West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee confirmed on Friday that she will be participating in the Niti Aayog's rescheduled governing council meeting in New Delhi on June 17.

The meeting will be chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The meet was initially scheduled for June 16, the day when Eid-ul-Fitr will be celebrated. However the date was later shifted to June 17 after Banerjee and a few other chief ministers, including Andhra Pradesh's N Chandrababu Naidu, had expressed unwillingness to attend the meeting in view of the Ramzan festivities.

"I was the one who had pointed out that Eid will be celebrated on June 16 when the Niti Aayog meeting was earlier scheduled. I had told that we have to participate in prayers and various programmes on Eid and the meeting was then postponed to June 17," Banerjee said while addressing reporters in Kolkata.

She also added that she would reach New Delhi by Saturday night and return on Monday.

PM Modi will chair the fourth meeting of Governing Council of NITI Aayog at Rashtrapati Bhawan on Sunday. The day-long meeting will be attended by Union Ministers, Chief Ministers, Lieutenant Governors of Union Territories and senior officials from &nbspGovernment of India.

The council is expected to discuss subjects including measures taken to double farmers’ income, progress of schemes such as Ayushman Bharat, National Nutrition Mission and Mission Indradhanush, development of aspirational districts and celebration of 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi

Mamata Banerjee to participate in Niti Aayog's meeting

Former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee who was admitted to AIIMS on Tuesday with a kidney tract infection, chest congestion and the urine output on the lower side, is now showing improvement in his condition.&nbsp

A report released by the AIIMS said,"Former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee is stable. He continues to show improvement and is being monitored by a team of doctors".

The BJP veteran leader, however, continues to be in the ICU of the Cardio-thoracic Centre at the hospital.

AIIMS Director Randeep Guleria had, on Wednesday, said the 93-year-old leader was showing significant improvement and the doctors were hopeful of his full recovery in the next few days.

Vajpayee, a diabetic, has one functional kidney. He had suffered a stroke in 2009 that had weakened his cognitive abilities. Subsequently, he had developed dementia.

He was thrice elected the prime minister between 1996 and 1999 and is the only non-Congress prime minister to complete the full term of five years, from 1999 to 2004. As his health deteriorated, he had slowly withdrawn himself from public life and was confined to his residence for years.

&nbspDelhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's wife today alleged that the families of the ministers, who are staging a sit-in at the L-G Secretariat since Monday evening, were not being allowed to meet them.

Sunita Kejriwal said on Twitter that even prisoners are allowed to meet their family members.

According to the chief minister's wife, she, her mother-in-law, Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia wife and Health Minister Satyendar Jain's wife had gone to meet them at the L-G office today, but were not allowed.

"Respected LG sir, are we four ladies, mother and wife of CM, wife of Dy CM and wife of Satyendar Jain threat to your security that you are not allowing us to enter the road leading to your house? Kindly intervene. Please do not feel so threatened by everyone. Regards (sic)," she tweeted.

In another tweet, she said, "@LtGovDelhi sir we waited for long but denied any meeting with our family. Even the prisoners are allowed to meet their family members."

Sources in the L-G office said the ministers' family members can meet them outside the L-G office as no restriction has been imposed on such meetings.

Kejriwal and AAP ministers Manish Sisodia, Gopal Rai and Satyendar Jain have been staying put at the waiting room of the L-G office over their demands, including a direction to IAS officers to end their "strike" and action against those who have struck work.

In counter-protest, BJP MP Pravesh Sahib Singh Verma, three party MLAs and AAP's rebel legislator Kapil Mishra sat on dharna outside the chief minister's office at Delhi Secretariat.

The general administration department of the Delhi goverment today ordered removal of posters and banners put up by the BJP and Mishra following a complaint.

Following a request of Opposition Leader Vijender Gupta, the department provided a TV in the waiting room of the chief minister's office.

Besides Verma and Mishra, BJP MLAs - Gupta, Manjinder Singh Sirsa and Jagdish Pradhan have sat on dharna, saying they will not leave the chief minister's office till their demands are met.

The gang involved in the murder of journalist-activist Gauri Lankesh has a wide network spread across at least five states and comprised at least 60 people, a senior police official said today.

The official belonging to the Special Investigation Team that is probing the sensational case, meanwhile, claimed that Parashuram Waghmare, the last of the six suspects arrested in connection with the killing, was her alleged assassin.

The official also claimed that the same weapon was used to shoot Lankesh, and rationalists Govind Pansare and M M Kalburgi.

