LONDON (Reuters) -It was business as usual for top seed Novak Djokovic as the Serbian dismantled the challenge of Chile`s Cristian Garin with a 6-2 6-4 6-2 victory to reach the last eight at Wimbledon and keep his title defence intact at the grasscourt major. The world No.1, who won the last two men`s singles titles at the All England Club, will play his 50th Grand Slam quarter-final when he faces unseeded Hungarian Marton Fucsovics, who ousted Russian fifth seed Andrey Rublev 6-3 4-6 4-6 6-0 6-3. Only the 39-year-old Roger Federer, an eight-time winner at Wimbledon, has reached more Grand Slam quarter-finals. The 25-year-old Garin, seeded 17th, had never played Djokovic on grass before and soon realised he did not have the resources to trouble the Serbian on a sun-baked Centre Court. Djokovic won the first eight points and never took his foot off the pedal during the one hour 48 minute contest, dominating from the baseline and the net against the Chilean. The Serbian repeatedly brought Garin, who won his first point in the third game to huge applause, up to the net with deceptive drop shots and sliced returns only to pass or lob him. In his inimitable way, Djokovic kept a lid on his unforced errors (23) while hitting 28 winners - double his opponent`s tally - and never lost his grip on the match. He hit nine aces, lost only 13 points on his own serve and broke his opponent five times to stay on course for a 20th Grand Slam title that would tie him with his great rivals Federer and Rafa Nadal for the most major men`s titles. A sixth Wimbledon trophy on Sunday would also move the 34-year-old closer to the Golden Slam, with the Tokyo Olympics and the U.S. Open to be played on his favourite hard courts. The reigning Australian Open and Roland Garros winner did not hide the fact that he was feeling at his best. "Confidence level is very, very high obviously after winning the French Open," he said in his on-court interview. "That was probably one of the biggest wins under those kinds of circumstances that I`ve played in. Particularly in the second week - two five-setters, two four-setters. "It took a lot out of me but, at the same time, it gave me wings. It gave me the confidence boost that I needed for Wimbledon and my energy levels are really good. I`m pleased. "This is the quickest surface in sports so obviously coming from clay takes a little bit of time to adapt to adjust your game and to make sure that you`re at your best. "So the further the tournament goes I feel like I`m more comfortable playing on grass. I look forward to the next challenge." (Reporting by Sudipto Ganguly in Mumbai; Editing by Ken Ferris)

Prime Minister Narendra Modi would be sharing his thoughts at the CoWIN Global Conclave to be held on Monday as India will offer the CoWIN platform as a digital public good to other countries to run their own COVID-19 inoculation drives.

About 50 countries, including Canada, Mexico, Nigeria, Panama and Uganda, have shown interest in adopting CoWIN, a digital platform, to run their vaccination drives, Dr R S Sharma, the CEO of the National Health Authority (NHA), had said recently, adding that India is ready to share the open-source software for free.

The prime minister has directed officials to create an open-source version of the platform and give it to any country that wants it for free, Sharma had said.

"We are elated to announce that Hon'ble PM @narendramodi would be sharing his thoughts on #CoWINGlobalConclave as India offers #CoWIN as a digital public good to the world to combat #COVID19," the NHA said in a tweet.

Estonia's envoy Katrin Kivi has said, "any vaccine is better than no vaccine" after the European Union launched a digital COVID certificate system designed to help citizens travel more freely across the 27-nation bloc and open up summer tourism.

The EU digital COVID certificate, which can be on a smartphone or printed out, takes the form of a QR-code, which indicates if a traveller has been fully vaccinated against COVID-19, has received a recent negative test result, or has immunity due to recent recovery from a COVID-19 infection.

The certificate is designed to be free of charge, issued and valid in all EU countries, and set out in the national language and in English. It also extends to non-EU countries of the border-free Schengen zone - Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, and Switzerland.

While the bloc uses the European Medicines Agency's (EMA) list that has listed four, each member country is free to put any vaccine on the national list.

