Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said that the government prevailing during the 2008 Mumbai attacks had declined the plan of surgical strikes that was offered to the then prime minister.

Citing an Air Force official working at a high position in 2008, he said that the government were offered to conduct surgical strikes in responseto the deadly terror attacks on Mumbai. However, thethen governmentrefused to carry out the counter attacks on Pakistan.

While addressing a rally in Jamnagar, Gujarat, PM Modi said: "Someone who served at a high position in our Air Force has said that after 26/11 they went to the then PM with a plan for surgical strikes. Sadly, the then Government did not show courage to do that."

"When we were attacked in Uri, see how we answered terrorists," he added.

PM Modi further said that since the BJP government came to power in Gujarat, the state is ahead in employment opportunities.

He said parts of Gujarat have drawn people from all parts of the country.

He said, "We are focusing on Padhai for students, Kamai for the youth and Davai for the elderly." He added that his government had transformed the education sector of the state.

Hitting out at the Congress, he highlightedCongress's recent poll defeats, saying:"It is because they were not delivering on people's aspirations."

Talking about the Saurashtra Narmada Avataran Irrigation, SAUNI, he said the Congress never envisioned anything like that.

He praised Sardar Patel for his efforts on integrated the nation,adding, "If it was not for Sardar Patel where would we be?"
