NATO allies are discussing options to support freedom of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz, but the alliance is carefully stressing that this is not a formal NATO mission. The discussions come as US President Donald Trump increases pressure on Iran and claims Washington has control over the Strait of Hormuz and the surrounding region. NATO’s top military commander convened a video conference with interested allies to assess what individual countries could contribute to efforts aimed at protecting shipping through the strategic waterway. The alliance says it is facilitating coordination rather than taking military ownership of the operation.

President Donald Trump has unveiled a major new push to accelerate America’s commercial space ambitions, with the United States targeting more than 1,000 rocket launches and spacecraft re-entries from American soil every year by 2030. The new policy directs US government agencies to examine federal land for additional launch and re-entry sites while encouraging greater private-sector participation in space transportation. Trump’s plans extend beyond Earth orbit. NASA has been directed to support commercial transportation to and from the Moon, robotic missions to Mars and eventually commercial human transportation to the Red Planet. The announcement comes as the US-China space race intensifies, with both countries pursuing ambitious lunar programs. Sugar prices are soaring across India, with domestic prices rising by nearly 40% in just two months. The sharp increase has prompted the government to take major emergency measures ahead of the festive season. Retail sugar prices have reportedly climbed from around ₹48.18 per kilogram to ₹55.70 per kilogram, while wholesale and ex-mill prices have also increased across major producing regions. The government has attributed the price surge to lower-than-expected sugar production, weather-related damage, rising festive demand, tighter global supplies and speculation or hoarding. Initial sugar production estimates of around 343 lakh tonnes have reportedly been revised down to approximately 306 lakh tonnes — a shortfall of about 37 lakh tonnes. The Centre has also rejected claims that ethanol production is responsible for the current price spike, pointing out that the share of sugar diverted toward ethanol has declined compared with previous years.
A major building collapse in Hyderabad has left two people dead and another injured, with alleged illegal construction and violations now under investigation. According to reports, an unauthorized seven-storey under-construction building collapsed in Anjaya Nagar near Madhapur Circle, trapping workers beneath the rubble. Two workers reportedly died, while a resident of a neighbouring house sustained injuries and was taken to hospital. The collapse also reportedly damaged or crushed part of an adjacent apartment structure, raising serious questions about the safety of the construction and the conditions under which the building was being erected. Authorities are investigating allegations that the structure was built on a very small plot close to a drainage canal. Reports also indicate that officials had received complaints months earlier, seized the property and halted construction. However, construction allegedly resumed shortly before the collapse despite the reported stop-work order. Rescue and relief teams, including HYDRA, NDRF, fire services and police, have been deployed with heavy machinery to clear the debris and search for anyone who may still be trapped.
