The Israeli military on Sunday (May 5) shut the Kerem Shalom border crossing for humanitarian aid trucks, which is one of the most important routes into southern Gaza after rockets were fired towards the gateway.

The Israeli army said that 10 missiles were launched from Rafah in southern Gaza towards the crossing.

The army however said that only the Kerem Shalom was shut and the rest remained open.

"Approximately 10 projectile launches were identified crossing from the area adjacent to the Rafah Crossing toward the area of Kerem Shalom," the army said in a statement, adding that the "Kerem Shalom Crossing is currently closed to the passage of humanitarian aid trucks".

Later, Hamas claimed responsibility for the attack which as per Israeli and Palestinian local media reports resulted in Israeli casualties.

The armed wing of the Palestinian militant group said that it launched an air offensive targeting the Israeli army base by the crossing.&nbsp;

Poland on Saturday (May 4) denounced Russia for its alleged cyberattacks reported by Germany and the Czech Republic stating that it was too targeted by the hackers.

Expressing solidarity with Germany and the Czech Republic, Poland's foreign ministry released a statement condemning the "harmful activities" carried out in cyberspace by Russian entities.

"Poland, which is also one of the targets of the APT 28 attacks, strongly condemns the repeated, unacceptable and harmful activities carried out in cyberspace by Russian entities," the statement said.

However, Warsaw did not provide any details regarding the attack in the statement.

"Facing the continuous increase in threats in cyberspace, Poland is actively working to protect critical infrastructure, build resilience and strengthen cyber defence."

Germany, on Friday (May 3) blamed Russia for a series of cyberattacks and alleged that Moscow’s intelligence service was behind the activities that targeted German Chancellor Olaf Scholz’s party Social Democrats (SPD), last year.&nbsp;

German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock said that a recent government investigation found that a cyberattack targeting members of the SPD had been carried out by a Russian group called APT28 which operates under “the military intelligence service of Russia”.&nbsp;

“We can now clearly attribute the attack to the Russian group APT28, which is controlled by the Russian military intelligence service GRU,” Baerbock told reporters during a visit to Australia.

She added, “In other words, it was a state-sponsored Russian cyberattack on Germany and this is absolutely intolerable and unacceptable and will have consequences.”

APT28, also known as Fancy Bear or Pawn Storm, has been accused of dozens of cyberattacks around the world.&nbsp;

The development came following a special court for People's Representatives in Bengaluru rejected the interim bail application of the JD(S) leader and his son JD(S) MP Prajwal Revanna over the alleged "obscene videos" case.

Justice Santosh Gajanana Bhat's bench of the court rejected the interim bail plea of both the Janata Dal (Secular) leaders on Saturday.

The former minister was arrested from the Padmanabhanagar residence of his father, JD(S) chief and former prime minister HD Deve Gowda and brought to the SIT office.

The action was taken by the police on the basis of a complaint that was filed by the son of the woman who was allegedly "abducted and sexually abused".

The FIR alleged that the woman who worked as a housemaid at HD Revanna's home for six years was sexually abused by Revanna's son Prajwal, who is also the Lok Sabha candidate for BJP-JD(S) from the Hassan constituency, before returning to her village, was allegedly abducted.

The case was registered against Revanna and former minister and his confidant Sathish Babanna in Mysuru, who already has been arrested in the case.

The woman was allegedly kidnapped so as to prevent her from testifying against Prajwal, reported news agency PTI citing police sources.

The police officials on Saturday rescued the abducted woman from a farmhouse that is said to be owned by an aide of Revanna. It was located at Kalenahalli village in Hunsur taluk of Mysuru district.

According to the FIR, a few days before the first phase of the Lok Sabha elections in Karnataka on April 26, Babanna visited the woman's residence and claimed that Revanna’s wife Bhavani required her assistance for some tasks.&nbsp;

Later, Babanna allegedly cautioned the family not to involve the police if they came to their residence and threatened them with legal action. On April 29, around 9 am, Babanna returned, warning the family that the woman would be implicated in a case. He then took her with him, stating that Revanna had summoned her, as detailed by the woman’s son in the FIR.

“While I was looking for my mother, on May 1, a couple of my friends asked about my mother featured in the alleged sex tapes of Prajwal. I called Satish over the phone to check the whereabouts of my mother and he said that a case had been registered against her and she had to get bail,”&nbsp;the FIR read.

French President Emmanuel Macron reiterated that he did not dismiss sending military troops to Ukraine, stating that the matter would "legitimately" come up if Russia barged through Ukrainian front lines and Kyiv called for such a move.

Macron made these remarks after he delivered a keynote speech last week where he said that Europe is "mortal" and could "die" partly due to the existential threat from Russian aggression.

"I'm not ruling anything out, because we are facing someone who is not ruling anything out," said Macron on being asked if he stood by his remarks earlier this year of not excluding the probability of&nbsp;sending&nbsp;Western troops to Ukraine.

Macron stated "if Russia decided to go further, we will in any case all have to ask ourselves this question" of sending military forces, describing his refusal to rule out such a move as a "strategic wake-up call for my counterparts".

