Britain suffers extreme heat, people rush to beaches- see pics
Extreme heat warnings
The first-ever red extreme heat warning from the Met office was issued last week in Britain for portions of central, northern, eastern and southeast England.
Since Sunday, most of the country and Wales have been under an amber warning, the next level down and some southern Scotland has been included, AFP reported.
People flocked beaches
On Sunday (July 18), a large number of people visited beaches, while in London, the government’s committee met as hospitals waned those services would be overburdened in the following days.
Travel by public transports only
Mayor Sadiq Khan warned Londoners to only take public transportation if ‘absolutely necessary’ because the UK capital is predicted to see the greatest temperatures and ambulance services are in a critical state.
Schools closed
Some schools have been closed as a result, of the excessive temperature alerts, and train travellers have been advised not to travel on Monday and Tuesday. Also, some speed limits have been issued.
Britain under strain due to Covid
British officials are worried about the effects of the extreme heat on people’s health as well as on the hospital system, which is already under strain due to COVID-19 outbreak.
