In a press conference, the United States State Department Principal Deputy Spokesperson Vedant Patel on Wednesday (April 17) said that they have extended support for reforms to United Nations institutions, which included the United Nations Security Council (UNSC).

Commenting on Tesla CEO Elon Musk's statement regarding India not having a permanent seat at the UNSC, Vedant Patel said, "The President has spoken about this before in his remarks to the UN General Assembly, and the Secretary has alluded to this as well. We certainly support reforms to the UN institution, including the Security Council, to make it reflective of the 21st-century world that we live in. I don't have any specifics to offer on what those steps are, but certainly, we recognise that there is a need for reform, but I will leave it at that for now."

A new trait has been found among bacteria like Salmonella and E. coli, called 'bacterial vampirism', by the researchers at Washington State University (WSU). These bacteria are known to cause foodborne illnesses.

For years, scientists have not been able to understand how these microorganisms can move from the gut to the blood, where they can act deadly. Also, they have not been able to understand why they move from the gut to the blood.

As per the team, these bacteria get attracted to the serum or blood, which is filled with nutrients that can be used as food by the bacteria.

The pathogens are easily able to trace where the serum is and gain entry to the bloodstream via small cuts present in the digestive system, which at times also leads to death from sepsis if a person is suffering from inflammatory bowel disease.

Vampire bacteria is attracted to small amounts of blood: Scientists

As per the scientists, even a small amount of blood is enough to attract vampire bacteria and can detect a single drop of blood in 10 billion drops of water.

In a statement, WSU’s College of Veterinary Medicine professor and co-author Arden Baylink said, "Bacteria infecting the bloodstream can be lethal. We learned some of the bacteria that most commonly cause bloodstream infections actually sense a chemical in human blood and swim toward it."

As per the new study which was published in the journal eLife, 0.0000000000001 millilitres of serum can be detected by enterobacteria like E. coli and Salmonella.

After finding the cut through which the blood is leaking into the gut, the bacteria crowd around it and enter it.

A high-powered microscope system is being used by the team to simulate intestinal bleeding by injecting human serum in microscopic amounts and observing the bacteria navigate towards the source.

The scientists watched as the microbes detected the serum in less than a minute. The strategy, in this scenario, is known as 'chemotaxis,' where bacteria shift towards higher concentrations of specific substances.

The scientists also found that Salmonella has a special protein receptor known as Tsr which helps bacteria move towards the serum.

6 Early Signs Of Alzheimer's & Dementia You Must Know

Memory loss is one of the most common early symptoms of dementia and Alzheimer's. With the loss of memory, one finds it difficult to perform daily tasks and becomes reliant on family members.

People may start finding it difficult to plan their work or solve their problems which can be a sign of Alzheimer's.

At an early stage of dementia or Alzheimer's, one may start finding daily tasks challenging.

It becomes difficult for people with Alzheimer's to keep track of dates, seasons, and the passage of time.

Alzheimer's patients may abruptly stop in the middle of a conversation or struggle with vocabulary.

People with Alzheimer's tend to keep things in unusual places and then forget about it.

Even though the tentacles of an octopus may appear to have a bone or two, in reality, they don't.

Flatworms, a type of invertebrate animal, also don't have any bones.

Butterflies are delicate and soft insects that lack any piece of bone in their body.

Jellyfish are beautiful-looking creatures in the sea. They don't have bones in their body which are made up of mesoglea.

Squids have soft bodies with no bones for muscular support.

Sea cucumbers are marine animals with soft and flexible bodies that do not contain bones.

Even though there are hard spikes all over the body of sea urchins, they lack proper bone structure for support.

The bodies of slugs are soft and slimy without any bones.

Scientists, after decoding different facets of how Earth and the Sun will eventually cease to exist, have now tried to understand how the universe will die.

The new observation hints that dark energy is likely getting weaker across the universe and so it will end with a "big crunch".

The "big crunch" event is most likely to occur after millions of years but experts working on a Dark Energy Spectroscopic vision warned that the world's future appears bleak.

According to the research, since the universe is rapidly expanding, it is likely to weaken the energy which forms the atoms.

Universe will slowly grind to a halt and collapse

Scientists created one of the deepest maps of the cosmos using data collected by the Dark Energy Spectroscopic Instrument (DESI) in just its first year.

Cosmologist at the Universidad ECCI in Columbia and former DESI team member, Luz Angela Garcia Penaloza confirmed that the dark energy's effect is "decreasing" over time.

Scientists have described this decrease in dark energy as the "big crunch". This observation of the cosmos implies that the universe will grind to a halt slowly and eventually collapse.

Speaking to Space.com, Luz said, "If what the first year of DESI results suggests is true, then the accelerated expansion of the universe will cease and eventually reverse, and the universe could begin drawing together under the influence of gravity."

"This could eventually lead to the universe ending in a 'Big Crunch' scenario," he added. Meanwhile, an expert said that the big crunch will be "initially" harmless, however, it will eventually develop into a life-killing experience.

Pennsylvania State University's Martin Bojowald said, "The collapse initially would just be very harmless; the density of the universe would increase, but very slowly. But at some time, the collapse would lead to densities the same size as the Big Bang."

Till now, scientists have not been able to draw an entire picture of how the "big crunch" will appear.

According to Bojowald, the scientists are on the verge of comprehending the visual size of the "big crunch".

Explaining the magnitude of the "big crunch", Luz said, "We're going to have a very complementary vision of the universe from two completely different missions."

He said, "They are going to give us a completely brand new vision of how the universe is behaving and how dark energy is shaping the larger scale universal structure."

Blind psychic Baba Vanga, who apparently had rightfully predicted the 9/11 attacks as well as the COVID-19 pandemic, also made a scary prediction of World War III in 2024.