He said the organised gang refrained from giving any specific name to their underground organisation.

Claiming that the organisation was composed of people drawn from Hindu right groups, the official said it had around 60 members spread across at least five states but had no name.

"We discovered that this gang has a network in Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Goa and Karnataka," the official said.

He said though the gang recruited people from hardline Hindutva organisations like Maharashtra-based Hindu Jagruti Samiti and Sanatan Sanstha, these outfits may not be directly responsible for the killings.

Both the organisations had denied their role in the killing of Lankesh, Pansare and Kalburgi.

Sujith Kumar alias Praveen used to recruit people for his gang in Karnataka, the official said, adding, it was through him that the entire network was busted including the alleged shooter Parashuram Waghmare from his home at Sindagi in Karnataka.

"Waghmare had shot Lankesh and the forensic report has confirmed that (rationalists) Govind Pansare, M M Kalburgi and Lankesh were murdered with the same weapon," he claimed. He, however, said the weapon was yet to be traced.

Forensic examination can lead to such a conclusion when the hammer of a gun has left identical marks at the rear of a bullet even if the weapon itself has not been found. 
Waghmare's family has denied his involvement in the crime.

Police suspect the involvement of at least three more people in the murder. Hunt is on to find them.

The investigators also found out that the suspects used to carry out their work in a phased manner. It involved recce, weaknesses of the person (target) and finally executing the plan, the official said.

"The process of accomplishing the mission used to take six months to a year. The gang had almost reached the last phase of killing Prof K S Bhagawan (Kannada writer) when we nabbed them," he said. 
Bhagwan had often angered the right-wing outfits with his writings and utterances against Hindu Gods.

Police had uncovered the plot to kill Bhagwan recently and arrested four men, whose suspected role in the Lankesh murder case is also being investigated.

Jnanpith recipient Girish Karnad, who acted in multi-lingual movies too, was in the hit list. His surveillance was in the last phase, he said.

The diary found from this gang revealed that other than Bhagavan and Karnad, former minister and literatteur B T Lalitha Naik, rationalist C S Dwarakanath and pontiff Veerabhadra Channamalla Swamy of Nidumamidi Mutt were also in the hit list for their anti-Hindutva stance.

The Jammu and Kashmir Police on Friday arrested a suspect in connection with the killing of veteran journalist Shujaat Bukhari and two of his PSOs, Kashmir's top police officer said.&nbsp;&nbsp;

The suspect has been identified as Zubair Qadri, Inspector General (IG) Kashmir Swayam Prakash Pani said at a hurriedly called press conference.

He said Qadri was seen in the video stealing the pistol of the PSO who was shot dead along with Bukhari.&nbsp;

"The pistol has since been recovered and he is being questioned about his presence at the scene of the crime. So far, he has not been able to give any convincing answers," he said.

Pani added that the state police had formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) under Deputy Inspector General (central Kashmir) V K Virdi to probe the killing of the editor of Rising Kashmir yesterday.

Pani also described the killing of the journalist as a "terror attack".

Shujaat Bukhari killing: Jammu and Kashmir police arrests one suspect

Bollywood megastar Salman Khan has been sued by an Indian-American promoter for breach of contract in the United States. According to reports, Khan, along with other Bollywood actors like Ranveer Singh, Sonakshi Sinha, Katrina Kaif, Akshay Kumar and Prabhu Deva have been sued for allegedly refusing to perform at a concert in the US despite having taken money for the same. Indian playback singers Udit Narayan, Alka Yagnik and Usha Mangeshkar also face a lawsuit.

The Vibrant Media Group, in its lawsuit against the Bollywood artists and their agents Matrix India Entertainment Consultants Private Limited and Yashraj Films Private Limited, alleged "breach of contract".

According to the complaint, in 2013 the Vibrant Media Group had hired the artists to appear live and perform at the concert 'Celebrating 100 years of Indian Cinema', which was to be held on September 1, 2013.

The show had to be cancelled as Salman Khan was unable to leave India due to legal troubles in Rajasthan. The Vibrant Media Group had agreed to postpone the event, the lawsuit said.

"All calls to Mr Khan, his agents, and other artists, for the return of the funds have gone unanswered," the group said as it sought damages of at least USD 1 million.

According to Vibrant Media, more than USD 200,000 was paid in advance to Salman Khan ahead of the concert that was to be held at the Sears Centre in Chicago on September 1.

