<p>At least 12 suspected criminals were killed on a highway near Hermosillo in the northern Mexican state of Sonora, a state official said Sunday, in what authorities called a foiled attempt to rescue the son of a cartel hitman.</p>

<p>Another seven escaped and some are probably wounded,&nbsp;Sonora's state attorney's office said in a statement. A spokesperson confirmed to Reuters that 12 had been killed.</p>

<p>Two security officials were hospitalised after the crossfire but are now in stable condition, the statement added.</p>

<p>The office said it suspected the group, armed with assault weapons, was attempting to rescue the son of Jesus Humberto Limon, a suspected hitman working for a faction of the Sinaloa Cartel led by the sons of Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman.</p>

<p>The suspected hitman's son, Carlos Humberto, had been detained minutes before for "crimes against health" in Camino del Seri, it said, without giving further details.</p>

<p>The attorney's office said government agents had been targeted on Saturday afternoon on a highway connecting the state capital Hermosillo with Bahia de Kino on the Pacific coast, but security forces managed to repel the attack.</p>

<p>Security forces recovered 21 assault weapons, including AR-15s and AK-47s, chargers, bulletproof vests, camouflage kit, six modern vans and a "considerable" quantity of ammunition.</p>

<p>The yatra led by Rahul Gandhi was traveling through Biswanth district to Nagaon in Assam when Congress leader Jairam Ramesh's car was attacked in in Sonitpur district allegedly by members of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).</p>

<p>Ramesh said, "We live in a democratic country. But here, even the local MP Gaurav Gogoi is being stopped. This is injustice."</p>

<p>Taking stock of the allegations, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Sarma instructed the Assam Director General of Police to register a case and probe the matter.</p>

<p>According to All India Congress Committee (AICC) communications coordinator Mahima Singh, the alleged attackers created an intimidating situation and attempted to put a BJP flag on Ramesh's vehicle.</p>

<p>Singh said, "The camera, badge, and other apparatus of a vlogger who has been covering the yatra were snatched. Members of the social media team of the party were also manhandled."</p>

The Cygnus cargo spacecraft, scheduled for launch on a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket from Cape Canaveral Space Force Station in late January, will carry out scientific investigations that include testing a 3D metal printer, semiconductor manufacturing, and thermal protection systems for Earth reentry.</p>

<p>Speaking over 3D metal printing in space, Rob Postema of European Space Agency (ESA) stated, “This investigation provides us with an initial understanding of how such a printer behaves in space.”</p>

<p>The study is aimed to uncover differences in printing in space compared to Earth and explore the range of shapes achievable. The insights gained could revolutionise long-duration space missions, enabling on-the-go creation of equipment parts, thereby reducing the need for extensive pre-planning and saving resources for future lunar and Martian exploration.</p>

<p>Airbus Defence and Space SAS, under contract with ESA, is spearheading this investigation, NASA said.&nbsp;</p>
