In a chilling incident, a pre-medical student allegedly stabbed his mother to death, who was an elementary school teacher, since she “got on his nerves", as reported by the police in Florida.

Emmanuel Espinoza, who is a 21-year-old student pursuing a medical at the University of Florida, was going to a family event when he asked his mother Elvia Espinoza if he could stay with her during the weekend, as reported by the Daily Mail.

However, the second-grade teacher, who was 46 years old, opened the door to welcome his son on Saturday (April 6) at around 2 pm local time, but her knife-wielding son stabbed her mercilessly.

“She lived in the forest, in a very nice house, south of Frostproof,” said Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd, in a recorded statement.&nbsp;

“He knocked on the front door, and when mom opened the front door, he began to stab her. She ran from him, she was talking to a family member on the phone, and … he stabbed her until she fell down and died," he said.

Ukraine on Sunday said that a Russian strike on the town of Gulyaipole in the southern Zaporizhzhia region claimed the lives of three people.

"Two men and a woman died under the rubble of their own private house, which was hit by a Russian shell," the head of the region, Ivan Fedorov, said on social media.

The officials, according to the news agency AFP, said that another civilian, who was a woman, was killed in the city of Kupiansk, in the northeastern Kharkiv region.

"A woman died under the rubble in an apartment on the fourth floor of a high-rise building," Ukraine's state emergency services said, adding that it was a residential building.

Authorities in Kharkiv said that Russia launched another attack on Sunday (Apr 6) which injured at least five civilians.

Meanwhile, Moscow said that Ukraine struck the dome above a shutdown reactor at the Russian-controlled Zaporizhzhia nuclear station on Sunday, said the plant's Russian-installed administration.

The plant had earlier also reported attacks by Ukrainian drones.

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) said that it had been informed by the Russian-run plant that a drone had exploded at the site and the information was "consistent" with IAEA observations.

IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi said both sides should refrain from actions which "jeopardise nuclear safety".

Known as Eclipse Island, the now-inhabited island was named by British explorer Captain Cook. He witnessed the solar eclipse of Aug. 5 in 1766 while conducting astronomical observations and thus named the place Eclipse Island. "If we get 30 to 40 people show up here just for the eclipse, I will be ecstatic," Michael Ward, the manager of Burgeo townhall told Reuters. The 8-foot (2.4 metres) tall beacon, built in the 1950s-60s by community members will be restored by the people of Burgeo, home to about 1,100 residents. The solar eclipse, the first of its kind since 1979 in Canada, is creating a carnival atmosphere and many have been making travel plans for months. In Niagara, local government has declared a state of emergency with a record more than a million people expected to converge along the majestic falls and the popular tourist destination. People will come together to sing songs, rebuild the beacon, and engage in traditional smudging rituals and drumming to honor indigenous culture and heritage. "We want everybody (the local residents) to be involved... It's going to be quite a show," Ward added. On April 8, the complete solar eclipse is expected to traverse Mexico, the United States, and Canada in the sky over North America, according to NASA.
