Gaza has been under blockade in land, sea and air by Israel since 2007. On May 31, 2010, nine humanitarian volunteers were killed by Israeli commandos while they were trying to break the Israeli siege on Gaza. According to Freedom Fortilla Coalition, all volunteers and crew members are non-violent and are heading to Gaza for civil resistance against the Israeli siege on Gaza since October 7, 2023 which has killed 54,000 people, including women and children
