The police on Friday arrested two main opposition leaders of Bangladesh, a day before the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) had planned a rally to demand the resignation of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

BNP general secretary Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir along with the former minister and member of the decision-making body of the party Mirza Abbas were arrested from their homes by the police at around 3 am on Friday, head of BNP's media wing Zahiruddin Swapan said.

"They were plainclothes policemen. Alamgir knew their identity. They told him he was being taken away on the order of the high command," said Swapan, adding that the party was unaware of their whereabouts.

Spokesman of Dhaka Metropolitan Police Faruq Ahmed said that the police arrested the two leaders over suspicion of obstructing the work of the government and instigating violence during clashes that took place on Wednesday.

Tensions have escalated in the capital in the wake of BNP's planned rally on Saturday, which the party claimed would draw thousands of its supporters from across the country.

The police have stated that no demonstration would be allowed in front of the party office, which the former called a "crime scene" after Molotov cocktails were discovered by them at the location.

According to the local media, police have set up checkpoints on routes coming into the city to stop the activists of the opposition party, travelling from the rural heartlands, from joining the protest.

However, Alamgir, in a press conference, on Thursday had said that the party will go forward with the rally. BNP spokesperson Swapan said that "around 2,000" activists and supporters of the party have been arrested by the police to stop the rally.

Prince Harry agreed with Associated Newspapers, one of the giant media publishers of Britain, to pause his libel claim temporarily so that an attempt can be made to settle the case, heard the High Court of London on Tuesday.

The publisher was sued by the Duke of Sussex in February over the publication of an article in the Mail on Sunday newspaper. In the article, it was alleged that the prince, with an intention to reinstate his police protection, had hidden the details of his legal battle with the interior ministry of Britain.

Prince Harry, along with his wife Meghan, had given up his royal duties two years ago. The prince claimed that the Mail had published an "unremittingly negative" article regarding his legal case against the ministry.

In July, the High Court had ruled out that it was defamatory. However, Associated Newspapers, argued that the article carried "an expression of opinion" of public statements made by Harry on his legal battle over the issue of police protection.

On Tuesday, the case was presented again in the court for a preliminary hearing, speaking on which the prince's lawyer Jane Phillips said that the case will be placed on hold till mid-January as agreed by the parties and an attempt will be made to reach a settlement "if that is indeed possible".

Meanwhile, Prince Harry was asked by Associated Newspapers to provide more information about his meeting which took place in January 2020 at the royal Sandringham estate, when he had claimed to have made an offer to either contribute or pay for police protection.

Judge Barbara Fontaine gave the ruling that the lawyers of Harry should provide necessary "clarification" about the offer the prince claims to have made, which the judge further added would “assist the parties ... in the attempts about (a) settlement, which I hope are successful”.

The case of journalist Shireen Abu Akleh, who was killed by Israeli forces, was submitted by the TV network Al Jazeera to the International Criminal Court on Tuesday.

The channel claimed to have "unearthed new evidence" on the Palestinian-American's death, who was shot on May 11 while she was covering a raid of the Israel army in Jenin in the occupied West Bank.

A complaint can be filed by any group or person to the ICC prosecutor asking for an investigation, however, the ICC does not have the obligation to take on every case.

In its submission, Al Jazeera highlighted "new witness evidence and video footage (that) clearly show that Shireen and her colleagues were directly fired at by the Israeli Occupation Forces".

"The claim by the Israeli authorities that Shireen was killed by mistake in an exchange of fire is completely unfounded," the Qatar-based channel stated.

Last year, a probe was launched by the ICC into war crimes in the Palestinian territories, however, Israel is not a member of the ICC and disputes the jurisdiction of the court.

On September 5, the Israeli army had accepted that Abu Akleh was shot by one of its soldiers after she was mistakingly presumed to be a militant. However, Israel refused to co-operate with any external investigation into the death of Abu Akleh.

"No one will investigate IDF (Israeli military) soldiers and no one will preach to us about morals in warfare, certainly not Al Jazeera," said Israeli Prime Minister Yair Lapid in a statement.

