The Election Commission on Monday sought a report over Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's controversial remarks calling the Indian Army “Modi ji ki Sena”.

The district magistrate of Ghaziabad has been asked to furnish a report in this regard, a functionary said.

The report will be submitted to the office of chief electoral officer of Uttar Pradesh which has sought the details after taking cognizance of media reports in this regard.

"Congress ke log aatankwadiyon ko biryani khilate the aur Modi ji ki sena aatankwadiyon ko goli aur gola deti hai. The Congress people use 'ji' to refer to Masood Azhar to encourage terrorism," Adityanath said at an election rally in Ghaziabad on Sunday.

Adityanath's comment came even as the BJP government at the Centre is being accused by the opposition parties of using armed forces for political gains.

Indian family members of those working in the UAE will now be able to get an "expat visa" if the working relative fulfils an income criteria, according to new visa guidelines announced by the UAE.

The UAE Cabinet adopted a decision to amend provisions of the resolution on sponsoring of foreign workers to their families in the country, WAM reported.

According to a statement by the General Secretariat of the Cabinet, the amended provisions now indicate "income" as a requirement for sponsoring family members, as opposed to the previously listed "professions" which allowed workers to sponsor their families. The amendment is in line with international developments and accordance with best practices, it added.

"The decision aims at enhancing family stability of foreign workers and social cohesion, as well as attracting highly skilled workers while maintaining a healthy balance between professional and personal life," the statement continued.

The Cabinet decision, the statement explained, called on relevant government entities to conduct studies to assess and enhance the services provided to residents, including aspects of education and health, and encourage the active participation of their family member in the job market as an alternative to recruiting new workers from abroad, within the existing policies and regulations.

President Ram Nath Kovind addressed the Indian community in Santiago on Sunday and said it has integrated well into the Chilean society and established a good reputation for itself and for India.

“You have maintained your cultural roots and ethos here also. We tremendously value your involvement and initiatives organised by our government through our embassies. Such interaction defines the partnership between all of you and us back at home. This kind of partnership is not only of mutual benefit but is also a crucial building block on our route to the future,” the President said.

“I thank you for your partnership and projecting our shared values. You represent the route to help us achieve a better understanding of Chile and Chileans. And through your affinity with an interest in India you will be able to help us to project India in Chile,” he added.

During his speech, President Kovind noted that his state visit to Chile is important for many reasons. “I am the third Indian President to visit Chile,” he said. “The other reasons include, the 70th anniversary of India-Chile diplomatic relations, the 70th anniversary of the Indian Constitution, the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi and the 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev-the founder of Sikhism.”

President Kovind said that he will be paying tributes to the Father of the Nation at his statue in the Mahatma Gandhi Memorial in the Chilean capital later this evening and tomorrow he is scheduled to speak on the legacy and life of the Mahatma at the University of Chile.

“As the world around us is increasingly falling prey to negative forces of terrorism, violence and greed, universal messages of peace and tolerance by Guru Nanak Dev and Mahatma Gandhi are increasingly relevant, along with the examples of constitutional democracies based on the rule of law, equality and fundamental freedom represented by both India and Chile,” he added.

Chile went through its election process at the end of 2017, while India will be shortly going through general elections which will lead to the formation of the 70th Lok Sabha. Over 900 million electorates will cast their votes in what would be the largest democratic exercise on the planet, the President said.

"In 2022, India will commemorate the 75th anniversary of independence. The country is marching on a transformative journey towards a prosperous 21st century New India," the President stated.

The Government of India has implemented various initiatives such as the Make in India, Digital India, Smart Cities, Goods and Services Tax system, Clean Ganga Mission, Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, Jan Dhan Yojna, Ayushman Bharat (healthcare scheme), Ujjwala Yojana and many others aimed at unleashing a transformative economic growth and social change for ensuring that the roots of progress to reach out to all corners of the country and all sections of the society, he added.

“We have also made significant strides in science and technology with successful Mangalyaan Mission (MOM) and launching a record number of 104 satellites in a single mission. We have achieved major feeds in space explorations. We are now progressing towards mission Gaganyaan -the Indian human space flight,” President Kovind said.

“In our quest for development and progress, the overseas Indian community is an invaluable partner. We appreciate your contribution and cherish your success and achievements,” he added.

