"Congress wants to fight elections by speaking lies. They say that if Prime Minister Narendra Modi comes, he will finish the reservation. Prime Minister Modi has been leading this country unanimously for the last 10 years, but he did not end the reservation. However, the Congress party has robbed the reservations of SC, ST and OBC by giving 4 per cent reservation to Muslims," Shah said at a rally in the southern city of Hyderabad.

"In 2019, the public of Telangana gave us four seats. This time, we will win more than 10 Lok Sabha seats in Telangana. This double-digit score in Telangana will make PM Modi cross 400 seats... Make BJP victorious on more than 10 seats. We will end the Muslim reservation and increase the reservation of SC, ST, and OBC," he added.

He then took a swipe at Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, and said, "In our manifesto, we have given Modi's guarantees and he does what he says. And the guarantees of Rahul baba doesn't even stay till sunset."

Shah slammed Gandhi for making false promises stating, "Rahul Gandhi promised to forgive the farmer loans but he didn't, he promised to give Rs 15,000 to farmers but he didn't fulfil that."

"He (Rahul Gandhi) promised to give loans of Rs 5 lakh to students without guarantee but didn't, he didn't give scooty to girl students as promised by him, and he didn't open International Schools in every Taluka. The Congress doesn't fulfil its promises while PM Modi ji fulfils every promise," he further said.&nbsp;

The RJD chief then went on to claim that he was the one who implemented the Mandal Commission.

"I implemented the 'Mandal Commission'. Reservation samajik adhar par hota hai dharmik aadhar par nahi hota hai (it is based on social-backwardness and not based on religion). Atal Bihari Vajpayee constituted the Constitution Review Commission," Lalu told news agency ANI.

He then asserted that people were voting in favour of the INDIA bloc and that the BJP would not be able to win even 200 seats.

"We are getting reports in our favour after the third phase. They are saying 400-plus to induce psychological pressure, they won't even cross 200," he said.

"They (BJP) want to end reservation, they are against backwards and Dalits," the RJD supremo alleged.

The state's Civil Defense agency said the death toll has risen to 90 with another four deaths being investigated, while 131 people are still unaccounted for and 155,000 are homeless.

Heavy rains that began last week have caused rivers to flood, inundating whole towns and destroying roads and bridges.

In Porto Alegre, a city of 1.3 million inhabitants on the Guaiba river, downtown streets were under water.

Porto Alegre residents faced empty supermarket shelves and closed gas stations, with shops rationing sales of mineral water. The city distributed water in trucks to hospitals and shelters.

The floods have also impacted water and electricity services, with more than 1.4 million affected overall, according to Brazil's Civil Defense.

Almost half a million people were without power in Porto Alegre and outlying towns as electricity companies cut off supplies for security reasons in flooded neighborhoods. National grid operator ONS said five hydroelectric dams and transmission lines were shut down due to the heavy rains.

President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva said on a government television program that the extent of the damage will not be known until the waters subside. He promised federal aid for the state in what is considered its worst ever climate disaster.

The lawsuit by the firm and the short-video sharing platform alleges that the move violates the First Amendment, charging that "Congress has made a law curtailing massive amounts of protected speech."

It further stated that the divestiture demanded for the short video app&nbsp;for it to be functional in the country is "simply not possible".

The suit was filed at a federal court in Washington.

ByteDance has stated it has no plans to sell TikTok, renouncing the lawsuit, which is expected to go to the US Supreme Court, as its sole chance to avert a ban.

"There is no question: the Act will force a shutdown of TikTok by January 19, 2025," the lawsuit said, "silencing (those) who use the platform to communicate in ways that cannot be replicated elsewhere."

TikTok, ByteDance challenge potential US ban in court

The Canadian Police on Friday (May 3) have arrested people involved in the killing of Khalistan separatist Hardeep Singh Nijjar, according to a media report. 
 
Nijjar was shot dead outside a Gurdwara in Surrey, British Columbia, on the evening of June 18, 2023.

He was designated a terrorist by the National Investigation Agency in the year 2020

The police are probing links between the alleged assailants and three additional killings in Canada, including the murder of an 11-year-old boy in Edmonton, the reports said.

The Canadian police, as per CBC News, will share details about the ones arrested later in the day.

The report further said that the alleged assailants are likely the associates of gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, who is currently behind bars in India over plotting the killing of popular Punjabi singer Sidhu Moose Wala.

