The England white-ball skipper has opted not to participate in the SA20 owing to workload issues. The SA20 is likely to take place in January which could collide with England’s warm-up fixtures before the 2025 Champions Trophy.

Earlier, Sri Lanka won the toss and elected to bat first. The decision, however, was proved costly instantly as Mohammed Siraj struck with the first ball of the match. Siraj dismissed Pathum Nissanka caught behind and bowled a wicket-maiden over first up.

Avishka Fernando and Kusal Medal then added 74 runs for the second wicket before Sundar dismissed both of them in space of five runs.

Axar Patel then joined the party with the wicket of Sadeera Samarawickrama on a team score of 111. Kuldeep Yadav was the next wicket taker and Sundar followed him with one of his own as Sri Lanka lost six of 136 in about 35 overs.

Dunith Wellalage and Kamindu Mendis then added 72 runs for the eighth wicket and took SL past 200 before Kuldeep sent back Wellalage in 47th over.

Kamindu Mendis and Akila Dananjaya played some strokes in the end overs, adding quickfire 31 runs in 3.4 overs as SL closed in on 250.&nbsp;

A couple of runouts in the last over, however, meant Sri Lanka scored 240/9 in their 50 overs. Kamindu and Fernando top scored for the home team with 40 each, while Wellalage scored 39.

For India, Sundar finished with 3/30 in 10 overs, while Kuldeep took 2/33 in his 10. Apart from them, Siraj and Axar also took one wicket each.

The new facilities will include 45 practice pitches, indoor cricket pitches, an Olympic-size swimming pool and state-of-the-art training facilities. It is to be noted that India also didn't travel to Pakistan for the Asia Cup 2023 and its matches were instead held in Sri Lanka including the final. Pakistan, however, later on, travelled to India for the 2023 ODI World Cup.

It will be interesting for&nbsp;Pakistan to travel to India for the 2025 Asia Cup if the BCCI decides against sending a team to Pakistan for the Champions Trophy.

As for the budget, the ICC has approved an amount of US$70 million for the tournament including US$4.5 million for extra expenses.

"The approximate budget is around USD 70 million and only USD 4.5 million has been allocated as additional expenses," reported news agency PTI citing a source.

The amount approved for extra expenses is too little for India to play its matches outside Pakistan if they decide not to travel due to 'security constraints.'

"The PCB now has done what was required of it as hosts of the Champions Trophy. It has submitted the draft schedule and format for the event and also submitted budget for the event,” reported PTI citing a PCB source.

The pair put together a 75-run stand for the opening wicket before Gill was dismissed. Soon the Indian team lost Rohit on 58 while Washington Sundar departed for 5 off 4. Former skipper Virat Kohli, who has a great record against Sri Lanka also did not make any impact and was dismissed for 24 off 32.

Soon the Indian team was 197/7 needing 35 runs to win and having three wickets in hand. Shivam Dube held one end for India until he was dismissed for 25 while Axar Patel contributed with 33 off 57.

An intense IPL franchise owners meeting took place at the BCCI headquarters, at the Wankhede Stadium, on Wednesday (Jul&nbsp;31). According to a top BCCI source (who was in the meeting), as per a report in Cricbuzz, KKR co-owner Shah Rukh Khan fiercely made the case against mega auctions and was even believed to be engaged in a heated argument with Ness Wadia, the co-owner of PBKS, over the number of retentions.

Nonetheless,&nbsp;Wadia clearly denied being engaged in a debate with KKR owner Shahrukh. He said, "I have known Shah Rukh for more than 25 years. There is no animosity here. Everyone gave their views, and they had their opinions. At the end of the day, you have to look at all the stakeholders and do what's best for all. That's most important."

IPL 2024 runners-up SRH's owner Kavya Maran, meanwhile, opined that&nbsp;her franchise's preference is for a mini-auction every year rather than having a mega auction altogether. In a statement, Maran said, "It takes a lot of time to build a squad and as discussed it also takes quite a bit of time and investment for the younger players to mature. It has taken Abhishek Sharma three years to become consistent with his performances. You would agree that there are many such examples in other teams too."

On the other hand, DC's co-owner Parth Jindal mentioned,&nbsp;"I was surprised that there was a debate on whether to hold the big auction," he said. "Some people said that there should not be a mega auction at all. There should be only smaller auctions. I'm not in that camp. I feel that it evens the playing field and it's very good for everyone. It makes the IPL what it is. It makes it competitive. It makes it an even playing field. What we are learning is that team owners don't want the auction. It's just a few owners."

The two teams will now play three ODI matches as India await the return of skipper Rohit and Kohli in the 50-over series starting August 2.

It has been over a month since Rohit Sharma-led India won the 2024 T20 World Cup, held in West Indies and the USA. In the mega final, India beat South Africa by 7 runs in a thrilling clash at the Kensington Oval, Barbados on June 29. With this, Rahul Dravid's coaching tenure also ended, with Gautam Gambhir succeeding him. After India's win, the team was stranded in Barbados for a couple of days due to Hurricane Beryl. The hurricane had also prompted a 48-hour closure of the airport before BCCI Secretary Jay Shah arranged a Chartered Flight (which comprised the players, team management and even journalists) for a lengthy 16-hour journey to New Delhi.&nbsp;

During the lengthy flight, a Star Sports producer, who was travelling with the team, shared details of what the players were up to. The energy was high as players hardly slept and the producer revealed that Dravid left business class and came to the economy whereas captain Rohit was seen jokingly 'scolding' someone.&nbsp;

As per a report in HT, the producer said, "On this flight, Barbados to Delhi, I think hardly anyone slept for more than six hours. That would have been the maximum. At no point was anyone quiet. Everyone was mingling around. Players came to meet the members of the press and few others. Star Sports engineers were also part of the flight because theirs was cancelled and they were also accommodated. But there was a lot of interaction. Rohit Sharma came several times. I believe at one moment, Rahul Dravid came up to the economy section to figure out if there was a 4-seater because he wanted to sleep. He came there from the business class and slept there for some time."

He further opined, "I remember I was sleeping and I could suddenly hear Rohit scolding somebody. I saw and he was standing right there. But Rohit, in his style was scolding jokingly. After that, Hardik came, Rishabh came and they were all having discussions with the media. So obviously, there was a lot of chatter."

Upon landing in India on July 4, the entire Indian team was cheered by the general public. Even the airport staff were seen clapping for the victorious Men in Blue. Despite a lengthy flight, the Indian team remained high in spirits and had a hectic day. Post meeting the PM, Team India left for Mumbai -- where they were also welcomed with a majestic water cannon salute. In the evening, the triumphant team left from Nariman Point to reach the Wankhede Stadium in an open-top bus parade, along with thousands of ardent fans following them. Under him, England won the white-ball series against Australia, Bangladesh, Ireland, New Zealand, Netherlands and Pakistan but fell flat in the 2023 ODI World Cup. At one point, England also risked not qualifying for the 2025 Champions Trophy during a forgettable ODI WC campaign in India. However, they finished the mega event with a qualification berth. Further, Mott also guided England to the semifinals of this year's T20 WC, in the West Indies and the USA.

At one point, England also risked not qualifying for the 2025 Champions Trophy during a forgettable ODI WC campaign in India. However, they finished the mega event with a qualification berth.
