In a major crackdown, the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) launched a raid in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, on Wednesday (July 8, 2026), where an unlicensed sauce manufacturing unit was found operating in highly unhygienic conditions. Following the action, the Food Safety Department collected sauce samples for testing. All substandard sauce was destroyed on the spot, and legal action has been initiated against those responsible.
Food and pickle factories sealed in Kanpur
Similarly, on Tuesday (July 9, 2026), the Food Safety and Drug Administration launched a major crackdown on pickle manufacturing units in Kanpur, sealing four units for violating food safety norms.
The Food Safety Department team has raided a famous pickle manufacturing unit in the Jhakarkati area of the city and allegedly found pickles being produced in unhygienic conditions using rotten raw materials, in violation of food safety norms.
During the inspection, officials found large quantities of decaying mangoes, lemons, carrots, cauliflowers and other vegetables stored in foul-smelling surroundings while food products were being prepared.
Authorities destroyed nearly 3,000 kg of spoiled raw materials, estimated at around Rs 2.4 lakh, at the site. They also seized prepared pickles valued at about Rs 4 lakh and collected five samples for laboratory testing.

Another Food Safety Department team inspected Saroj Narayan Enterprises and collected six samples of green chilli sauce, snack sauce and soya sauce for testing. Officials seized 200 litres of green chilli sauce worth Rs 20,000 and 100 litres of snack sauce valued at Rs 12,000 after finding that the packaging did not carry mandatory information, including the packing date, best-before date and list of ingredients. The seized products were placed under the manufacturer's custody.
A separate team raided Spark Home Products, where sauces were allegedly being produced in unhygienic conditions using artificial colours. Officials found the unit operating without a valid food licence and seized 300 litres of chilli sauce, 200 litres of tomato sauce and 100 litres of soya sauce. They also destroyed 380 litres of sauce deemed unfit for consumption.
