England batter Dawid Malan has announced his retirement from international cricket as he dropped the curtains on his illustrious career on Wednesday (Aug 28). Having represented England in all three formats, he retires with a unique distinction of having scored a hundred in both white-ball and red-ball cricket. His last international appearance was at the ODI World Cup in India in 2023 and was since overlooked for the international set-up.

Having busted on the scene late in his career, Malan made his debut in June 2017 when he was 30. He got rewarded for his excellent form during the South Africa series as he made his Test debut. He was part of the England squad during the Ashes in 2017 in Australia and was the fourth-best batter during the tour. Despite his excellent run in the T20I and Test format, it was not until 2019 that he was handed an ODI cap.

Malan represented England in 22 Tests, 30 ODIs and 62 T20Is and is one of only two England men's batters (alongside Jos Buttler) to have scored centuries in all three international formats.

Despite playing in 22 Tests for the national team, he regretted not being a regular in the Test team under the captaincy of Joe Root and Alastair Cook.

Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary Jay Shah has been elected unopposed to be the new International Cricket Council (ICC) chief. The news was announced by the ICC on Tuesday (Aug 27). Shah will succeed&nbsp;Greg Barclay as the Independent ICC Chair. He'll start his tenure from December 1&nbsp;later this year.&nbsp;

“I am humbled by the nomination as the Chair of the International Cricket Council,” Shah stated in a statement issued by the ICC.

He was also the chief of Asian Cricket Council from 2021 to 2024.

After becoming the ICC chair, Shah will have to let go of his position in BCCI and ICC's F&amp;CA committee as well.&nbsp;

The former English pacer, who has the most Test wickets for a fast bowler in the world, had his moments against young Kohli but admitted that it became hard to get him out recently.

"You go so up and down. Some series you feel amazing and some not quite on it and a batter gets the better of you. The relationship between BCB and Shakib Al Hasan is like a player and an employer according to the contract. After tomorrow, we can think exactly after getting the legal notice and based on that. I cannot withdraw him from the middle of the Test match," he said.

"The second Test match is from August 30, so there is a gap between the games. During this period, we can think about what can be done in this regard," he added.

The notice has cited ICC's rule, according to which a player named in a criminal case can not represent the national team. BCB chief Faruque Ahmed, meanwhile, has said that a decision on the same will be taken after the first Test against Pakistan, which ended on Sunday (Aug 25). "Let me say about Shakib. A case has been lodged. We are yet to get any legal notice. FIR (first information letter) was given in the case and later there will be an investigation and following that, the case will move in one direction or the other," Faruque told reporters following the meeting with BCB directors. "Look, the FIR is just the first information letter and they are yet to claim any charge as far as I know, so before that, it is difficult to take a decision. The relationship between BCB and Shakib Al Hasan is like a player and an employer according to the contract. After tomorrow, we can think exactly after getting the legal notice and based on that. I cannot withdraw him from the middle of the Test match," he said. "The second Test match is from August 30, so there is a gap between the games. During this period, we can think about what can be done in this regard," he added. Bangladesh, meanwhile, beat Pakistan by 10 wickets on Sunday for their first Test victory against them.

Nicholas Pooran smashed an unbeaten 65 from 26 balls as the West Indies defeated an experimental South Africa side by seven wickets in their T20 international at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy Stadium on Friday.

West Indies put the visitors in to bat, in the first of the three match series, and made a strong start with the bowl.

The Caribbean side limited South Africa to 42-5 from the opening eight overs, with seamer Matthew Forde picking up the wickets of Ryan Rickelton (4) and skipper Aiden Markram (14).

But Tristan Stubbs led the fightback with a superb 76 from 42 balls including three sixes.

Stubbs was well supported by Patrick Kruger who struck 44 from 32 balls as South Africa recovered to 174-7 from their 20 overs.

The game had been delayed for over an hour by heavy rain but as the game went on conditions for batting improved and the home side took full advantage.

West Indies went on the attack from the outset with the opening pair of Alick Athanaze (40) and Shai Hope (51) putting on 84 from the opening wicket before Athinaze was removed in the eighth over, caught by keeper Markram off Ottneil Baartman.

Pooran then took the game away from the Proteas with a brilliant display of power hitting, including smashing Burger for four sixes in a row in the 12th over.

Although South Africa gave themselves some chance with the removal of Hope and skipper Rovman Powell (7) the outcome was never in doubt as the home side passed the target with 13 balls to spare.

The positive note for South Africa was the sight of left-arm seamer Kwena Maphaka -- the youngest man to make his international debut for the country at 18 years and 137 days --&nbsp;taking the wicket of Powell.

"He has a lot of X-factor and is really young," said Markram.&nbsp;

"He has hunger when you speak to him off the field and he wants to win games for South Africa," he added.

In a rare event, due to the presidential elections in the country, the Test match starting on September 18 will have a one-day break on September 21. This means the match will retain its original five-day schedule but will extend to a sixth day (if there is no result in the opening five days).

The series came as a surprise announcement for many which was not included in the initial International Cricket Council (ICC) calendar. The two-match Test series will have huge bearings on the WTC standings with both teams in search of important points. New Zealand won the inaugural edition of the WTC in 2021 beating India in the final.

The series will be Sri Lanka’s first on home turf since they beat India in the ODI series 2-0 and will play New Zealand after returning back from the England tour.

Currently, they are facing England in the opening Test in Manchester and got off to a decent start having been bowled out for 236 in their first innings. At the time of writing, England were 284/6 and were leading by 48 runs in the opening Test.

But the 25-year-old Brook was 53 not out, with fellow rising star Jamie Smith unbeaten on 22 in an unbroken stand of 51 in 11 overs.

Sri Lanka had collapsed to 6-3, losing their first three wickets for no runs in 10 balls on Wednesday's opening day of this three-match series.

But their bowlers still had runs to play after Sri Lanka captain Dhananjaya de Silva top-scored with 74 after winning the toss and Milan Rathnayake made 72 as he set a new record for the highest score by any Test debutant batting at No. 9.

Play got underway Thursday with the floodlights on full beam in conditions favouring Sri Lanka's quicks.
