<p><strong>Telangana Lok Sabha elections Results 2024: Out of the 17 seats in the southern state of Telangana, BJP and Congress are leading in eight each, while&nbsp;All India Majlis-E-Ittehadul Muslimeen is ahead in one at the time of writing, as counting continues on Tuesday (June 4).</strong></p>

<p>Telangana went to the polls&nbsp;for the Lok Sabha elections on May 13. As per the Election Commission of India, the voter turnout in the state was around 66 per cent, where polling was held in the third phase of the Lok Sabha elections 2024.</p>

<p>The state witnessed 66.40 per cent of voting in the 2019 elections to the Lok Sabha. The Bharat Rashtra Samithi won nine out of the 17 seats, followed by BJP that got&nbsp;four, while Congress emerged victorious on&nbsp;three seats and MIM on one seat.</p>

<p><strong>Assam Lok Sabha elections 2024: In the northeastern state of Assam, the BJP wins&nbsp;11 out of 14 seats in the Lok Sabha Elections.</strong></p>

<p>The elections in Assam were conducted in three phases from April 19 to May 7, to elect 14 members to the 18th Lok Sabha.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Assam accounts for the largest share of Lok Sabha seats—14 of 25 Lok Sabha seats—in the eight northeastern states.&nbsp;</p>

<p>In the 2019 Lok Sabha polls, the BJP and its allies in National Democratic Alliance (NDA) and the North East Democratic Alliance won 19 seats and the Congress won only four—three in Assam and one in Meghalaya.</p>

<p>The BJP also bagged a notable vote share of 36 per cent while the Congress bagged 35.4 per cent of the votes.</p>

<p>Some of the prominent faces contesting the Lok Sabha polls from Assam include former CM of Assam and BJP candidate from Dibrugarh Sarbananda Sonowal, Congress candidate Gaurav Gogoi (son of former CM of Assam Tarun Gogoi) from Jorhat, Phani Bhushan Choudhury of AGP-BJP, Deep Bayan of Congress and Manoranjan Talukdar of CPI(M).

<p>This time, some of the key constituencies in the elections are Varanasi, Wayanad, Rae Bareli, Amethi,&nbsp;Mandi, North East Delhi, Bangalore South, Hassan, Baramulla, and Gandhinagar.</p>

<p>Prime Minister Narendra Modi won in Varanasi, defeating Congress' Ajay Rai by a margin of&nbsp;152,513 votes. In Gujarat's Gandhinagar, Union Home Minister Amit Shah defeated Congress leader Sonal Ramanbhai Patel by a margin of&nbsp;744,716 votes.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Meanwhile, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi defeated CPI's Annie Raja to win the Wayanad constituency. Gandhi also won in the Rae Bareli constituency.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Khalistani terrorist and Waris Punjab De chief Amritpal Singh is set to contest from Punjab's Khadoor Sahib constituency in the Lok Sabha elections as an Independent candidate, claimed his counsel on Wednesday (Apr 24).</p>

<p>Singh's legal counsel Rajdev Singh Khalsa said that he met the radical Sikh preacher in Dibrugarh prison on Wednesday where he requested him to fight the polls in the interest&nbsp;of 'Khalsa Panth'.</p>

<p>"I met bhai sahab (Amritpal Singh) in Dibrugarh central jail today and during the meeting, I requested bhai sahab that in the interest&nbsp;of 'Khalsa Panth', he should fight elections this time from Khadoor Sahib to become a member of parliament," news agency PTI quoted him as saying.</p>

<p>"Bhai sahab accepted my request in the Panthic interests... He will fight as an Independent candidate," claimed Khalsa.</p>

<p>However, the Khalistani separatist's father Tarsem Singh stated that he would comment on the reports only after meeting his son, which is due on Thursday, as Singh in the past had never exhibited an inclination towards joining politics.</p>

<h2><strong>Charges against Amritpal Singh</strong></h2>

<p>The head of the 'Waris Punjab De' outfit was arrested in April 2023. He along with nine others were detained under the stringent National Security Act (NSA).</p>

<p>They are all currently lodged in Assam's Dibrugarh jail.</p>

<p>Singh, who went by the name of slain Khalistani terrorist Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale, was apprehended after almost a month-long manhunt in Moga's Rode village in April last year.</p>

<p>The Khalistan supporter, in March 2023, had managed to escape police in the Jalandhar district by changing appearances and switching vehicles.</p>

<p>The Punjab Police had last year launched the crackdown following the incident where Amritpal Singh and his supporters, some of whom were armed with swords and guns, broke past barricades and stormed into the police station located on the outskirts of Amritsar city.</p>

<p>They engaged in a skirmish with police to free one of Singh's aides Lovepreet Singh Toofan.</p>

<p>He along with his associates were detained under multiple criminal cases, including attempts to murder, attacks on police personnel, spreading disharmony among classes and also creating obstructions in the lawful discharge of duty by public servants.</p>