Speaking to our diplomatic correspondent Sidhant Sibal, envoy Katrin Kivi said, "India has been giving so many vaccines to Indians and under COVAX scheme. It would be absolutely natural that Covishield will get recognition by WHO and EMA".

Estonia is the first country in Europe that has approved India-made Covishield and Covaxin on its national travel list. That means, any Indian vaccinated with these two vaccines will be allowed in the country subjected to other conditions in the Schengen rules.

WION: India-made vaccine Covishield and Covaxin have been approved by your country for Covid vaccine certificates. If you can give us the details?

Katrin Kivi: Thank you for inviting me, namaste. Indeed, the Estonia government had decided already on June 21 to acknowledge the vaccine certificates of countries like India. If travellers from these countries are able to present on the border covid vaccination certificate which has been approved officially by their governments and vaccines which are administered in this country. India is vaccinating Indians with Covishield and Covaxin, the citizens can get certificates concerning both vaccines.

The vaccine certificate only helps people to escape the mandatory quarantine at the border, it is not like a new sort of visa and it will not open automatically issuing or resuming third country person Schengen visas as of tourist. It is related with those Indian citizens already have a valid visa, who may be even are Estonian temporary or permanent resident. They can travel easily if they can present at the border the certificate. Other issue is EU green pass, it was meant to ease travel inside and in between EU member states.

Like in India you have different rules and restrictions between various states and territories, EU member states also had issued restrictions and travel was not so easy. Now with member states have decided to take these vaccines that are acknowledged by European medicine agencies into EU green pass, but it is not way a precondition or required by Indian citizens on the border. This is just for all EU members vaccinated with 4 vaccines. Until now we have only Pfizer, Moderna, AstraZeneca, and J&J on the green pass.

In order for India to get Covishield on the green pass approved vaccines, the Indian government should request a European medicines agency to add Covishield into this list, to do that particular file should be handed over. I really encourage India to do it, because India has been giving so many vaccines to Indians and to Covax. It would be absolutely natural that Covishield will get recognition by WHO and EMA.

WION: What was the thought process in allowing all nationally recognised vaccines?

Katrin Kivi: This is mainly aimed to protect the help of Estonians, and other citizens who are travelling to Estonia because it is very sure any vaccine is better than not being vaccinated. Estonian govt has just decided to acknowledge it and even we have a lot of border movement with Russia and they have sputnik which is administered. If Russians are travelling to Estonia, and they have a valid reason, relatives living in Estonia, they can present this certificate and escape the quarantine. Otherwise, they must be quarantined or isolated or not having any contact. If they are fully vaccinated and having negative PCR tests, why should they be isolated, that was the reason.

WION: what do you have to say about the EU Green pass. The pass could have used WHO list, instead of EMA list?

Katrin Kivi: This decision has been made together conjointly with all EU member states especially Schengen states. According to our commonly agreed rules, the European medicines agency or EMA has a say here, which vaccines are included in the green pass. This agency is not a political agency, it is a purely medical scientific agency and it works for the benefit of all people who are travelling inside the European Union. If Indian residents in Estonia, would be vaccinated , they could also get this green pass. In Estonia, we are vaccinating only with 4 vaccines. The main goal was to ease travel against the member states, so it not against the third country and not required or a pre-requisite or a must on the border.

WION: Are Indians allowed in Estonia?

Katrin Kivi: It is of course still a tricky question and fully related to the situation of pandemic. It means Indians who already have a valid Schengen visa or who are Estonian resident, who need to go to Estonia for work or meet relatives or health issue of close people, they are allowed to enter Estonia. As for new visas, Estonia embassy consular section has not yet resumed, issuing C visas, visas for touristic or non-essential travel. This may need some time, it may happen but we look at covid numbers and stick to the exiting Schengen rules, under which tourism is not open.

WION: What kind of cooperation between India, and Estonia? Both countries are non-permanent members of the UNSC, in fact, Estonia was the president just last month.