A number of initiatives such as the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas, Know India Programme, Scholarships for Diaspora Children and Bharat Ko Janiye quiz have been implemented for facilitating engagement with the Indian Diaspora. The Pravasi Bharatiya Kendra in New Delhi is a one-stop resource center for the Indian Diaspora. The Indian government has also rescued around 4000 people from different crisis-struck nations in the last four years, the President noted.

President Kovind further stated that he will be meeting his Chilean counterpart Sebastian Pinera tomorrow and hoped to have fruitful and productive discussions that would benefit the bilateral relations between the two countries in a constructive and mutually beneficial way.

“In the preliminary discussions, we have already identified focal areas of mutual interest ranging from outer space to health. We are also keen to strengthen our business engagements from IT, solar energy, mining and beyond,” the President said.

President Kovind, who is on a three-day visit to Chile that culminates on April 4, is also slated to address the India-Chile Business Forum tomorrow.
In his address to the diaspora here, the President asked the Indian community to communicate with their children in any regional languages of India in order to ensure that the upcoming generation does not forget its cultural and ethical roots.

President Kovind is currently on the last leg of his three-nation tour. Prior to Chile, the President visited Croatia and Bolivia from March 25th to March 30th.
In his earlier trips, India and Bolivia signed eight Memorandum of Understandings (MoUs) in diverse sectors, including culture, diplomatic visa, diplomatic academies, mining, space, traditional medicine, Bi-Oceanic Railway project, and International Solar Alliance (ISA).

Facebook said its investigation found that individuals used fake accounts and joined various groups to disseminate their content and increase engagement. Their posts included local news and criticism of political opponents such as Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Facebook said.

“While the people behind this activity attempted to conceal their identities, our review found that it was connected to individuals associated with an INC (Indian National Congress) IT Cell,” Nathaniel Gleicher, Head of Cybersecurity Policy at Facebook, said in a statement.

Lok Sabha polls 2019: Facebook removes 687 pages, accounts linked to Congress IT cell ahead of elections

Democracy in India is 70-years-old but a 107-year-old man here is set to vote for the 17th time in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. Ram Prasad Sharma has been continuously voting in the Lok Sabha elections, first conducted in 1951-52. He is the oldest person in the Semra Village in Khandauli town.

Fugitive businessman Vijay Mallya Monday told the Bombay High Court that confiscation of his properties under the newly-enacted Fugitive Economic Offenders Act (FEOA) was draconian and it will not help the creditors.

Mallya had last month approached the high court challenging a January 5 order of a special Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) court declaring him a fugitive economic offender under the FEO Act.

As per provisions of the Act, once a person is declared a fugitive, his properties can be confiscated by the prosecuting agency, Enforcement Directorate (ED). Mallya’s counsel Amit Desai on Monday told a division bench of Justices I A Mahanty and A M Badar that the ED confiscating the properties will not help the creditors.

“Confiscating is draconian. The need of the hour is to deal with the banks and creditors. Mallya does not want the properties to be returned to him. We are only saying that confiscation by the government is not going to solve the problems of the banks and creditors,” Desai said. The ED, while opposing the petition, argued that the object of the Act was to ensure the return of a person who is evading arrest in India.

“These proceedings are to ensure that these persons who commit fraud and leave the country are brought back. The moment Mallya returns to India, the provisions of this Act and the process initiated under it shall become null and void,” ED said. The bench has posted the petition for further hearing on April 24.

However, the next hearing on ED’s application before the special court, seeking permission to start confiscation proceedings, is scheduled for April 8.

In an interview to a news channel on March 29, Prime Minister Modi had expressed satisfaction over the fact that Mallya`s extradition process was in the last stage and the government has recovered money from him.

"We brought in a law that enabled the Indian government to confiscate the property of fugitives in any part of the world. You must`ve seen in the case of Vijay Mallya. He owed banks Rs 9000 crore but the government has confiscated his properties worth Rs 14,000 crore from across the world. Now, he is in trouble because we are taking double the amount," said the Prime Minister in an exclusive interview to a news channel.

Reacting further on Prime Minister Modi`s statement, Mallya also took a dig at BJP spokespersons for speaking against him despite the government`s confirmation of full recovery.

"Saw PM Modi`s interview in which he takes my name and says that even though I owe Rs 9000 crores to Banks, his Govt has attached my assets worth Rs 14,000 crores. So the highest authority has confirmed full recovery. Why do BJP spokesmen continue their rhetoric," he tweeted.

