Blackbuck poaching case: What happened in Kankani village, Rajasthan in 1998?

The infamous incident of the Blackbuck poaching case occurred on the intervening night of October 1 of 1998 in a village called Kankani in Rajasthan. It has haunted Salman Khan and many of his co-actors for two decades.

They reportedly went on a "hunting session" in Bhagoda ki Dhani in Kankani village near Jodhpur.

Salman including Tabu, Saif Ali Khan, Neelam and Sonali Bendre were later accused of killing two blackbucks on the night of October 1, 1998.

Poonamchand Bishnoi, a local from the Bishnoi community that protects blackbucks for religious reasons, claims that he "heard" gunshots.

He also reportedly saw the headlights of a jeep and noticed Salman and Saif in the front seats and Tabu, Neelam and Bendre in the back seats.

Chief Judicial Magistrate Dev Kumar Khatri pronounced a 5-year jail term for Salman Khan along with a penalty of Rs 10,000. Other actors in the case were acquitted.

The Bollywood superstar is now lodged in Jodhpur Central Jail.