He described Russia as "a power of regional destabilisation" and "a threat to Europeans' security".

"I have a clear strategic objective: Russia cannot win in Ukraine," Macron said.

The French president also raised alarm bells over the "disrespect" of trade rules by the United States as well as China, urging the EU to review its trade policy.

"Our Europe, today, is mortal and it can die," he said.

"It can die and this depends only on our choices," Macron further said, warning that Europe was "not armed against the risks we face" in a world where the "rules of the game have changed".

"Over the next decade... there is an immense risk of (Europe) being weakened or even relegated," he added, also pointing to the risk of Iran obtaining a nuclear weapon.&nbsp;

Macron said the risk is that Europe will experience a decline and that despite all the efforts "we are already starting to see this".

He said he stood by his comments, which he said were a policy of "strategic ambiguity".

"Do we have limits in ensuring the security of Europeans? No," he added.

The French president called on Europe to be more self-reliant saying that it should bring about a change as in the past, the continent was over-dependent on Moscow for energy and Washington for security.

He said the required "sine qua non" for European security was "that Russia does not win the war of aggression in Ukraine".

"We need to build this strategic concept of a credible European defence for ourselves," Macron said, adding Europe could not be "a vassal" of the United States.&nbsp;

Reddy's attorney appeared before the court on Wednesday and affirmed that he was neither involved in tampering with the video nor in its circulation.

Delhi Police arrest Congress member in Amit Shah's doctored video case

China is set to launch its robotic spacecraft Chang'e-6 on Friday (May 3) which will make a round trip and collect samples from the far side of the moon.

Chang'e-6, which is made using the backup spacecraft from the 2020 mission, will gather rocks and soil from the region that has stayed away from the earth's view permanently.

The Chinese spacecraft will rely on the relay satellite that has been recently deployed and in its 53-day mission is orbiting the moon.

The same relay satellite will also back China's future mission, i.e.&nbsp;Chang'e-7 and 8 missions in 2026 and 2028 respectively as Beijing aims to explore the south pole for water and also build a rudimentary outpost with Russia.&nbsp;

Chang'e 6 will make an attempt to land on the northeastern side of the vast South Pole-Aitkin Basin, which is also known as the oldest impact crater in the solar system.

The scientists describe the South Pole as the "golden belt" for lunar exploration.

The samples that Chang'e 6 plans to gather from outer space could also help researchers understand the early evolution of the moon and the inner solar system.

The lunar samples in the near past have been collected by the United States and the former Soviet Union in the 1970s and China in 2020.

Those samples were from the moon's near side, where&nbsp;volcanism is said to be far more active.

After making a successful landing, Chang'e-6 plans to collect about 2 kilogrammes (4.4 pounds) of samples with a mechanical scoop and a drill.

"If successful, China's Chang'e-6 mission would be a milestone-making event," Leonard David, author of "Moon Rush: The New Space Race", told news agency Reuters. "The robotic reach to the Moon's far side, and bringing specimens back to Earth, helps fill in the blanks about the still-murky origin of our Moon."

West Bengal Governor CV Ananda Bose issued an order barring the police and Minister of State for Finance, Chandrima Bhattacharya from entering the Raj Bhavan after the Governor was allegedly accused of sexual harassment.

The directive said that the entry of West Bengal Minister Chandrima Bhattacharya into the Raj Bhavan premises of Kolkata, Darjeeling and Barrackpore is banned for "defamation and anti-constitutional media statements".

"For defamation and anti-constitutional media statements against Governor, a junior gubernatorial appointee Chandrima Bhattacharya, Minister of State (Independent Charge) Department of Finance has been banned entry into the Raj Bhavan premises of Kolkata, Darjeeling and Barrackpore," said the order.

It further stated that the Governor will not take part in any event that is attended by the Minister.

"The Attorney General of India has been contacted for further advice on further legal steps against the Minister," the order added.

"What kind of incident is this, when the Governor says that he will create a 'peace room' and listen to everyone's problems, but here the same Governor is insulting women," she added.

Responding to the allegations, the West Bengal Governor released a statement saying that he will not be oppressed by "engineered narratives" and the "truth shall triumph" after TMC leaders said that a woman employed at Raj Bhavan accused Bose of molestation.

"Truth shall triumph. I refuse to be cowed down by engineered narratives. If anybody wants some election benefits by maligning me, God bless them. But they cannot stop my fight against corruption and violence in Bengal," the Governor said.&nbsp;

A case has been registered under Sections 153, 153A, 465, 469, 171G of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and section 66C of the Information Technology (IT) Act and a probe has been initiated, said the sources as per Indian news agencies. "The video seems to be doctored, spreading misleading information with the intention of creating disharmony among communities which is likely to affect public tranquillity and public order issues. "This is a peaceful protest, there are no counter-protestors tonight, so to call the police on them is despicable. This city should support them," LA resident Jack Bedrosian, who came to show support, told news agency AFP.

UCLA officials on the other hand have announced that the campus will remain shut except for limited operations on Thursday and Friday.

<h2>Hundreds arrested</h2>

Police in the last 24 hours have arrested hundreds of protesters of whom majority&nbsp;have called for divestment from companies that support Israel and the war in Gaza.