Katrin Kivi: You mention the good cooperation in the United Nations Security council, indeed, our second chairmanship just finished and one of the two most important debates in June, one on Afghanistan in which EAM Jaishankar took the floor, and the second was just two days ago on cybersecurity. These topics, Estonia and India understand are crucial in keeping the world safe and be virtual or physical space --we need rules and good state behaviour inside cyberspace.

Estonian and Indian relations in the current year will be marked by few other happy moments, namely, India is preparing to open its embassy in our capital, we welcome the Indian minister of external affairs. This year we also celebrate the 30 years of establishing diplomatic relations and last but not least we are waiting to unveil the statue of Mahatma Gandhi and our two nations have a link and understanding that struggle, the battle for the restoration of Independence should be non-violent and fully peacefully.

Dominica Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit has termed "total nonsense" the claims that his government was involved in alleged abduction of diamantaire Mehul Choksi, wanted in Rs 13,5000 crore scam in Punjab National Bank, from Antigua and Barbuda, neighbouring local media there reported.

In his weekly "annou palay" show, Skerrit said his government will allow the court to carry out its process regarding Choksi and gave the assurance that his rights and obligations will be respected, Dominica News Online reported.

Skerrit refuted the allegations of a plot between India and Dominica government to kidnap Choksi from neighbouring Caribbean country Antigua and Barbuda, where he was staying since 2018 as a citizen, after fleeing from India, and bring him to Dominica, the news portal reported.

"To say that the government of Dominica and the government of Antigua along with India colluded in any way, give me a break, that's total nonsense. We don't get involved ourselves in those kinds of activities, those practices, not at all. I mean that is absurd and we reject it and it is unfortunate that anybody would want to propagate this unsubstantiated claim by a gentleman who is before the courts," he was quoted as saying by Dominica News Online.

He further said "whether it would be fair for a local who commits murder in Dominica and flees to another country, is allowed to roam free or instead be apprehended and sent back to Dominica to face his charges".

Citing the case of a Dominica citizen wanted by the United States whose extradition proceedings are going on in courts to counter opposition on Choksi, Skerrit said the country cannot treat people differently depending on who they are or how much money they may have.

"All of us are subjected to the laws irrespective of our position or how much money we may have or how much we don't have. And I believe that in this circumstance…Dominica has a right and obligation to apprehend this person and bring the person before the courts and let the courts determine," he said.

"We here in Dominica with the opposition talking about Choksi but there is a young boy from Grand Bay…Where there is an extradition request by the United States government on allegations that he committed a crime in St Thomas and we are mandated and obligated to apprehend him.

"And the police acted on the instruction of the DPP (Director of Public Prosecutions) arrested the young man and he is remanded at the state prison awaiting his extradition hearing. His lawyers will fight his case. If the courts believe that there is no reason to extradite him to the United States then he will go freely," Skerrit said.

Choksi's lawyer in Dominica Justin Simon claimed that United Kingdom's Metropolitan Police, known as Scotland Yard, has started looking into allegations of torture and kidnapping of Choksi as citizens there were allegedly part of the plot, the news site reported.

Simon told media that there will be international implications if Dominica or Antigua turns out to be involved in the alleged plot, it said.

This mission highlighted the significance of a home-grown satellite communication device that helps fishermen in distress, by alerting the concerned authorities.

The Maritime Rescue Co-ordination Centre (MRCC) Port Blair received an unregistered DAT (Distress Alert Transmitter) alert around Wednesday noon.

As the DAT was unregistered, its data was unavailable with the ICG, hence the details were sought from the fisheries department.

On learning that the said vessel was ‘RSN-TWO’, which left Port Blair earlier in the week for fishing, ICG tasked ship C-422 from Kamorta, besides ship Vishwast and Dornier aircraft for Search and Rescue. On locating the boat off Tillanchong island and establishing contact, early on Thursday, it was learnt that the boat had machinery failure.

AN ICG team that boarded the distressed vessel provided basic necessities and first aid, following which attempts were made to rectify the defect.

Due to the non-availability of specific spares the on-site repair was not possible, also considering the inclement weather conditions, the distressed vessel was towed for passage to Kamorta, by ICGS Vishwast.