Now, with Iran attacking Israel and the latter planning out a retaliation, the predictions of the next world war have come to the fore, leaving many concerned.

Who was Baba Vanga?

Baba Vanga was a Bulgarian prophetess who emerged as an important figure among conspiracy theorists after some of her pronouncements came true. She died 27 years ago in 1996.

Baba Vanga, who is famously called the Nostradamus of the Balkans, predicted an event which will happen every year till 5079, when according to her the world will end.

For the year 2024, the mystic predicted numerous dark events which included biological attacks, terrorist attacks in Europe as well as World War 3, which some are finding eerily possible as tensions escalated in the Middle East and Iran launched nearly 300 missiles and drones on Israel on Saturday (April 13).

As per media reports, the prophetess had predicted a wave of terror and said that a 'major country' may dabble with biological warfare.

The blind psychic had warned that the developments may take place after the invasion of southern Israel by Hamas.

Baba Vanga, also known as Vangelia Pandeva Dimitrova, had claimed to have a rare gift from God which helped her see into the future after she lost her sight at the age of 12.

Predictions of Baba Vanga which became true

The most important predictions made by Baba Vanga which became true were the 9/11 attacks in New York City and the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

While predicting about coronavirus pandemic 'years ago', Baba Vanga said, "The coronavirus will be all over us."

In 1989, the psychic speaking about the 9/11 attacks on the World Trade Centre, said, "Horror, horror! The American brethren will fall after being attacked by the steel birds. The wolves will be howling in a bush, and innocent blood will be gushing."

Baba Vanga also made a correct prediction about Barack Obama becoming the first black president of the United States, although she said that he would be the very last.

The blind psychic had warned that the developments may take place after the invasion of southern Israel by Hamas. Baba Vanga, also known as Vangelia Pandeva Dimitrova, had claimed to have a rare gift from God which helped her see into the future after she lost her sight at the age of 12. Predictions of Baba Vanga which became true The most important predictions made by Baba Vanga which became true were the 9/11 attacks in New York City and the Russian invasion of Ukraine. In her 50-year-long career, the prophetess also predicted the coronavirus pandemic, the death of Princess Diana in 1997 and the Chernobyl disaster in Ukraine in 1986. In a visual treat for stargazers and astronomers, the 'Devil Comet' or 12/P Pons-Brooks will reach its brightest this week.

The comet will also sparkle close to Jupiter and Uranus' conjunction when the “bulls-eye planet” and giant planet will meet to form an arc for 30 minutes on April 20.

On April 21, this twelfth comet - which is around the same size as Halley’s Comet, will be visible in the west after remaining in the dark for many months.

Stargazers will only need a clear sky and a pair of binoculars to see the green comet in the southwest.

Mother of Dragons comet reaches perihelion

The 10.5-mile-wide (17 kilometres) Comet 12P/Pons-Brooks, which is also known as the "Mother of Dragons comet", will be at its closest point to the sun, called perihelion. It will be at a distance of about 144 million miles (232 million km) from our star.

This position will make the comet significantly brighter and easier to see with the naked eye in the western sky after sunset.

For stargazers, it will be best to see the comet on April 21 and a few nights before and after when it will be at its brightest.

The people trying to see the comet in northern latitudes may find it difficult since it will be positioned in the glow of sunset.

"In spite of the fact that the comet should be brightest because it is nearest to the sun, it is quite distant from us," said Frank Maloney, who is an associate professor of astronomy and astrophysics at Villanova University in Pennsylvania, while speaking to Live Science.

"Comets can exhibit major changes in brightness as the sun warms them, but unless something happens, the comet will be visible only in binoculars or a telescope," he added.

This may change if the comet has another outburst like the one it had in July 2023. This led to a pair of demonic horns, and thus the nickname "devil comet."

As per the latest observations, the comet does not sport horns any longer since it lost the "notch" of ice in its core which made the horns appear.

5 Biggest Mysteries Of The Universe That Remain Unsolved

For long, scientists have been trying to understand when does an object exactly enters a black hole and what happens to it after that. However, what is present inside the black hole remains unknown to date.

2. The universe is expanding. But into what?

The universe is supposedly expanding and the galaxies are drifting apart. Also, the regions of the space are getting stretched. However, there is no centre from where the universe is expanding and no outer edge beyond which it won't expand, so it is not known what is it stretching into.

3. What happened in the first 10 seconds after universe was born?

The universe is estimated to have been created approximately 13.77 billion years ago. At that time, it was inconceivably hot and very small, nearly the size of a pear. However, what remains unknown is what happened in the first 10 seconds after the universe was formed.

Nearly 68 per cent of the entire universe is dark energy and around 27 per cent of it is dark matter. Dark energy also affects the expansion of the universe. But what exactly is dark energy remains a mystery.

Scientists have been making all possible efforts to find any traces of life beyond Earth and have also studied various exoplanets to understand if any other place has a chance of life. However, the existence of extra-terrestrial life has remained a mystery so far.

The war cabinet of Israel held a meeting to discuss and decide how they would respond to the missile and drone attack of Iran. Israel did not announce if they had reached a decision.

The actions of Iran were strongly condemned by the allies of Israel, however, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's government was appealed by the countries to show some restraint.

Even though Iran has signalled they consider the matter closed, the Israeli military's chief of staff Lt Gen Herzi Halevi said that the attack will not go unanswered.

“This launch of so many missiles, cruise missiles and drones into Israeli territory will be met with a response,” said Halevi, while speaking from the Nevatim Air Force base in southern Israel, which also suffered a little damage in the attack.

Since the attack, this is the clearest confirmation given by Israel Defense Forces Chief of Staff Lt Gen Herzi Halevi that Israel would strike back.