Announcements broadcast on the University of California Los Angeles campus on Wednesday (May 1) told demonstrators to disperse or they would be arrested.

California's governor's office criticised the slow response of law enforcement to a violent incident at UCLA. The incident involved a clash between a pro-Israeli group and a pro-Palestinian student encampment.

A masked pro-Israeli group assaulted a pro-Palestinian student camp before the police officers were called to the campus.

Governor Gavin Newsom's spokesperson said the limited and delayed police intervention was unacceptable.

Meanwhile, India's Ministry of External Affairs, reacting to the protests in the US campuses said that so far neither the Embassy nor any Consulate has been approached by Indian students seeking assistance.

The Supreme Court of India on Monday&nbsp;questioned the West Bengal state government as to why it has come in as a petitioner before it for "protecting the interest" of some private individuals in the Sandeshkhali sex abuse and land grabbing case.&nbsp;It adjourned hearing on a special leave petition moved by the east Indian state's government. 
 
The apex court was hearing the state government's plea challenging the Calcutta High Court's April 10 order which directed a CBI investigation into allegations of crimes against women and land grabbing in Sandeshkhali.&nbsp; 
 
“Why should the state come in as a petitioner for protecting the interest of some private individuals?,” a bench of Justices B R Gavai and Sandeep Mehta asked.&nbsp; 
 
The counsel appearing for the state said it was aggrieved by some comments made in the high court order. 
 
The bench of justices BR Gavai and Sandeep Mehta adjourned the matter till July. The plea was made by the West Bengal government's counsel and senior advocate AM Singhvi.&nbsp;

The court further recorded the statement of West Bengal government counsel that the pending status of the petition will not be exploited or used for any other purposes.

The state government had moved the apex court stating that the Calcutta High Court erroneously ruled an order directing the CBI to probe and submit a report concerning the accusations made by the residents of Sandeshkhali.

The high court had directed a probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) into the allegations of land grabbing and sexual assault in Sandeshkhali.

The government pleaded in the top court that the high court order transgressed the culmination of probes into 43 FIRs, all leading to charge sheets.

It said that the sidelining of the state government's actions in favour of political voices risks bias in the investigation.

The government further said that the High Court decision had cast baseless imputations on the probes carried out by the State Police without taking into account the correct tangible matrix and the measures essayed by the petitioner state in diligently investigating all the FIRs.

Earlier this week, reacting to the cache of ammunition seized by CBI from West Bengal's Sandeshkhali, the ruling Trinamool Congress raised suspicions that the bombs could have been planted by Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) or National Security Guard (NSG) commandos.&nbsp;

This came after CBI conducted raids on locations tied to individuals suspected in the January 5 assault on an Enforcement Directorate team in which several officials were injured in Sandeshkhali when they set out to raid TMC leader Shah Jahan Sheikh's residence.&nbsp;

The party in a letter to the Election Commission of India on Friday (Apr 26) evening wrote, "It is astonishing to notice that media personnel were already present during such the raid even before the state administration arrived at the spot."

"At such point in time, it was already nationwide news that weapons had been recovered during the raid. There is no way of knowing with certainty, as to whether these weapons were indeed recovered during the search and seizure procedure or whether they were surreptitiously planted by the CBI/NSG," the letter further read.

Sandeshkhali row: SC on West Bengal plea on CBI probe - why should state protect individual’s interest?

Janata Dal (Secular) (JD(S)) supremo HD Kumaraswamy on Monday (Apr 29) announced that the party has decided to suspend his nephew Prajwal Revanna over allegations of sexual abuse.

Revanna is the BJP-JD(S) alliance candidate for the Lok Sabha polls from the Hassan constituency, which went to the polls on Friday (Apr 26).

"A decision was already made. Tomorrow it is to be recommended at the core committee meeting in Hubballi. Because he (Prajwal) is a Member of Parliament, it has to be done from Delhi. So I had requested Deve Gowda (JD(S) National President and former PM). Neither he (Gowda) nor I were aware of this issue," Kumaraswamy claimed.

"Some issues that have come out, on the basis of that it has been decided yesterday itself to suspend (him). But many were in a hurry," the JD(S) state head said while talking to reporters.

Thirty-three-year-old Prajwal is HD Revanna's son and former PM and JD(S) patriarch HD Deve Gowda's grandson.

Recently,&nbsp;video clips allegedly showing Prajwal Revanna sexually abusing several women started doing rounds in Hassan.

The government formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to investigate the alleged sex scandal involving the Hassan MP.

"So far, there are no direct allegations against Prajwal Revanna. If the charges are true...punishment should happen in accordance with the law. There is no compromise. If Prajwal Revanna is wrong, our family is in agreement for action to be taken against him," Kumaraswamy said.

He also vehemently opposed the names of his father Deve Gowda, among other family members, being dragged into the matter.

"I want to ask Congress leaders, why bring family into it? Discuss the individual. An individual and his deeds are in question here, not the family...why bring the family's name, Deve Gowda's name or Kumaraswamy's name? I have myself said whoever has committed the mistake has to undergo punishment," he added.