Lawyer claims 'Complete cover-up'

The slain reporter was wearing a helmet and a bulletproof vest marked "Press" when she was shot by the bullet in the Jenin refugee camp. The ICC was urged by the reporter's niece to investigate the death of the journalist.

"The evidence is overwhelmingly clear, we expect the ICC to take action," she said while addressing the press conference, adding that they had requested to meet prosecutor Karim Khan.

"My family still doesn't know who fired that deadly bullet and who was in the chain of command that killed my aunt,” she added.

Meanwhile, Lawyer Rodney Dixon claimed that there has been a "complete cover-up" by the Israeli government over the killing of Abu Akleh.

He said that the journalist's killing was part of Israel's "systematic and widespread campaign" against Al Jazeera, which also included bombing the office of Al Jazeera last year.

"There's a clear attempt to shut Al Jazeera down and silence it. We are hopeful that there will now be justice for Shireen,” Dixon stated.

The lawyer said that no formal meeting has taken place with the prosecutor's office but they have handed over evidence to the evidence unit of the ICC.

The service which was launched last year in the US will provide detailed instruction manuals along with parts for different kinds of common repairs, which will include repairing cracked screens.

Although the customers are free to use the implements of their choice, Apple is making available the same tools which are used by the in-house technicians of the company either on a seven-day loan costing £54.90 or for purchase.

While the DIY service can be accessed by anyone, only bravehearts can take up the task of performing surgery on a computer or a smartphone, which would require dealing with tiny screws.

It is most likely that a vast majority of users would opt for engaging a professional for any repair work. Apple stated that they have more than 5,000 authorised repair shops spread across the world which have access to original products.

As the data collected by CCS Insight indicate that the average consumer keeps their smartphone for 4.2 years, the provision of cost-effective repair options is important.

While the move will be appreciated by those supporting the right to repair, recently Apple faced criticism from specialists iFixit for putting a digital lockdown on the use of unauthorised and recycled parts for the repair of the device.

China's former leader Hu Jintao was for the first time seen in public on Monday, days after he was escorted dramatically out of the Communist Party's Congress when he visited the Chinese People's Liberation Army General Hospital in Beijing to pay respect to his late predecessor Jiang Zemin.

In a very unusual and shocking incident at the ruling Communist Party Congress' concluding session, Hu was lifted from his chair by two men and escorted out under the complete glare of the media, disrupting and attracting a lot of media attention at the event in which Chinese President Xi Jinping secured the historic third term as the Communist Party's leader.

Later it was reported by the Chinese state media that Hu was not feeling well and hence was escorted, however, his clearly visible reluctance to exit the meeting fired speculations over whether it was a play of political factors.

On the morning of Monday, Hu was seen along with the Chinese People's Liberation Army's other top leaders in the hospital, where he paid his final respects to Jiang before the latter was cremated, as seen in the footage by the state broadcaster CCTV.

Jintao appeared frail as he stood next to Xi as the officials thrice bowed before the body of Jiang. Later, Hu was unsteadily walking with an attendant's help as the cadres were seen walking around the funeral display and expressing their grief to Jiang's widow.

At the high-attention-grabbing Congress, the premier was anointed as the party's general secretary for a period of another five years, breaking the norm of the president stepping down after completing two terms.

It was highly speculated that Hu's dramatic exit was aimed at sending a strong political signal to the leaders who might be opposing the coronation of Xi.

After successfully completing a six-month mission aboard the space station of China, three Chinese astronauts finally landed back on earth.

On June 5, the astronauts left for space to oversee the Tiangong space station’s final construction stage, which got completed in November. While returning, the astronauts were onboard the Shenzhou-14 spacecraft’s re-entry capsule which landed safely at the Dongfeng site in Inner Mongolia.

The three astronauts, commander Chen Dong along with teammates Cai Xuzhe and Liu Yang, after landing said that they feeling good. The tired crew was carried out by the staff at the landing site. The mission was declared a "complete success” by the space agency of China.

Meanwhile, in space, three spacewalks were carried out by the three astronauts to test and check the new facilities. The astronauts also oversaw the arrival of Tiangong’s second and third modules.
