In a stunning discovery, a rare fifth-century Christian pendant was found by archaeologists in Turkey.

The pendant depicts King Solomon riding on horseback and killing the devil.

It was the only such pendant found in Anatolia, which is a region that is spread on a major part of modern-day Turkey to date.

The two sides of the bronze pendant had inscriptions in ancient Greek. On the side of King Solomon's depiction, the text read "Our Lord defeated evil" while the other side had the names of four angels, Azrael, Gabriel, Michael, and Israfil.

"It is a symbol of religion and power," said Ersin Çelikbaş, who is an archaeologist at Karabuk University in Turkey, while speaking to Live Science.

In a statement, Çelikbaş said that people were using the pendant as an amulet because they believed that it would protect them against danger or evil.

As mentioned in the Hebrew Bible, King Solomon was ancient Israel's ruler during the 10th century B.C., however, there is very little archaeological evidence to verify the biblical account.

Çelikbaş believed that the artefact discovered was a Christian pendant.

"Solomon is an important figure in all three holy religions," he explained in a statement.

"While he is referred to as a ruler in the Torah and the Bible, he is also recognised as a prophet in Islam. The depiction of Solomon on this [pendant] surprised us and revealed the importance of the artefact for Anatolian archaeology," Çelikbaş further said.

Here's how archaeologists found the pendant

The pendant was found by archaeologists while carrying out excavations at Hadrianopolis.

This ancient city was earlier known as Uskudama and was inhabited by tribal people called Thracians before it was rebuilt by the Roman emperor Hadrian around A.D. 124, who gave it the new name, according to Britannica. The city today is called Edirne.

The pendant was found in a building that was likely related to military activity, said Çelikbaş while speaking to Live Science.

"In our previous excavations, we had determined the existence of a cavalry unit here," said Çelikbaş, in the statement.

"Prophet Solomon is also known as the commander of armies. We understand that he was also considered a protective figure for the Roman and Byzantine cavalry in Hadrianopolis," he added.

Çelikbaş also hinted that the pendant must have belonged to a cavalry soldier. He added that something similar was found in Jerusalem.

"The presence of similar artefacts in these two distant geographies indicates that Hadrianopolis was an important religious centre in ancient times," said the researcher, in the statement.

A tragic and bizarre incident occurred when a monkey jumped upon a car and broke through its sunroof in Varanasi city in the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. Here's how the bizarre incident occurred The monkey lept on the parked car's rooftop, and at that moment the sunroof shattered. The mammal landed straight into the car's backseat but within seconds, he jumped out of the vehicle through the broken sunroof and then crossed the road very casually.
In a massive breakthrough, scientists created a mouse with the use of ancient genetic tools which are older in comparison to animal life.

The researchers took a gene from single-celled lifeforms and added it to the mouse cells for regenerating stem cells, which were then injected into a developing embryo for creating a living and breathing mouse.

Millions of years ago, before multicellular organisms came into existence, there were single-celled organisms on planet Earth. Some of them, called choanoflagellates, were seen as the animals' closest living relatives.

As per the new research, their genomes have different versions of genes Sox and POU, which are known to push stem cells' formation in mammals and, till now, were believed to be exclusive to animals.

These were now found in a single-celled organism and were then used by scientists to reprogram mouse cells.

“By successfully creating a mouse using molecular tools derived from our single-celled relatives, we’re witnessing an extraordinary continuity of function across nearly a billion years of evolution,” said study author Dr Alex de Mendoza in a statement.

"The study implies that key genes involved in stem cell formation might have originated far earlier than the stem cells themselves, perhaps helping pave the way for the multicellular life we see today," Mendoza said.

Here's how the mouse was created

The choanoflagellate Sox genes were entered into the mouse cell, which replaced the existing Sox2 genes, and in the process turned the cells into induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs).

These cells can develop into any type of cell in the body.

When scientists injected the iPSCs into a mouse embryo, they formed what is called a chimera, which is an animal whose body has cells that are different from each other and contain two different sets of DNA.

The new mouse had traits of both the iPSCs and the donor embryo and had dark eyes and black fur patches, which confirmed that the ancient genes had influenced the development of the animal.

This is impressive considering the simple origins of the genes. It appears that the early lifeforms had evolved their ways of maintaining pluripotency, much before stem cells and multicellular organisms came into existence.

"Choanoflagellates don’t have stem cells, they’re single-celled organisms, but they have these genes, likely to control basic cellular processes that multicellular animals probably later repurposed for building complex bodies,” Dr de Mendoza said.

Instagram's parent company Meta has announced a new feature which will help users gain more control over the content they are recommended on the social media platform.

The tool helps users reset their recommendations and allows them to make a "fresh start" after removing all that is being used by the platform for personalising the user's feed, reels and explore page.

Once this reset tool is used by the user, all the past data is wiped off by Instagram which is being used to shape the recommendations and leaves the feed as a clean slate.

Through time as users start interacting with new accounts, posts and content, Instagram starts making changes in its suggestions on the basis of the user's new interests.

A woman shared her strange experience in a recent Reddit post on the “Wedding Shaming” subreddit when her younger brother demanded money from her for attending his wedding.

“‘Hi [wife’s name] just told me she hasn’t received your $115 each no rush you can send it to 123@email.com,’” wrote the woman on the Reddit post.

“Now at no point before now was it communicated to me that they were charging guests to attend. Nowhere on the invitation either. Plus my husband and I already gave them $400 cash in their card," she added.

In her Reddit post, the woman then continued that the wedding took place in a private room of an expensive restaurant with no dance floor or open bar.

“We didn’t even drink alcohol that night and still paid $30 for pop and coffee plus Uber there and back,” she said.