Patiala House Court on March 19 had ordered attachment of Vijay Mallya`s properties in Bengaluru under section 83 in The Code of Criminal Procedure in connection with a FERA (Foreign Exchange Regulation Act) violation case.

The same court had already declared Mallya a proclaimed offender for evading summons in January 2018. The court had also issued an open-ended non-bailable warrant against him for evading summons and law of the land in 2017.

As per the case registered by the Enforcement Directorate, Mallya had allegedly paid US $200,000 to a British firm and some European countries for displaying the logo of his now defunct Kingfisher airline in Formula One World Championships in London in 1996, 1997, and 1998.

The investigating agency also claimed that the money was paid without prior approval from the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) in violation of the FERA norms.

Special CBI Judge Arvind Kumar, while granting the bail to the duo, directed them to furnish personal bail bonds of Rs 5 lakh each and surety of a like amount.

Furthermore, the court imposed bail conditions on both of them, whereby the duo cannot leave the country without permission. They will have to join the investigation when called upon by the authorities, the court stated.

The court also ordered that the accused persons shall not tamper with evidence or influence witnesses.

In the previous hearing on Thursday, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) had sought custodial interrogation of Vadra in connection with the money laundering case.ED told a special CBI court that Vadra was harassing the investigative agency and countered his claims of "political witch hunt" and harassment during the hearing of the anticipatory bail pleas of Vadra and his associate.

"Harassment is being caused by Robert Vadra. We say let him come and join the investigation. It is held in camera and he comes for the sessions accompanied by many people including his wife and then he claims that he is `hounded and harassed` to subserve political ends. Vadra is attempting to over-awe the system," said Special Public Prosecutor (SPP) DP Singh on behalf of the ED.

The court was hearing the anticipatory bail pleas filed by Vadra, the brother-in-law of Congress president Rahul Gandhi, and his aide Manoj Arora who are being probed by the ED in the money laundering case. ED showed the money trail of the London property in question.

"Property was bought by Sanjay Bhandari through his company Syntac. The property was then sold to Vertex for 1.9 million pounds through a share purchase. Later, the renovation was carried out with 65 thousand pounds. It was later sold for the same amount despite renovations by CC Thampi through his company Skylight Dubai. The money later returned to Syntac, thus a round trip was established," SPP Singh told the court.

The agency also showed a mail trail between the accused allegedly discussing the London property. "Vipul Beriwala, Sanjeev Sharma and Jagdish Sharma are main players in the scam and whatever they are talking about clearly shows that the discussion of the real estate deal. They were then in the UK itself," SPP Singh said in the court.

A suspected terrorist, who made an abortive attempt to target a CRPF convoy on Jammu-Srinagar national highway on Saturday, was arrested Monday and is being questioned, police sources said.

A CRPF vehicle had suffered slight damage when a Santro car went up in flames after an explosion at Tethar village, seven km from Banihal, shortly after a Jammu-bound convoy crossed the Jawahar Tunnel, the gateway to Kashmir valley.

The driver of the private vehicle managed to flee before the fire engulfed the vehicle and turned it into a mangled heap of iron.

The inspection of the vehicle and surrounding areas led to the recovery of LPG cylinders, a jerrycan filled with petrol, gelatin stick, urea and sulphur -- material which is used for fabricating the Improvised Explosive Devices (IED), police said.

A massive hunt was launched and finally the suspected terrorist was arrested in the early hours of Monday and is being questioned, the sources said.

The sources, however, did not reveal whether the arrest was made from Banihal or somewhere else.

A letter recovered from the scene had identified the driver as a Hizbul Mujahideen operative, who mentioned his intention to carry out a February 14 Pulwama type terror attack which left 40 CRPF personnel dead after a terrorist of Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) outfit drove an explosive-laden vehicle and targeted a CRPF convoy.

The forensic experts and a team of National Investigation Agency (NIA) visited Banihal and inspected the scene to help in the investigation.

Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya Monday launched a veiled attack on SP chief Akhilesh Yadav, asking how a person disloyal to his father could forge a relationship of bua-bhatija and wondered how long this tie would last.

He claimed that BSP chief Mayawati and Yadav have become "weak" by forging the SP-BSP-RLD alliance.

"Neither Akhilesh Yadav has been able to strengthen neither himself, nor Mayawati in the 'gathbandhan'. In fact, both have become weak by forging this alliance. A person who has not been loyal to his father and uncle, how can he forge a fake relationship of bua (aunt) and bhatija (nephew)? Do you think that such a relationship will go on?" Maurya told PTI in an interview.

