Before this, foreign portfolio investors (FPIs) withdrew Rs 61,973 crore from equities in March 2020. The latest outflow came after a nine-month high investment of Rs 57,724 crore in September 2024, the PTI report elaborated further.

According to data from the depositories, FPIs have consistently bought equities since June after withdrawing Rs 34,252 crore in April-May. Overall, FPIs have been net buyers in 2024 except for January, April and May.

According to the data, FPIs recorded a net outflow of Rs 94,017 crore in October. The intensity of net outflows could be understood from the fact that except for one day FPIs were net sellers throughout the month bringing their total investment for 2024 down to Rs 6,593 crore. This resulted in about an 8 per cent decline in benchmark indices from their peaks. Several factors contributed towards this massive withdrawal of foreign capital from the Indian equity markets in October. 

The major among them is the elevated valuations of Indian equities. This has triggered a shift in investments towards China, where valuations are currently more attractive. Additionally, a series of stimulus measures, aimed at bolstering Chinese economic growth has made Chinese equities increasingly appealing to global investors, Srivastava said.

Despite the massive FPI selling in financials, this sector is resilient since the valuations are fair and every selling is being absorbed by domestic institutional investors (DIIs) and individual investors, particularly high net worth individuals (HNIs), VK Vijayakumar, Chief Investment Strategist, Geojit Financial Services, said.

Blackstone is in advanced talks to acquire Retail Opportunity Investments Corp (ROIC), which owns US shopping centers and has a market value of $3.4 billion including debt, according to people familiar with the matter, as detailed in an exclusive report by Reuters.

If the talks are successful, a deal could be finalised in the coming weeks, the sources said, requesting anonymity as the matter is confidential, the report detailed further.

Blackstone is likely to prevail in the auction for ROIC that has also attracted interest from other private equity firms, including Bain Capital, the sources said. Earlier this year, Bain Capital's real estate arm and retail investor 11North Partners had formed a partnership to acquire and operate open-air retail centers in North America. The sources cautioned that a transaction with Blackstone is not guaranteed and it's possible that a rival suitor could emerge. 

Blackstone, ROIC and Bain did not immediately respond to requests for comment, further Reuters reported in July that Blackstone was in early-stage talks to acquire ROIC.

Russia fines Google $2.5 decillion over YouTube bans: Report

Indian IT major, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) stated on October 29, that it has won a 15-year contract from Ireland’s Department of Social Protection to implement and support the country’s new auto-enrolment retirement savings scheme known as ‘My Future Fund’ according to a detailed report by Business Standard. 

The Business Standard report further explained that, while the financial details of the deal were not disclosed, such long-term contracts are typically categorised as large deals. The India information technology (IT) services company will provide an “end-to-end digital solution” for the automatic enrolment of some 800,000 workers in Ireland.

TCS will use its BaNCS platform to enable enrollment<o:p></o:p>

The company will use its TCS BaNCS platform to enable enrolment, record management, and benefit disbursement system. Services will be delivered through TCS’ Global Delivery Centre in Letterkenny, Co. Donegal, Ireland.

The project follows the passage of the Automatic Enrolment Retirement Savings System Bill in Ireland earlier this year and the completion of a tender process by the Department of Social Protection.