Katrina Kaif was paid USD 40,000 and Sonakshi Sinha USD 36,000. None of these funds have been returned, the group alleged.&nbsp

When you make a sequel of a hit franchise, the responsibilities double up. You have to stick to the same format yet bring something new, something that the prequels did not have. You have to ideally take the story forward. Ideally. But such isn't the case when you have Salman Khan as the leading man. Wait, he is not just acting, he is also the producer, lyricist, dialogue writer of Remo D'Souza directed 'Race 3'.&nbsp;

The man is everywhere. When he is not in the scene, people are talking about him. He flies through cities in wingsuits, (not bodybags, okay?) he descends from the sky firm on his feet wearing wrinkle-free suits and nonchalantly kills the bad guys.&nbsp; Salman is everywhere and is everything in Race 3 which is natural considering he is backing the film. But is it enough to make the film work? Not quite.&nbsp;

Despite the histrionics, despite the glitzy sets, lounge style music, high-octane stunts, 'Race 3' falters because of one primary factor- it lacks logic. So looping in hangers on (read:other actors) and aesthetically placing them around Khan doesn't help either. 'Race 3' ultimately falters- because of illogical story, bad acting and a very long unnecessary narrative with forced twists.&nbsp;

For those who are wondering what the abysmal story is about, here its is: Shamsher Singh(Anil Kapoor) is an illegal arms dealer, a gang lord who inhabits an island which looks like Dubai but we are told it's not. Since he is a rich man, he has plenty of enemies, and he trusts his nephew Sikander (Salman 'god' Khan) with his life. He also has two kids of his own- twins Suraj (Saqib Saleem) and Sanjana (Daisy Shah) who do not like how their father is more biased towards Sikander and in their free time- which they seem to have a lot- keep plotting against Sikander and how to remove him from the family will. There is also a stone-faced Yash (Bobby Deol's first film in four years) who is Singh siblings bodyguard-cum-friend-cum-loyalist. And Jacqueline Fernandez who is a blackmailer-cum-intelligence officer-cum-seductress-cum-con woman. You see, the director and the writers have casually thrown in multiple facets to each of the characters. Now Shamsher Singh wants to blackmail a bunch of politicians and head back to India while all Sikander wants to do is protect his family.&nbsp;

&nbsp;

Amid bad Hinglish songs in picturesque places penned especially by bhaijaan and arbid usage of Bhojpuri laced Hindi in dialogues, 'Race 3' is a giant mess that despite the stylised action sequences, shirtless Salman Khan and bonus Bobby Deol, and long legs of Daisy Shah and Jacqueline Fernandez is a two hour forty minutes of torture.&nbsp;

There's really not much to salvage in a film where the dialogues make your ears bleed. Salman Khan in the recent past has been part of films like 'Bajrangi Bhaijaan', Sultan', 'Ek Tha Tiger' - which not only brought in the moolah but also were praised by people. So one really can't figure out why would Khan resort to backing a film which has no story and is so low on entertainment even. At a time when some of his contemporaries are really pushing the envelope with some path-breaking roles, maybe its time for the superstar to step back and reassess his choices because he owes this much to his loyal fan base. His fans deserve something better from the actor and 'Race 3' is definitely not that.&nbsp;

When you make a sequel of a hit franchise, the responsibilities double up. You have to stick to the same format yet bring something new, something that the prequels did not have. You have to ideally take the story forward. Ideally. But such isn't the case when you have Salman Khan as the leading man. Wait, he is not just acting, he is also the producer, lyricist, dialogue writer of Remo D'Souza directed 'Race 3'. The man is everywhere. When he is not in the scene, people are talking about him. He flies through cities in wingsuits, (not bodybags, okay?) he descends from the sky firm on his feet wearing wrinkle-free suits and nonchalantly kills the bad guys. Salman is everywhere and is everything in Race 3 which is natural considering he is backing the film. But is it enough to make the film work? Not quite. Despite the histrionics, despite the glitzy sets, lounge style music, high-octane stunts, 'Race 3' falters because of one primary factor- it lacks logic. So looping in hangers on (read:other actors) and aesthetically placing them around Khan doesn't help either. 'Race 3' ultimately falters- because of illogical story, bad acting and a very long unnecessary narrative with forced twists. For those who are wondering what the abysmal story is about, here its is: Shamsher Singh(Anil Kapoor) is an illegal arms dealer, a gang lord who inhabits an island which looks like Dubai but we are told it's not. Since he is a rich man, he has plenty of enemies, and he trusts his nephew Sikander (Salman 'god' Khan) with his life. He also has two kids of his own- twins Suraj (Saqib Saleem) and Sanjana (Daisy Shah) who do not like how their father is more biased towards Sikander and in their free time- which they seem to have a lot- keep plotting against Sikander and how to remove him from the family will. There is also a stone-faced Yash (Bobby Deol's first film in four years) who is Singh siblings bodyguard-cum-friend-cum-loyalist. And Jacqueline Fernandez who is a blackmailer-cum-intelligence officer-cum-seductress-cum-con woman. You see, the director and the writers have casually thrown in multiple facets to each of the characters. Now Shamsher Singh wants to blackmail a bunch of politicians and head back to India while all Sikander wants to do is protect his family. Amid bad Hinglish songs in picturesque places penned especially by bhaijaan and arbid usage of Bhojpuri laced Hindi in dialogues, 'Race 3' is a giant mess that despite the stylised action sequences, shirtless Salman Khan and bonus Bobby Deol, and long legs of Daisy Shah and Jacqueline Fernandez is a two hour forty minutes of torture. 'Race 3': Even Salman Khan's fans deserve better than this 

