In what seems to be addition to airplane related incidents in recent days, a Korean Air airplane struck a stationary Cathay Pacific plane at an airport in Japan. The planes 'came into contact' with each other while taxiing at the airport. Both airlines have confirmed the incident.

The fresh incident took place at New Chitose Airport which serves Sapporo on the northern island of Hokkaido.

"Our aircraft, which was stationary at the time with no customers nor crew onboard, was struck by a Korean Air A330 which was taxiing past," said Cathay Pacific in a statement.

Korean Air also issued a statement.

"A Korean Air aircraft came into contact with a Cathay aircraft during pushback at New Chitose (Sapporo) Airport when the third-party ground handler vehicle slipped due to heavy snow. There were no injuries and the airline is cooperating with all relevant authorities," said the airline.

As per Japan's public broadcaster NHK, the operator of the airport received information about the incident around 5:30 PM (0830 GMT).

“The was a blow and a flash,” Fedyainova told reporters, as quoted by Reuters. “I grabbed the child - there were shards everywhere and smoke.” The local officials reported that another girl who was around 10 years old was also injured.&nbsp;

The Mayor of the Russian city Vadim Kstenin, said a state of emergency had been declared to deal with the impact of the attack. Voronezh is home to more than one million people and is around 250 kilometres away from the Ukrainian border.&nbsp;

The Russian city is also located near an air base which reportedly holds some of the country’s Sukhoi Su-34 bombers. Russian news outlet Shot reported on Telegram that at least 15 blasts were heard near the air base.&nbsp;

Thirty-one-year-old David Ingi Bustion, an architect whose family has lived in the fishing town of Iceland for over three years, said that the latest lava explosion has left the 3,800 residents of Grindavík in uncertainty over the town's ability to be habitable ever again.

“We don’t know what will happen now. It has thrown a question mark over people’s lives,” The Guardian quoted Bustion as saying. “A few houses have burned but the water pipes and electricity have been damaged so there is no heating and it’s been really cold.”

“Most of our family had moved back to Grindavík and were there when it happened. At 3 am Sunday morning they were woken up by sirens and had to flee. People have reacted differently, but one of my cousins was very startled. Most people didn’t know if it was going to affect the town and just had to get their stuff and leave,” The Guardian quoted Bustion as saying.

“From what we have been told it doesn’t seem like there will be any more direct destruction inside the town, but the problem is there is no water or heating,” he added.

Saudi Minister of Environment, Water, and Agriculture, Abdul Rahman bin Abdul Mohsen Al Fadhli confirmed the UN’s findings while acknowledging the cost of food wastage.&nbsp;

According to the report, wasting food costs the kingdom SR40 billion ($10.6 billion) every year. The rate of food wastage exceeds 33 per cent, said the Saudi minister, referring to the data from the study conducted by the National Programme to Reduce Food Loss and Waste.

The country’s General Food Security Authority (GFSA) following the report’s release in October last year initiated a comprehensive awareness campaign to highlight the importance of food security and encourage responsible consumption practices, reported Gulf News.&nbsp;

A study by the Saudi Grains Organisation (Sago) last year found that 4.06 million tonnes of food is wasted each year, with an average individual contribution of about 184 kg&nbsp;of food waste.

The nationwide study also found that vegetable waste alone exceeds 335,000 tonnes annually.&nbsp;

The nation of around 32.2 million people also wastes hundreds of thousands of tonnes of staple foods, including 917,000 tonnes of flour and bread and 557,000 tonnes of rice.&nbsp;

Fathalla has called for a collective effort to foster a culture of moderation and reduce waste in the country to combat the food waste crisis.&nbsp;

She also suggested a number of pragmatic measures including cooking food in quantities that meet a family’s needs, being mindful when buying food, and donating extra food.&nbsp;
