Amitabh Bachchan @80: A look back at Big B's biggest achievements and failures

Bachchan, who ruled the film industry for decades and has a sprawling income of millions, was once declared bankrupt. He shifted his gear from acting to politics and then started his corporation company, ABCL, in which Amitabh invested lumpsum money.

But, unfortunately, the company failed, and he lost a large amount of money. 

Amitabh Bachchan's hard work has finally paid off. After all his struggles, he finally ruled the industry in the 1970s and 80s. In these decades, he was the face of every superhit film, from 'Silsila' to 'Sholey'. 

Looking at his dominance in the film industry, the French director François Truffaut referred to him as a "one-man industry''.

Decades back, when Bachchan was very young, he applied for a job at 'All India Radio', but he was rejected due to his voice.

Amitabh Bachchan's road to success was not easy. He had to keep patient for a very long period of time.

After making his debut with 'Saat Hindustani', he got work in the industry, but none of the films made him a superstar overnight. He delivered twelve consecutive back-to-back flops in a row before 'Zanjeer' happened.

For his contribution to the cinema, the Government of India has bestowed Amitabh with the Padma Shri (1984), the Padma Bhushan (2001), and the Padma Vibhushan( 2015).

It's been more than two decades since Yash Chopra's iconic film 'Mohabbatein' was released. The film on millennials and their love lives is one of Chopra's remarkable films. But, very few know that it is also Bachchan's comeback film.

After years of trouble that led him to bankruptcy, Big B had no film left in his bag. And, back then, Bachchan went to Chopra and asked him for a job.

"I went to Yash ji and said I was without a job. I need it. And this is how Mohabbatein happened to him, Big B shared once.

Recognising his extraordinary career in film, the French government honoured him with the highest civilian honour, the Knight of the Legion of Honor, in 2007.