As per another news outlet CTV news, court documents showed the three arrested are Karanpreet Singh, Kamalpreet Singh and Karan Brar.&nbsp;

They face one count of first-degree murder and a count of conspiracy to commit murder.

<h2>India-Canada diplomatic rift</h2>

The development comes against the backdrop of strained diplomatic ties between India and Canada after Ottawa accused New Delhi of having a role in the killing of Nijjar in June 2023.&nbsp;

However, India has strongly rejected the allegations, calling them "baseless" and "absurd".

Cameron on Thursday&nbsp;pledged over 3 billion pounds ($3.7 billion) of annual military aid for Ukraine, stating that the UK had no objection if Kyiv wanted to use British weapons against its targets in Russia.

"Ukraine has that right. Just as Russia is striking inside Ukraine, you can quite understand why Ukraine feels the need to make sure it's defending itself," Cameron told news agency Reuters during a visit to Kyiv.

<h2>Centre responds on removal of Modi's photo</h2>

Officials from the central health ministry, while speaking to The Print, said the photograph was removed in the wake of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) amid the ongoing Lok Sabha elections in the country.&nbsp;

This was not the first time that Modi's photo was removed from vaccination certificates.

In 2022, his photo was removed from vaccination certificates in five states- Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Manipur, and Goa at the instructions of the election commission ahead of the assembly polls in these states.&nbsp;

She further said that the leaders of the Grand Alliance were making attempts to spread awareness among the people, calling for an investigation of the COVID-19 vaccine. "The general public is being made aware of this by the leaders of the Mahagathbandhan. Corona vaccination is a subject of investigation and it should be investigated at every level and strict action should be taken against the culprits," she said. She further hit out at the BJP for showing up in the state of Bihar only during the polls. "BJP leaders only come to Bihar during the elections. They only remember Bihar at the time of the elections..," she said. "I just want to know when Bihar will be getting the special package. Union Territory of Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu saw a voter turnout of 65.23&nbsp;per cent, according to the latest data.

Leaders from several political parties have urged the citizens of India to exercise their right to vote and participate in the polls in large numbers.

Over 1300 candidates, including around 120 women, were in the fray in this phase of polls. A total of 17.24 crore voters were eligible to cast their votes in the third phase at around 1.85 lakh polling stations.

Earlier, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi cast his vote in Gujarat's Ahmedabad. He was welcomed by Union Home Minister Amit Shah when he arrived at the polling booth.

The prominent names in Tuesday's poll battle are Union Home Minister Amit Shah, former Madhya Pradesh chief ministers Shivraj Singh Chouhan and Digvijaya Singh, Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya, Samajwadi Party leader Dimple Yadav, and NCP (SP) leader Supriya Sule, among others.

Lok Sabha polls 3rd phase: Assam leads with maximum voter turnout, Maharashtra records lowest

Congress leader from Maharashtra Vijay Wadettiwar courted a major controversy over his remarks about the death of former state anti-terrorism squad (ATS) head Hemant Karkare during the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks.

In his "contentious" claim, Wadettiwar stated that Karkare succumbed to bullet injuries due to firing&nbsp;by a police officer affiliated to RSS and not by terrorist Ajmal Kasab.

He then went on to accuse the Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) Mumbai North Central candidate and former 26/11 prosecution lawyer Ujjwal Nikam of hiding the information, and called him an "anti-national".

"During 26/11, Hemant Karkare was not shot by Kasab. A police officer shot him on the instructions of RSS. Public Prosecutor Adv. Ujjwal Nikam knew this yet chose to hide this fact," he said.

The saffron party on Sunday (May 5) wrote to the Election Commission of India to take stern action against the Congress leader over allegedly hawking lies and defaming Nikam.

Mumbai BJP president Ashish Shekar rebuffed Wadettiwar's claims as "false and not based on facts" and said that his statements were aimed at maligning Nikam's image by stirring emotions.

"We have written to the Election Commission of India seeking action against Wadettiwar who is a star campaigner (of Congress) and also against the Congress party for peddling lies," he added.

Shekar further said that Kasab was a terrorist and was sentenced to death after following a due process of law for claiming the lives of several innocent people.

Wadettiwar later released a clarification stating that his remarks about Karkare's death were based on a book titled "Who Killed Karkare" written by retired police officer SM Mushriff.

Nikam, in response, hit out at the opposition leader and said he "should desist from making such comments that can help the enemy nation."