Akhilesh Yadav and Mayawati are often referred to as bua-bhatija.

"They are disturbed over whether the SP's votes will be transferred to the BSP or vice-versa. And, when they come to know that transfer of votes is hitting a roadblock, then their tension and blood pressure level shoot up," he added.

The BJP leader coined new names for the rival political parties, describing the SP as 'Samaapt Party', the BSP as 'Bilkul Samaapt Party' and the RLD as 'Roj Ludhaktaa Dal'. He said the character of the three parties was in front of everyone.

He claimed that SP and BSP leaders were active only on social media, unlike BJP leaders who toil on the ground and had a vision for the country.
When asked to about the threat posed by the alliance of anti-BJP parties, Maurya said, "We do not consider the gathbandhan a threat or a challenge to the BJP, either in the western part of the state or the eastern part, northern or southern part. I am of the view that along with the SP, BSP, RLD, even the Congress is a part of the alliance."

He said the alliance has generated a false alarm that specific castes are with the SP, a particular community is with the BSP, and Muslim votes will add to their tally.

"But, they have forgotten that the madness of casteism which they spread till 2014 has been effectively overpowered by our nationalism, developmentalism, gareebvaad (concern for the poor) and kisaanwaad (concern for the farmers)," Maurya said, exuded confidence that the margin of victory in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls will exceed that of 2014.

On the saffron party's chances in the Congress bastions of Amethi and Rae Bareli, the senior state BJP leader said, "We are winning Amethi and Rae Bareli. On Azamgarh seat, our candidate will be declared. Our margin of defeat in Azamgarh was less in 2014, and this time, we nuetralised it. All the seats where the party had lost in 2014 will be reclaimed."

Referring to the Congress's minimum income scheme, he said it does not suit any Congress leader, especially those born in the Gandhi family, to speaking about poverty alleviation, as in 10 years of the Manmohan Singh government, they were unable to provide justice to the country's poor.

"It is that family which did injustice to the people of the country. Today when steps have been taken to give justice, they are becoming restless, as those who are out on bail are apprehensive of going to Tihar jail," Maurya said.

"None of the rival political parties' aim is to give justice to the people of the country or eradicate poverty, terrorism and corruption. Their only aim is to stop Narendra Modi from becoming the prime minister, while the people want Modiji to become the next prime minister," the deputy chief minister said.

He said none of the BJP's political opponents had the courage to question the party on the issue of development, national security and welfare programmes initiated to eradicate poverty, and the success of the Kumbh mela held in Allahabad.

Maurya said the opposition today is devoid of any issue, leader and policy.

How can person disloyal to father forge bua-bhatija relationship: Keshav Prasad Maurya on Akhilesh

Prime Minister Narendra Modi Monday launched a broadside against the Congress, accusing it of branding "peace-loving Hindus" as terrorists and insulting those who follow the religion.

Launching the BJP-Shiv Sena alliance's Lok Sabha poll campaign in Maharashtra at a public rally here, Modi said the Congress coined the term 'Hindu terror'.

"Leaders of that party are now scared of contesting from constituencies dominated by majority (Hindu) population," Modi said.

His barb was apparently directed at Congress chief Rahul Gandhi, who will be contesting the Lok Sabha polls from Wayanad constituency in Kerala, besides Amethi in Uttar Pradesh.

"Congress used the term 'Hindu terror'...It labelled the peace-loving Hindus as terrorists...Is there a single incident of Hindu terrorism?" Modi said.

"Congress insulted Hindus...People have decided to punish it in election...Hence, it is scared of fielding candidate from constituencies dominated by majority population," Modi added.

He accused the Congress and NCP of questioning the valour of soldiers and insulting them after the Pulwama terror attack and Balakot air strike.

These parties spoke language that was suitable to be used in Pakistan, he added.

Modi also hit out at NCP chief Sharad Pawar, who he said, chose not to contest the Lok Sabha election after deciding to do so first.

This was because the NCP chief sensed an unfavourable situation, Modi said, taunting the latter for "shying away" from poll fight.

Modi also claimed there was a family feud in the Pawar family and that Pawar was losing his grip on the party.

Modi also termed the Congress' "abuse" that he was a "chowkidar of toilets" as an "ornament" for him.
