 892 murder cases and 933 attempted to murder in which the convict was a juvenile. Whereas, 1903 juveniles were
booked in rape cases.

Crime by minors
Repeat offenders among juveniles has come down from 11.2 per cent in 2012 to 5.4 per cent in 2014. Still, there is a considerable increase in crimes done by juveniles.
Major criminal offences which are done by juveniles are robbery, rape, murder, sexual assault, theft and snatching.
In 2014, out of 36735 rape cases, 1989 were done by minors.

Delhi tops the chart
Robbery and rape have seen an immense increase in Delhi.
Robbery cases increased from 71 in 2012 to 287 in 2014. On the other hand, rape cases increased from 57 to 120.

The curse of poverty & illiteracy
Poverty and illiteracy drive many juveniles to commit heinous crimes, such as murder and rape.
Increase in delinquency from economically backward communities has increased slightly from 52.9 per cent to 55.6 per cent from 2010 to 2014.
Out of the total number of juvenile criminals, 55.6 per cent belong to a family whose annual income is less than 25,000 INR.
On the other hand, 53.8 per cent are either illiterate or have received only primary education.

More rape than murder
One juvenile is held for rape every 4 hours in India. There were 44174 detentions for cognizable offences.
In 2012, the of crime trend was Theft-Murder-Rape but the trend has changed in 2013 to Theft-Rape-Murder. The number of rape cases has increased.

More kids are getting arrested everyday
Total of 41385 cognizable crimes were done by juveniles in 2015 that increased to 44174 in 2016. Just in one year, there is an increase of 6.7 per cent.
In the year 2016, 1177 arrests were made for murder and 2054 apprehended for rape. Whereas, 758 juveniles were booked for violent crimes in 2016.

Majority of child criminals are sex offenders
More than 50 per cent of juvenile crimes are sex offences. Most of the crimes done by juveniles are against women.
From the period 2012 to 2014 there were 8676 cases of rape and assault on women.
Rape by juveniles rose by 70 per cent whereas, sexual assault increased by 160 per cent in the year 2012 to 2014.
