‘Too hot to handle’: Scientists warn even 1.5C of global heating may cause devastation on Earth

<p>European Union and the United States on Wednesday said they expect a draft code of conduct on Artificial Intelligence (AI) might be released “within weeks”, adding that they are hopeful fellow democracies and like-minded nations will subscribe to it.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The voluntary code “would be open to all like-minded countries,” US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said after having discussions with EU officials in Sweden.</p>

<p>“There’s almost always a gap when new technologies emerge,” Blinken said, adding that there was time “for governments and institutions to figure out how to legislate or regulate.”</p>

<h2><strong>India urged to get on board</strong></h2>

<p>European Commission Vice President and tech chief Margrethe Vestager said the draft could be drawn up within weeks. <p>Based on its analysis of the Indian economy, Stanley in its report also made predictions for India, both with respect to domestic policies and international dynamics. The report noted that the manufacturing sector will lead the GDP growth in India for the next seven years, with exports projected to witness a steep rise.</p>

<p>The report said, “We expect a new cycle in manufacturing and capex [capital expenditure], as we estimate the share of both to rise in GDP [gross domestic product] by approximately 5 percentage points by 2031. We estimate that India’s export market share will rise to 4.5 per cent by 2031, nearly 2x [double] from 2021 levels, with broad-based gains across goods and services exports.”</p>

Now, Amnesty has published a corrected version of the report which says the student is still in South Korea and he never travelled to Hong Kong.</p>

<p>In the latest statement, Amnesty International has confirmed that the said student&nbsp;never travelled to Hong Kong, “contrary to previous information received.”</p>

Although his school declined to give information about his whereabouts in South Korea citing privacy concerns, it referred to a professor to confirm that the student was still present in South Korea. Abudureheman has been studying in South Korea for seven years.</p>

<h2><strong>Hong Kong government furious at Amnesty</strong></h2>

<p>Following allegations levelled by Amnesty over the disappearance of the student, the Hong Kong administration hit back at the rights group calling them “groundless and unfounded”, stating that the group attempted to smear it.</p>

<p>The administration also referred to governmental records claiming that neither the students ever entered Hong Kong territory, nor his entry request was rejected. It also demanded an apology from the group.<br />
However, Amnesty did not issue an apology in its correction statement.</p>

<h2><strong>When will the crude oil be pumped out?</strong></h2>

<p>According to UN sources, the oil will be completely pumped out from the stranded tanker by a company called SMIT Salvage. The process, which will cost the UN $148 million, is expected to start within the next 10 days to two weeks. The oil will be shifted to the UN-owned tanker Nautica, and then the empty stranded ship will be towed away to a safe location.</p>

<p>David Gressly, the UN coordinator for Yemen, said in a statement, “We're very happy to be on site where we can start the work."</p>

<h2><strong>Preparatory work to start on Wednesday&nbsp;</strong></h2>

<p>The salvage process will be done with the assistance of an SMIT support vessel called the NDeavour, which arrived at the site on Tuesday. Achim Steiner, head of the UN Development Programme, which is in charge of the salvage operation, said, “With the arrival of the Ndeavour next to the FSO in the Red Sea, we truly have reached a critical milestone."</p>