Jointly developed by the Indian Space Research Organization(ISRO) and Indian Coast Guard, the DAT(Distress Alert Transponder) is a low-cost and effective satellite transmitter built for fishermen.

At a press of a button, this device transmits distress alerts to the Search and Rescue Authorities through the INSAT series of satellites. The Indian Coast Guard has been emphasizing that fishermen must carry the DAT device and also register it for effective, timely search and rescue.

The Indian National Satellite (INSAT) system is one of the largest domestic communication satellite systems in the Asia-Pacific region with multiple operational communication satellites placed in Geo-stationary orbit. Established in 1983 with the commissioning of INSAT-1B, it initiated a major revolution in India’s communications sector and sustained the same later.

According to ISRO, the INSAT system with more than 200 transponders in the C, Extended C and Ku-bands provides services to telecommunications, television broadcasting, satellite news-gathering, societal applications, weather forecasting, disaster warning and Search and Rescue operations.

In an air-sea coordinated operation, the Indian Coast Guard(ICG) rescued a distressed fishing vessel ‘RSN-TWO’ and its seven crew, on Thursday. The vessel was off Tillanchong Island, nearly 350 Km south of Port Blair.

MADRID (Reuters) - A Spanish court on Thursday ordered European soccer`s governing body UEFA to cancel all legal sanctions imposed on Real Madrid, Barcelona and Juventus for planning the creation of the breakaway European Super League. The court also ordered UEFA to not take any steps to try and exclude the three clubs, who are the last ones standing from the 12 teams that were originally behind the breakaway league, from its different competitions, including the Champions League. By Toby Davis LONDON (Reuters) - World number one Ash Barty moved into the third round at Wimbledon but not without a battle as she overcame spirited Russian Anna Blinkova and her own inconsistency in a 6-4 6-3 win on Thursday. The top seed never looked in danger against the 89th-ranked Blinkova, but it was still not plain sailing for the Australian scrapper. Her serve, so often a dependable weapon, was at times wayward, as she hit nine double faults and was broken three times, while her 33 unforced errors suggest she has some way to go to get fully sharp on the grass. Barty, whose sole Grand Slam title came at the 2019 French Open, has never gone beyond the last 16 at Wimbledon. She ultimately had too much firepower for Blinkova, however, and wrapped up victory after an hour and 30 minutes when her opponent swiped a forehand long. "A few things didn`t feel quite right today. That`s half the battle in sport, being able to find a way when it`s not feeling all that great," Barty told reporters. "I felt like when my back was against the wall today I was able to bring the good stuff. It just wasn`t quite there all the time." Next up for Barty will be an encounter with 64th-ranked Czech Katerina Siniakova, who booked her spot in the third round with a 4-6 6-2 6-2 win over CoCo Vandeweghe. Yet there are certainly some creases to iron out in the Australian`s game before then. IMPROVEMENT NEEDED After taking 49 weeks out of the sport as tennis closed down due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Barty returned to the tour exhibiting the sort of consistency that has seen her finish the campaign at the top of the rankings for the last two years. This season she has won more titles, reached more finals and beaten more top-10 opponents than anyone else on tour, but against Blinkova there was room for improvement. Barty has fired down more aces than anyone this year, but her serve was vulnerable in the afternoon sun on Centre Court. She was broken twice in the opening set, with some of her issues self-imposed as the double fault count mounted. "Not my best serving day. But that happens as well. I felt like I was just out of rhythm a little bit. A few technical things weren`t quite feeling spot on," she said. "But you have those days where some days you feel like you`re eight-foot tall and can`t miss the box. Other days you feel like you`re three-foot-nothing, just getting (the ball) over the net is a bit of a battle." Barty eventually came through the opener with three breaks of her own and then threatened to run away with the match as she won four games in a row to take a 2-0 lead at the start of the second set. Blinkova dug in, however, hitting back against the Barty serve to level at 2-2 and holding firm until the top seed turned the screw with two further breaks to close out the contest.