More than 1.5 lakh people remained marooned in two flood-hit districts of Manipur as the disaster management department said Friday that the situation in the Imphal Valley worsened with the death toll rising to six.

The Relief and Disaster Management in a report said the intensity of flooding has been increasing at Thoubal and Imphal West districts with 1.5 lakh people being marooned.

About 12,500 houses have been damaged and 5,200 people moved out of the area, according to latest reports.

At least 15,100 people have been provided shelter at 101 relief camps and authorities were ensure essential supplies.

The report said the state disaster response force and the state police, with assistance from the Indian Army and the Assam Rifles, were actively undertaking relief and rescue operations in Irong, Maibam, Uchiwa and Kiyamgei areas.

Officials said the water level continued to rise in Nambol and Thoubal rivers in Bishnupur and Thoubal districts.

Meanwhile, flood waters from state capital Imphal have subsided after breaching an embankment at New Check on area on Wednesday. The damage to the embankment has been repaired.

Chief Minister N Biren Singh was monitoring the situation, an official said.&nbsp

The Bombay High Court on Friday quashed an FIR against actor Armaan Kohli after he submitted an affidavit from jail expressing "remorse and regret" for assaulting his girlfriend.

The court observed that since the victim, Neeru Randhawa, had consented to the quashing of the FIR and did not desire to take the case forward, it was best to quash the FIR. 
 
In the affidavit that Kohli's lawyer brought to court in compliance with its previous order, the actor also assured the court that he will not repeat such behaviour. 
 
Randhawa, who was present in court, also filed an affidavit stating that she and Kohli had decided to amicably settle the matter following the intervention of Kohli's family and their mutual friends. 
 
She also told the court that she has already received some monetary compensation from Kohli's family and that she was to receive some other post-dated cheques from them. 
 
"If the conditions of the settlement are met then I will be happy to take back the case," she told the court. 
 
At this, the bench permitted that the FIR be quashed and directed Arthur Road prison authorities to release Kohli from custody. 
 
"We hope and trust the petitioner (Kohli) will abide by what is stated in the affidavit in its true spirit," the bench said. 
 
The court also directed Kohli to deposit, as costs, an amount of rupees one lakh each with the Tata Memorial Centre's children treatment centre and The National Association of the Blind within 6 months from today. 
 
Kohli's 90-year-old father and yesteryear film producer, Rajkumar Kohli, was in court but said that he was unaware of the settlement. 
 
The court then put Kohli's brother-in-law, Raman Bhandari, in the witness box, who told the court that the family was aware of the amicable settlement. 
 
Kohli was booked under section 326 of the IPC for voluntarily causing hurt after Randhawa complained to the police that she had been assaulted by the actor. 
 
The Metropolitan Magistrate, Mumbai, rejected his bail on Wednesday and Kohli was remanded to judicial custody.&nbsp;

During an interview for a TV channel, Kapoor was asked about the paparazzi culture of today and the way it followed Taimur around all the time. The actor was also asked how different was it when he was growing up, considering he was also a star kid.&nbsp; 
 
Ranbir confessed he was a big fan of Taimur himself and regularly checked online for his photos. " To be honest, I stalk his pictures because I am also obsessed. Because when you see him it just warms your heart. And when he has his haircut or how he walks... I am a Taimur fan,” he said.

Ranbir also spoke about his own childhood and how he and his sister did get attention because of their parents. “We had our own share of public spotlight. Of course, camera phones weren’t there, paparazzi wasn’t there. The kind of attention you got in school, when you went outside, people knew that me and my sister were Rishi Kapoor’s children. It felt good in a way that people looked at us in a nice way. We had a nice time basking in our parents’ glory,” he said. 
 
On the work front, Ranbir is shooting for 'Brahmastra' and waiting for his next film, 'Sanju’s' release on June 29.

Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor's son Taimur Ali Khan is not a darling of the media and the country as a whole but even uncle Ranbir Kapoor is a fan of the little one. During an interview for a TV channel, Kapoor was asked about the paparazzi culture of today and the way it followed Taimur around all the time. The actor was also asked how different was it when he was growing up, considering he was also a star kid. Ranbir confessed he was a big fan of Taimur himself and regularly checked online for his photos. " To be honest, I stalk his pictures because I am also obsessed. Because when you see him it just warms your heart. And when he has his haircut or how he walks... I am a Taimur fan,” he said. “I have had the opportunity and the good fortune to hold him and it felt quite surreal. It felt good in a way that people looked at us in a nice way. We had a nice time basking in our parents’ glory,” he said. Parashuram Waghmare, the last of the six suspects arrested in connection with the killing of journalist-actvist Gauri Lankesh, was her assassin, the SIT probing the sensational case said today.

A senior official in the Special Investigation Team also said the same weapon was used to shoot Lankesh, and rationalists Govind Pansare and M M Kalburgi.

"Waghmare shot Lankesh and the forensic report has confirmed that (rationalists) Govind Pansare, M M Kalburgi and Lankesh were murdered with the same weapon," a senior officer in the SIT told PTI wishing not to be named.

He, however, said the weapon was yet to be traced.

Forensic examination can lead to such a conclusion when the hammer of a gun has left identical marks at the rear of a bullet even if the weapon itself has not been found.

The official said the organisation, composed of people drawn from Hindu right groups, had around 60 members spread across at least five states but had no name.

"We discovered that this gang has a network in Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Goa and Karnataka. We did not find their Uttar Pradesh connection so far," the official said.

He said though it recruited people from hardline Hindutva organisations like Maharashtra-based Hindu Jagruti Samiti and Sanatan Sanstha, these outfits may not be directly responsible for the killings.

Both organisations had denied their role in the killing of the three.

Sujith Kumar alias Praveen used to recruit people for the gang, the official said, adding it was following his interrogation that the network was busted.

The SIT, he said, suspected three more were involved in the killing of Lankesh, who was shot dead at the entrance of her Bengaluru residence on September 5 last year, and a hunt was on for them.

Speculation was rife that Waghmare, whose physical appearance matched that of the man whose image was caught on the CCTV camera at Lankesh's home on the day of the killing, was her assassin.

The officer said the gang meticulously planned its operations before executing them. The entire process of reconnaissance, identifying the weaknesses of the targets and their elimination would take anywhere between 6 months and a year.

"The gang had almost reached the last phase of killing Prof K S Bhagawan (Kannada writer) when we nabbed them," the officer said.

The Karnataka police had uncovered the plot to kill Bhagwan recently, and it was during the interrogation of the four arrested accused that they grew suspicious about their involvement in Lankesh's killing.

Bhagwan had often angered the right-wing outfits with his writing and utterances against Hindu Gods.

The SIT had recently recovered a diary from the suspects which contained a hit list of targets. The name of film and theatre personality Girish Karnad figured in the list, the officer said, adding the Jnanpith awardee's surveillance was in the "last phase".

Other thanBhagvan and Karnad, former minister and literatteur B TLalitha Naik, rationalist C S Dwarakanath and pontiffVeerabhadra Channamalla Swamy of Nidumamidi Mutt were also onthe hit list. All of them have been quite vocal in criticising the Hindu right.

Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao held a meeting with Prime Minister Modi on Friday discussing various issues related to the state.

In one of his first meeting with the Prime Minister after floating the idea of a federal front, the chief minister raised various issues that have remained pending since the formation of Telangana.

The chief minister highlighted the demands that were raised during the formation of the state and were pending with the Centre four years ago.

According to a report, KCR submitted 10 memorandums to Modi, listing out various pending issues.&nbsp

KCR's demand included issues relating to separate High Court for the state, speeding up state Railway Projects and release of funds for backward districts development, among others.&nbsp

The chief minister's office said that the Prime Minister responded positively to the issues raised by him.
